Wallaby Yogurt

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNER MARY FROM MADISON, WI. THANKS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS! We love our producers, suppliers and vendors and we think most of them have some pretty interesting stories behind their products too. We’ll be sharing some of our favorites here in an ongoing series. Read on for a chance to win a $50 gift card. Doug Beretta is a family man. He’s one of four generations in Beretta Family Organic Dairy, a supplier of organic milk for Wallaby Yogurt. The dairy is based on a ranch that was bought in 1948 by Beretta’s grandfather, where the pasture-raised cows graze today. According to Beretta, the advantages of pasture-raising their cows are many. “You’re able to utilize your own land for feed. Organic feed costs are starting to get very expensive so we’re able to use our land to produce as much of the feed as we can.” In addition to the nutritional value of feeding cows on the pasture, “being on grass instead of concrete is a lot easier on the feet and legs of cows,” says Beretta. Wallaby’s founders were looking for family farms and pasture-based dairies with this type of commitment to their cows and their milk, so partnering with Beretta Family Organics made perfect sense. What do you think about the changes that Beretta Family Organic Dairy made when they switched from conventional to organic processes? Watch the slideshow above and leave a comment with your answer by September 9th. One comment will be chosen at random to win a $50 gift card to our stores. Click here to check out Wallaby’s products or visit our stores to taste them for yourself. We carry their full line of organic yogurt as well as their outstanding sour cream!

I love Wallaby yogurt and kudo's to Beretta Family Organic Dairy for making the switch to pasture-raised cows.

Dare I say it, but those cows almost look like they are smiling! Organic farming is truly the best process for all living things involved and the happiness truly shines through all the way to the yogurt! I open the lid of a Wallaby yogurt to a great smell, appearance, texture, and taste each and every time!

Congrats, Wallaby, on working with small farmers like the Beretta family! The cows sound healthier and the yogurt has got to taste better!

It always brings a smile to my face when I hear that switching to organic not only made the cows happier but the people as well. They should be teaching classes to get more farmers and companies to do this! My hubby is hooked on Peach currently and our cats love to lick the rip off top when he opens one up. Can you please make a plain? I have to buy another brand when I use it in baking and cooking. Thanks!

Love any company that takes care of the animals and farms that are necessary for that company's success. Also, love seeing family farms being utilized because the big corporate farms are only about profit, it seems, no matter what. What the Beretta Family - along with Wallaby- is doing is better for all of us in the long run and wish more people would care so much.

I'm really happy to read about this connection back to and reminder of where my food comes from. Makes it taste better too! Thank you!

That is a great story. It only costs pennies more to eat fine products like Wallaby. When will the US catch up to the rest of the world and ban artificial growth hormones. I guess Monsanto's political lobby has mucho influence on the USDA.

Love it! Pride in workmanship and honor trump greed... always! Thanks for respecting that which nourishes us instead of abusing nature to pad your wallet.

Jennifer says …

Wallaby is our family's favorite yogurt, especially the plain drizzled with honey and topped with organic Colorado peaches. So glad the Beretta family (including the cows) experienced such a wonderful increase in their quality of life when they switched to organic processes.

I grew up in rural Wisconsin, right across from a corn field and down the road from a dairy farm. It brings a smile to my heart to know the small farmer is still important in a big way...helping to produce health-friendly products in a natural environment. Thanks to the Beretta family and Wallaby for what they have done!

I absolutely love to hear when a company switches to organic. It's so much better for everyone. I wish other companies would follow.

Going to grass-feeding as much as possible is always a good thing ..... for cows and humans. And putting humane concerns above maximum profits is almost reason enough to buy organic from Wallaby.

Nina says …

Yes! I am so happy to see that companies are coming around to the idea of working with real farmers who live on their land running family businesses! As Doug quoted the company, organic family-oriented farming may not be the way to make as much money as possible, but it is certainly the best way to promote health, well-being, and responsible stewardship of the Earth while making a living. Bravo.

Happy cows means happy farmers and happy consumers. It is a way to promote the well being for all living things.

