Earth Balance Almond Butter

By Elizabeth Smith, August 28, 2012  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Elizabeth Smith

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who entered! Congratulations to our winner Robyn W. from Wisconsin! At Whole Foods Market®, we love sharing good food and drink. Whether it’s a peak-of-the-season berry, a team member creation from our bakery, sausages made in house or a new grocery discovery, we love celebrating great flavors and products. But we don’t just want to tell you about it; we want you to enjoy it too. So, we’re doing a series of summer giveaways through mid-August.

From sandwiches to smoothies to cookies, mighty almond butter can do everything peanut butter can; yet, not everyone has tried it. (The reason why is a hard nut to crack!) So, we’re giving away a case of versatile almond butter for summer’s last hurrahs and after-school snack preparations. Read on to find out how to enter to win.

Based near Boulder, Colorado, Earth Balance produces a line of delicious buttery spreads, shortenings, nut butters, soymilk, soy nog, coconut spread and alternative mayo. Besides being flavorsome, we like their products because they’re all plant-based, vegan and made without artificial ingredients and hydrogenated oils. Bonus: because they are made without gluten, lactose and eggs, Earth Balance products offer a delectable alternative for shoppers with food sensitivities. We also appreciate that the company strongly supports the Non-GMO Project, and all their products are made without genetically modified ingredients.

But let’s talk almond butter. Earth Balance’s Creamy Natural Almond Butter tastes…well, it tastes like almonds because that’s what they start with. You get all the benefits of fresh-ground almonds, expeller-pressed oils and ALA Omega-3-rich flaxseed before they round it all out with a touch of naturally sweet agave.

Are you already part of the almond butter following or do you want to join the club? Either way, there are lots of scrumptious recipes that feature this lesser-known nut butter from breakfast to dinner. Here are a few favorites:

What’s the first thing you’d make if you won some almond butter? Tell us in the comments below by Sunday, September 9 and we’ll pick a winner at random to receive a case of Earth Balance Creamy Almond Butter.

The fine print: No purchase necessary. Promotion ends Sunday, September 9, 2012, 11:59 PM CDT. Must be a legal resident of the US or Canada (except in Quebec, where it is void) age 18 or older to participate. Taxes on prize, if applicable, are the responsibility of the winner. Employees of Whole Foods Market, Inc., are not eligible. Void where prohibited.

If I had a case of Earth Balance Almond Butter, I would stash a few for myself later and try to turn on some peanut butter lovers into almond butter lovers. I would use it in my protein bar recipe and give some away. I also love this sturff smeared on a crisp apple. Any fruit, hard cheese or cracker is good too. Hope i win.

I'd love to substitute almond butter in recipes that use peanut butter, including Thai Peanut sauce. Family members are allergic to Peanut Butter. I think Almond Butter is a wonderful substitute.

My favorite quick breakfast is old fashioned oatmeal with almond butter, vanilla and cinnamon stirred in after cooking. Add a touch of honey, some chopped apple, cranberries or raisins- whatever is your favorite. Two minutes in the microwave, not much longer on the stove. Very nice, very nutritious and sticks to the ribs all morning. Yum

I try to eat very clean and am a vegetarian ("wanna-be vegan"). I subsist mainly on fruits and veggies, and dairy, beans, and nuts/nut butters for protein. I just recently discovered the above product (w/flax!) and practically fell in love (sorry peanut butter!). I can't say I'd create anything fabulous w/it as I'm the antithesis of Betty Crocker in the kitchen (but am actually trying to learn more). I would, however, probably eat it on everything as it is so incredibly yummy! Baby carrots, melt over steamed broccoli, the standard apples and bananas, Mary's Sticks and Twigs pretzles, in my oh-so-plain Greek yogurt, and most likely, more often, straight out of the jar. I actually minimize what I eat so I can maximize my nut butter intake! And, then I exercise like crazy and preach purity!! I recently discovered a powdered peanut butter product on-line that I can't seem to get enough of (can you I.V. pb?) but sincerely prefer the "real deal", and the Nat. Bal. would definitely be my first choice!! What a fabulous competition; can't wait to see what Martha Stewart and her friends are doing. Thanks, Whole Foods!!!!!

I'm a baker, so I'm sure I'd put some in brownies instead of my usual peanut butter. And make a twist on the kid's favorite sandwich, Almond Butter and Bacon!
