Wallaby Yogurt

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNER MARY FROM MADISON, WI. THANKS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS! We love our producers, suppliers and vendors and we think most of them have some pretty interesting stories behind their products too. We’ll be sharing some of our favorites here in an ongoing series. Read on for a chance to win a $50 gift card. Doug Beretta is a family man. He’s one of four generations in Beretta Family Organic Dairy, a supplier of organic milk for Wallaby Yogurt. The dairy is based on a ranch that was bought in 1948 by Beretta’s grandfather, where the pasture-raised cows graze today. According to Beretta, the advantages of pasture-raising their cows are many. “You’re able to utilize your own land for feed. Organic feed costs are starting to get very expensive so we’re able to use our land to produce as much of the feed as we can.” In addition to the nutritional value of feeding cows on the pasture, “being on grass instead of concrete is a lot easier on the feet and legs of cows,” says Beretta. Wallaby’s founders were looking for family farms and pasture-based dairies with this type of commitment to their cows and their milk, so partnering with Beretta Family Organics made perfect sense. What do you think about the changes that Beretta Family Organic Dairy made when they switched from conventional to organic processes? Watch the slideshow above and leave a comment with your answer by September 9th. One comment will be chosen at random to win a $50 gift card to our stores. Click here to check out Wallaby’s products or visit our stores to taste them for yourself. We carry their full line of organic yogurt as well as their outstanding sour cream!

I think its great that they made a switch it made the cows more healthy since instead of having feeds that had artificial stuff in it to produce more milk. The Wallaby company now uses natural feed from the lands of the farms they get milk from and in turn the cows are producing what they are suppose to naturally. Also being a consumer I feel great knowing that a company is family based and organic since they take the time to monitor the quality of their product and it pays off since the yogurts are delicious!

Love the slideshow! We have Wallaby every day. My daughters like to take a variety of fruit flavors to school for lunch, and I have plain mixed with sliced banana and raw oats for breakfast. I know it will give us the energy and calcium we need!

I confess it seems strange as in Australia ALL dairy cows are on pasture and organic means the pasture is organic. Why is the company called Wallaby?? Cheers

I do see Wallaby yogurt when I am shopping at WFM. Now that I have seen this video I am excited to try and will purchase Wallaby yogurt for my family and I. This video shows that you not only care what you put into your body by what you feed your cows but ours as well. With so many yogurts out on the market its hard to choose a new yogurt. On my shopping trip today,Wallaby yogurt will be my choice. Thank you for sharing this video!

I love Wallaby yogurt and after a brief infatuation with a certain Greek yogurt( but it was moldy 4 times well within the time deadline), I am returning to Wallaby. I am so glad to hear about the values behind these family farms because I grew up in the mid-west USA and want small farms to suceed. I'm also tired of the lack of values so prevelant in our society and that are worsening due to the economy. However, there have been some changes in Wallaby that I don't support. Most recently, the berries and cream has different less flavorbul fruit and the original dark chocolate was really dark but its milk chocolate now and not as good. How about both chocolate flavors? Other than that hats off to the Black Cherry, please don't change it!

I think it's awesome that it sounds like not only is their yogurt healthier, but the cows are probably healthier (and happier) as well. :) Moo!

My whole family loves wallaby yogurt..It's the best raspberry yogort I have ever had and my psrtner is hooked on the vanilla. Great job producing a fantastic organic product!

Linda says …

Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and hope things will turn out well - I think taking the leap to organic will yield Wallaby happier, healthier consumers who will pass the word along to their friends.

Sam says …

love this yogurt

Nina says …

This makes me happy. It's wonderful to see that there are still farmers fighting to stay organic and staying true to themselves and their food.

Vevey Libert says …

I love Wallaby yogurt. Now I love it even more after watching this video. I think you take very good care of the cows. It is nice to see them outside grazing on grass and not indoors all the time eating corn and being pumped with hormones and antibiotics. It is also nice to hear that the dairy farm is not just out to make as much money as possible, and they want to treat animals and people right.

Lina Marston says …

They are on the fourth generation. As this continues the benefits multiply. I will support this product and this family business.

Katie Soule says …

I appreciate their changes so much! It makes me happy to read about a family that cares about both the health of their cows and the quality of the milk they produce. I wish more farmers would commit to this kind of organic farming.

Barbara says …

If only everyone would see that organic is the best for humans and animals...this would be a much healthier country.

Taylor says …

Sunshine on happy cows, content family businesses...this is what I miss about the US...and Vanilla Bean Wallaby yogurt, of course!

Kerri Daniels says …

I love your yogurt, however, i only buy it when it's on sale. any ideas?

Charity says …

Nancy says …

I love these stories! People need to pay more attention to what they eat. Listening to stories about farmers and companies that are more interested in a better quality product with better benefits for all involved gets consumers interested. And hey, I'm a vegetarian, so happy cows make me happy. :D

I think your thoughtfulness in making a switch from Conventional to Organic will not only produce a more natural flow of milk from healthy cows but changes the enviornment of our planet. Our people and our planet deserves to have what is most natuarl to their systems. It makes the most sense to give sustainable, whole, organic and earth producing foods to all living beings/creatures.