I'm thrilled that they've chosen to make this commitment towards the environment, the cows and the people who eat their delicious yogurt, of which I am happy to be one. They have a really tasty product!

I work at Whole Foods Market, and I learned about the quality standards that Wallaby takes in making their yogurt from a customer one time. I love it when I can learn from people I interact with while I ring up the rest of their groceries. It's all about spreading the the wealth of knowledge.

I like that Beretta Family Organic Dairy cares as much about the means and side effects as the end product all of which gain by adhering their core principles.

Brian Stephenson says …

Never tried Wallaby but it is exactly the type of company that I would want to support with my dollars. I plan on giving them a try.

I hadn't heard of Wallaby yogurt until I saw it on a Whole Foods e-mail I received. I love that they have changed fron conventional to organic and take care of the animals with food from the land. My family only purchases organic yogurt and we will definitely be trying this brand. Keep up your great ethnics.

Suzette says …

I love seeing cows graze on the land the way nature intended. Kudos to Wallaby for going back to the basics and doing what's best for their consumers instead of what's best for their profit margin!!

Josie says …

I absolutely love Wallaby Yogurt- it's my favorite! Best-tasting, smoothest, creamiest organic yogurt ever! Thanks to the company's founders for being a great steward with your resources. I will continue to purchase and support this brand.

Rita Sakitt says …

They look like nice folks - and I would have liked to hear them explain why organic food makes the cows produce more milk.

Tracy Smith says …

Awesome to know that a company still cares about quality over quantity. Love the fact that they are using pasture-fed cattle as their provider for organic milk. Thank you Wallaby.

I'm delighted to see these changes and I love Wallaby Yogurt! There's was the first supercreamy yogurt I found that *didn't* use high-fructose corn syrup! Yeah Wallaby!

I absolutely love it. I have always enjoyed Wallaby yoghurts, but now I know that there is much more than a good taste and a pretty package involved!

Becky says …

Thank you so much for going organic. I tell people that Wallaby yogurt is delicious and creamy. Incidentally, my dad grew up on a farm in Vermont.

We love your yogurt. Thanks for going organic.

Beth says …

my boys eat the Wallaby vanilla yogurt EVERY morning for breakfast. One time I bought a different brand because it was on sale and they said "where is our Wallaby yogurt? it tastes better!"

LindsayE says …

I've been a fan of Wallaby for years, but one of the main reasons is you know where the ingredients are coming from. I have multiple food allergies, so I need to be able to trust the company and know that THEY know their suppliers and trust that they aren't putting any weird stuff in their milk or flavourings. Btw, best maple yoghurt EVER!!

drew janner says …

I think the changes that the Beretta Dairy made when they switched from conventional to organic makes the product taste even better!

Barb says …

Wallaby's mango lime nonfat yogurt is so good that I make a monthly drive 2 hours round trip to buy as many containers as I can find in the dairy case at the nearest Whole Foods. SO worth it. Wallaby's business ethic is exactly the kind of company I feel great about buying from. I only wish I could buy it closer to home to reduce my carbon footprint...though I do drive a hybrid. Small steps, right?

Jennifer Clark says …

The Beretta family are providing a wonderful organic yogurt. I feel comfortable purchasing Beretta yogurt and sourcream.

stuart says …

Sounds healthier and happier for everyone, cows included.

kristen says …

Going organic seems like a totally good thing for the beretta cows :) Their stress levels seem to have dissipated due to his reporting of their production levels compared with the feeding methods. Happy cows.

Christine says …

I've been a fan of Wallaby yogurt for years. So glad to have found a delicious yogurt without unnecessary ingredients. It was great to hear Doug Beretta say the cows became more "efficient" after changing over to organic. And the cows looked so healthy and happy. (If cows can actually look happy!)

patty says …

I love wallaby yogurt it taste great but it's even more amazing to make a product that is kind to the earth. Thank you for making such a wonderful product and including organic farmers. Wish more companies would do the same. Even the cows are happy.....and if the cows are happy, then i'm happy too. =)
