I love cherries but they can be a bit pricey. I like to put them in Athenos mini phyllo shells and bake them for about 10 minutes. They make delicious mini cherry tarts.

So many ways I love cherries! Fresh, in salads, in cookies and breakfast bars, with ice cream... but I do oh so especially loved cooked, warm, gooey cherry cobbler or pie. So good!!

I love to make a cherry clafouti - a traditional French recipe that should be made with fresh pitted cherries. I use a fun utensil to pit the cherries. The clafouti is like a simple flan, with fresh cherries and cardomon. Though I am sure you can find other variations on the traditional recipe. I also love to say the name of this recipe - clafouti!

My favorite summer cherry memories have been in Europe! In 2009, I stayed with an old Greek woman in Thessaloniki, Greece (picture "My Big Fat Greek Wedding") and ate cherries all summer long fresh from the cherry trees in her front yard! Last month, I stayed at my friend's German cottage and was offered a bowl of fresh cherries as soon as I arrived. One of the cherries had a worm crawling on it, so I decided to examine the others! After cutting open several, I discovered that all the German cherries had a worm living in them! My German friend said, "gehen fragen Sie den Nachbarn" -- "Go ask the neighbor!" -- They were from the neighbor's cherry tree!

Cherries are especially good dried. We have a dehydrator and it works a treat on all fruits. Their sweetness intensifies and they can be added to salads, chicken salad, desserts and just plain old snacking on their own for a delicious treat!

where do I start...love cherries in all kinds of recipes and salads...really enjoy cherry pie...homemade of course :) but one of my favorites, especially in the winter is a duck with cherry sauce that cooks all day and makes the house smell so good when the winter time is here. The epitome of comfort food, and living on Long Island where Peking ducks are raised what could be better.
