Whole Kids Foundation is dedicated to helping kids eat better — and enjoy it! Visit their website for information on how they support schools and inspire families to improve children’s nutrition and wellness.

Oh, how I miss that feeling on the last day of school before summer break — anything seemed possible. The reality is that parents have an enormous amount of time to fill with their kiddos. Don’t worry, Whole Kids Foundation has your back with four guided purposeful activities for June.

Bee Colony

Share the Buzz about Pollinators with ScrapKins

Did you know that one out of every three bites of food is pollinated by bees and other pollinators? June is pollinator awareness month, and we’ve got two hands-on activities that will provide the perfect opportunity to talk about these important insects. The activities include upcycling goods from the recycling bin and “Think About It” questions.

To Market, To MarketGo “To Market” with Kids Book Club

June’s recommended reading is Nikki McClure’s  “To Market, to Market,” a book rich with information about food sourcing. It offers a great opportunity for a family outing to the farmers’ market, where your child will likely pepper with you great questions. Reading tips from our partner Jumpstart can help guide the conversation and then the Together Time Activity will have you cooking up yum in no time!

Better BitesFind Nutrition Over the Rainbow with Better Bites

Better Bites is a monthly tool that suggests one small change families can make to improve their nutritional impact. This summer we’re challenging families to eat a rainbow of delicious veggies and fruit, which supplies our bodies with a full range of vitamins and nutrients. Make this activity a part of your family meal planning and invite your child to brainstorm how they can add a little blue or purple to their diets with whole foods.

How are you keeping your child busy this month? Share your ideas in the comments section below.
