Win a Year's Supply of Greener Cleaners

Congratulations to our winner Katherine R., from Illinois! Thanks to everyone who entered! Happy Earth Month from Whole Foods Market! While Earth Day is officially on April 22nd, we’re celebrating throughout the month of April ‘cause we think our planet is worth celebrating . . . and saving. Thankfully, small eco-friendly steps add up, especially when we’re all in it together.

In celebration of Earth Month one lucky reader will win a year’s supply of Eco-Scale™ rated cleaning supplies from Better Life. Read on to find out how to enter.

What can you do? It doesn’t have to be overwhelming and it doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing, just take a small step every day. From using reusable shopping bags, water bottles and coffee mugs when you’re on-the-go, to recycling, composting and using cleaners with eco-conscious ingredients when you’re at home, your green opportunities are endless.

So let’s each make an Earth Day resolution! No, we don’t need to break out the guitars and sing (though I’m always game) but we can start by sharing our green resolutions.

Here’s my resolution: Plant a container garden so my daughter can witness firsthand where food comes from and appreciate the incredible taste of produce moments after it’s picked.

What’s Whole Foods Market doing? Like so many of our passionate customers, we too certainly believe in doing our part — from Team Members’ grassroots Green Mission initiatives to in-store “green” efforts to developing company-wide standards. Standards like our Eco-Scale™ Rating System – an industry-first set of tiered standards for household cleaners. Eco-Scale rated products have their ingredients listed on the label (did you know that’s not common practice for household cleaners?).

They’re also third-party verified to meet Whole Food Market's Eco-Scale ingredient standards, which were crafted after consideration of environmental impact, safety, efficacy, source, labeling and animal testing. From this product evaluation, they get a red, orange, yellow or green rating on our Eco-Scale. If it’s rated red then we won’t sell it in our stores.

Not only does this rating system allow our shoppers to make informed choices but it also encourages producers to create better products.

Now it's your turn: Share one simple change you’re planning to make for Earth Day. Everyone who enters a comment on this post between now and April 22nd (Earth Day) will be entered to win a year’s supply of Eco-Scale rated cleaners from Better Life.

Valued at $350, the year’s supply of cleaning products includes: what-EVER! all-purpose cleaners; I Can See Clearly, Wow! window cleaners; Even The Kitchen Sink cleansing scrubbers; Simply Floored! ready-to-use floor cleaners; Oak-Y-Dokey wood cleaners and polish; Dish It Out liquid dish soaps; Automatic Magic dishwasher gels; No Regrets liquid hand soaps in Citrus Mint; Go Forth and Conquer hand soaps in Clary Sage & Citrus and a six-compartment cleaning caddy.

And even if you don’t win the prize, your green resolution efforts will be rewarded with a cleaner, greener, healthier planet for many Earth Days to come.

What simple change can you make? Add your comment by April 22nd for a chance to win!

I am moving shortly and in my new space intend to begin composting and start my own herb & veggie garden. I am SO excited for this change!!!

Composting! Not just at home. I carry around a re-useable coffee mug that I only really use in the morning. I'm going to use it to collect my compostables when I'm away from home so a little more waste can be diverted from landfills. In the same vain, I'll also be saying NO extras -- e.g., utensils, napkins, packaging, etc.

I will buy products using less packaging such as the toilet paper rolls without the cardboard inserts. Each tiny step can make a big difference.

I go to the gym everyday and always bring my reusable water bottle. Unfortunately, my gym buddies are still bringing their disposable plastic water bottles. So for Earth day, I'm going to give them each a reusable water bottle. It's good to make changes for yourself but it's also great to help others join the effort to take care of our planet--it takes a village!

I drink a lot of water throughout the day, which means I use a lot of water glasses. I mainly use so many because I put it down and then forget which one is mine. So, I'm going to start using a colored stainless steel water bottle. I'll be able to cut down on dishes to wash and I won't forget which one is mine.

I just read a great article about decomposing packaging in beauty products. One product it showcased was for a lip balm with a package made of recycled paper that quickly and naturally decomposes after you use it. I love it! Definitely going to start looking for products like this.

I'm making a concentrated effort to stop buy things that I don't need. As a part of this goal, I'm doing some major spring cleaning and getting rid of things that I no longer use or want. This includes finding new homes for household items (like dishes, vases, decorative items, etc.), recycling old electronics, and donating rarely worn work clothes and shoes. I've tackled one closet already and will be working on another one this weekend!

We try hard to incorporate "living green" into our everyday. The newest thing we are getting on board with is composting. It will be so great to put those scraps to use in the garden!

My husband and I now eat a completely plant-based diet and we are planning raised beds for our garden this summer so we can grow some of our own organic vegetables at home. We have also converted to using more green house cleaners and would love some new ones as they can be expensive :)

I will finally fix my hybrid bike and commit to doing all my local shopping with it instead of driving my car!

I plan to continue with recycling, composting, walking as much as possible, and keeping a bucket in the bathroom to catch the water used warming up the shower. That water goes to the house plants and the garden.
