New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS! CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHAEL DIPIETRO FROM NEW YORK CITY FOR WINNING THE 5-CD SET FROM PUTUMAYO'S "DREAMLAND" SERIES. Read on to enter to win a 5-CD set from Putumayo’s Dreamland series. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day. With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep. In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling). You’ll find Acoustic Dreamland in most Whole Foods Market stores now. Do you like to fall asleep listening to music? What are your favorite relaxing tunes? Leave a comment below by March 8th for a chance to win a 5 CD collection from our Dreamland series.

My husband of 31 yrs, and I, have been having an increased dilemma of falling to sleep lately. His is for health-reasons, mine are self-induced mental-reasons. The state of the world bothers me, the currently world problems bother me, you name it, factory-farming bothers me, you name it bothers me. Between him/me, we are pretty tired everyday. We would LOVE the Acoustic Dreamland 5 CD set to give us our once-peaceful sleep back again!

I love my Putumayo Dreamland CD. I got it for my first daughter over four years ago, and now on baby #3, we still listen to it together before bedtime. I loved hearing traditional lullaby music from all over the world, especially songs in Spanish that reminded me of the traditional folk songs my father (from Mexico) would sing to us. The music is beautiful and so relaxing. I have to be careful not to listen to it while driving if I am too tired. Pick me!!

Due to extenuating circumstances, my pregnant (38 weeks) daughter; husband & 3 kids (twins, age 4 & singleton, age 21 months) had to move into our very tiny 3 bedroom house... We're a little squished & bedtime is kind of chaotic, to say the least!! We could sure use some soothing music. It'll come in handy for frayed nerves during her birthing process also... which will be here at home.

My favorite relaxing music is Sanskrit artists like Snataum Kaur. I love that the lyrics are typically in Sanskrit so I can't be distracted by lyrics that get me thinking. I also love the sound of the harmonium. It really relaxes me.

I have your Sing Along with Putumayo and Animal Playground CDs in my car. They are the most requested CDs by my two young grandsons. My husband even plays them on his computer because they are so catchy! Would love to hear the Dreamland CD to help lull the grandkids into a relaxed state of reverie as they fall asleep. Thank you for opening up the musical world of other cultures to our children and grandchildren. We are all related and your CDs are a wonderful example of the universal language of music.

I used to use Counting Crows to fall asleep by, but since discovering The National they are the go-to group. So relaxing, but without being boring or silly! They can even drown out the TV when I'm stuck on crowded family trips.

My little guy would love these CDs! He enjoys many genres of music, especially when you can hear each instrument. I think these CDs would be a wonderful way to wind down after a busy day - for both him and me!

I have other Putamayo cds that I love--Working in a Newborn ICU I would love to be able to make this music available to families who are under a great deal of stress--we could play them in a room where parents relax or where moms are pumping, to help relieve some stress at least for a few minutes.
