Anti-Aging Skin Care: Handy How-Tos and a Great Giveaway

The giveaway is now closed. Thank you to everyone who entered! Congratulations to our winner, Brittany C. from Texas!

It’s finally beginning to feel like fall in my hometown of Austin, Texas. But while I’m looking forward to sweater weather, my skin is wearing the lingering effects of summer.

I’ll be honest; I spent a lot of time in the sun this year. I love to swim, just like I did when I was a kid, but my skin isn’t getting any younger. Despite every effort to protect myself from harmful rays, I’m starting the fall season with a few more fine lines and brown spots.

I love autumn colors, but this is not what I had in mind.

To the rescue: Whole Foods Market’s latest series of skin care videos. In the first one, esthetician Jennifer Gallegos explains the basics of an anti-aging skincare regimen: antioxidants and exfoliation to remove dead, dry and damaged cells.

Does the change of seasons (and the cranking up of indoor heating) leave your skin a little cranky? Check out our other how-to videos to learn why breakouts occur and how botanical actives (a fancy term for therapeutic levels of plant ingredients) can help keep skin balanced, unclog pores and support healthy inflammatory response.

If you’re ready to go beyond your regular routine, watch our video tutorial for an at-home facial. It features raw, organic honey and MyChelle Apple Brightening Peel, which is a fun way to put seasonal ingredients to work for your skin!

Looking for more ways to revamp your daily regimen? Make sure to watch our new skincare videos, and tell us why your skin needs a little extra TLC. Leave a comment below by Wednesday, October 24 and one lucky commenter will win an Earth Science Active Age Defense skin care kit featuring Earth Science Whipped Cream Cleanser, Toning Elixir, Cellagen, i-Cream, Hydrating Day Cream and Nighttime Recovery Cream.

Let go of last season and celebrate beautiful skin!

The fine print: No purchase necessary. Promotion ends October 24, 2012, 11:59 PM CDT. Must be a legal resident of the US or Canada (except in Quebec, where it is void) age 18 or older to participate. Taxes on prize, if applicable, are the responsibility of the winner. Employees of Whole Foods Market, Inc., are not eligible. Void where prohibited.

With a busy 10 year old and an even busier 2 year old at home, my skincare has taken backseat. The Earth Science skin care kit sounds like just what I need to restore my 40 year old skin and give a youthful glow!!!

This is fantastic - Love your skin care products! My skin definitely needs a little extra TLC in the winter because it is very dry and prone to showing extra fine lines and creases, especially now that I am getting closer to xx years old. I do my best to protect it from UV radiation and other environmental damage, but would love to do more....Thanks again for the giveaway! :)

I had the good fortune to be in the Caribbean this year, and I did use a high SPF sunscreen. Unfortuantely, I didn't reapply it in a timely fashion while enjoying the ocean.

My face gets dry and flaky during the winter and I'm trying my best to moisturize to help prevent as many wrinkles as I can. I'd love to try this skincare line!

I appreciate the skin care videos you're offering. I've watched just a few and have learned quite a bit. I'm a very fair skined redhead so sun damage, freckles and dark spots are an issue. And with winter on the way; I live in Chicago so they can be harsh, I need a skin care regime that pampers my skin and keeps it as soft and moisturized as possible. Keep the skin care videos coming - I love them!

Fall is always a difficult season for my skin. After all of summer's activities, my skin feels dry, worn, blotchy and dull. Then the heat goes on and it just gets drier. I am grateful for a regimen that will address these issues. At 55, I recognize the importance of a healthy diet and a solid skin care routine. Every action shows up on my skin. And I plan to keep my skin at its best!!

I love the idea of natural skin-care products. The ingredient list on my current moisturizer is scary. It's time to switch!

Turning 36 years old hit me harder than a mac truck. I've had a lot of big changes this year, a move, moving in with my fiance, and planning a wedding (the big day is less than a month away! EEK!). I need some pampering and would love to try some new skin care products. The same ones I used when I was younger, no longer seem to be having the desired affects and some TLC would be greatly appreciated!

I love all natural skin care products, especially DIY. I used a really nice line with salt scrub and moisturizer and it was amazing, like my whole body just drank up all the nutrients. Then I was broke and went out and grabbed a scrub I used as a teen, and it was HORRIBLE! My whole face broke out and I had rashes in the creases by my nose and mouth (sorry TMI) and I realized just how harsh these store brand products arw. They're just loaded with chemicals! Do yourself a favor and splurge on the good stuff or try to make your own. It will be worth it in the end! Thanks WF :)

@FAITHBABY092 - Thanks for your question! If you visit one of our links above (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/department/whole-body/beauty-skin-care) you will find an additional video for a daily regimen for acne prone skin. If these options have been tried, I would encourage you to reach out to your health care provider or a dermatologist for more specific tips.

This blog is just in time! I've been noticing that even though it's still pretty warm in South Texas, that my skin is starting to feel a little dry and tight. I definitely notice if I forget to put on lotion after I get out of the shower. I've started walking/jogging two miles every day with my new foster dog and I slather on the sunscreen. My poor skin!

I love autumn and winter and the cooler weather they bring, but my face tends to get ruddy at this time of year. Some nice natural products to pamper myself with would make enjoying this time of year much easier!

I love Earth Science! They are one of my favorite brands. This blog post is just in time because I have definitely noticed my skin being a little tight and dry some days (despite the fact that it's still mostly warm and humid in South Texas). I have been spending more time outdoors now that I walk & jog with my foster dog every day.

It's great to read skincare tips you can trust. While I am only 22, I still feel the changes in weather putting pressure on my skin. I always buy new products because I haven't found one that really suits me. My skin can be oily one day and then dry the next and I just can't figure out which cleansers, lotions, etc. to use. I enjoy taking care of my skin and think that it is something you should start doing at a young age.

I'm excited to do a full body exfoliation this fall. I was in the sun a lot more than usual this year, and I really need to get rid of excess dry skin!

Kim Menaster says …

I swim everyday which is great for my overall wellness, but BAD for my skin (sun + chlorine). Could definitely use some help from Earth Science!

As I am reaching the wonderful age of 40, I realize that I need to use skin care products and since going all natural I would love to start right here!

My skin is always in need of a little extra TLC. I've suffered with ezcema for many years, several without knowing what was truly happening with my skin. Fortunately, it has improved with my increased knowledge & extra care, but as the post indicates, with the changes of temperature, various activities, & holiday stresses, my skin is also put to the challenge once again. I love having the information from these blog posts & videos & greatly appreciate the helpful tips. I've also found that the closer to nature the product, the better the response of my skin. MyChelle is wonderful, DE is too! I'd love the opportunity to try & become more familiar with these other brands.
