Since 1997, Avalon International Breads has proudly produced fresh, artisan breads and rustic pastries through old-world practices, using organic grains and flours. Run by Ann Perault, Avalon set up a retail space in the Midtown/ Cass Corridor neighborhood of Detroit and was a large contributor to the revival of the inner-city community. A mission driven company, Avalon is a “right livelihood business” which means that they have three bottom lines that inform every aspect of the business: Earth, Community and the Employees. Avalon now employees a diverse staff, where 45 people from myriad backgrounds, races, skills and resources work 'round the clock in a mere 2,000 square feet, creating the best products possible with dedication, humor and warmth. 

They used the Local Producer Loan to purchase equipment for a new full scale bake house, which helped them expand their wholesale operation.
