My daughter and I were on a mission last summer to find the perfect refreshment for the summer swelter. One of our favorites was honeydew slushies. We cooked down raw sugar, water, and mint leaves until it was a syrup. Strain the mint leaves. Added frozen chunks of honeydew, a some amount of lemon juice, water and the syrup to the blender and Voila'! Delicious summer sipper!

I absolutely love to make summer tea. Usually start with an herbal tea, which doesn't necessarily have to be berry flavored (can be mint, yerba mate, whatever). I add organic ginger ale and a bit of juice - either cranberry or grape work well. Yummy!

Lemonade reminds me of my childhood with the sun beating down on my friends and I as we sold it on the corner in Queens. I introduce this time honored traditions with my boys. I loved the look on their face with each glass they sold and drank. Lemonade goes with summer like sand, the smell of fresh cut grass and the sun warming your face.
