Black Licorice Velvet
Serves 1
Time 5 min
A Black Velvet, traditionally made with Guinness and Champagne, was first created in London in 1861 to mourn the death of Prince Albert. Adding a drizzle of homemade Black Licorice Syrup (and richly flavored oatmeal or chocolate stout) creates a molasses-scented elixir that’s anything but somber. These potent drinks make a perfect kickoff and accompaniment to a hearty English- or Irish-inspired brunch (pass the bangers and mash) or a Sunday roast.
Special Diets:
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup stout, preferably oatmeal or chocolate, chilled
- 1 teaspoon Black Licorice Syrup, chilled
- 1/4 cup dry sparkling wine, chilled
- Black licorice strip for garnish (optional)
Method
Combine stout and syrup in a Champagne flute and gently stir.
Top with sparkling wine and garnish with licorice strip, if desired.
