Packaging 2.0Visit Website
Located in Providence, Rhode Island (our first LPLP Recipient in the great state of RI!), Packaging 2.0 sells and markets thermoformed plastic packaging made from post-consumer recycled materials. Their packaging can currently be found in the salad bars of the NA, NE and SOPAC regions and (soon!) in the North Atlantic Meat department!
Founded and owned by Michael Brown, Packaging 2.0 has recently commercialized a line of food containers made from 100% post-consumer plastic. The Northeast and North Atlantic regions launched Packaging 2.0’s line of “Number 1 Package” deli containers for prepared foods salad bars. They are also used in pre-pack applications, as well as in products from the NA/NE Commissary. The containers are made from 100% recycled PET-clear or green soda bottles- and are 100% recyclable in many areas of the country. The recycled content and package markings have been subjected to an independent assessment and certified to comply with FTC green guidelines.
Packaging 2.0 will use the funds from the loan to purchase molds to start the production of a new line of 100% recycled Meat trays. An exciting step for our meat teams since this has the potential to significantly reduce the amount of Styrofoam meat trays and soaker pads currently used. A mission-driven company, Packaging 2.0 is Certified B Corp (the first in Rhode Island). Packaging 2.0 seeks to bridge the worlds of plastics packaging design, manufacturing, reuse, recycling, and sustainability.
