Baked Meatball Subs with Fresh Mozzarella

Serves 4

Loaded with meatballs and topped with fresh mozzarella and basil, these family-friendly subs are ready in 30 minutes, start to finish! 

  • 2/3 pound prepared meatballs (about 4), any variety, baked* and quartered
  • 4 whole wheat hot dog buns, split but still connected on one side
  • 1 cup prepared marinara sauce
  • 1 (8-ounce) fresh mozzarella ball, sliced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place opened buns on the prepared baking sheet and arrange baked meatballs on top. Spoon sauce over meatballs, arrange mozzarella on top and bake until hot throughout, about 10 minutes. Garnish with basil and serve.

*To bake meatballs, arrange on a parchment-paper-lined baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked throughout.
