Late July Organic Snacks

By Elizabeth Smith, August 14, 2012  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Elizabeth Smith

At Whole Foods Market®, we love sharing good food and drink. Whether it’s a peak-of-the-season berry, a team member creation from our bakery, sausages made in house or a new grocery discovery, we love celebrating great flavors and products. But we don’t just want to tell you about it; we want you to enjoy it too. So, we’re doing a series of summer giveaways through mid-August. Read on to find out how to enter to win.

It might be mid-August, but it’s still time for Late July! Late July Organic Snacks is on a mission to educate people about organics through their taste buds. As a family owned and operated company, they care deeply about the integrity of their products – which all proudly wear the USDA organic seal! This means they meet USDA National Organic Standards requiring that the crops are grown without the use of persistent pesticides. Those standards also don't allow irradiation, genetically modified ingredients (GMOs) and synthetic preservatives.

If you’ve ever searched for snacks for the family that meet your standards, then you’ll understand what Late July Organic Snacks founder Nicole Bernard Dawes went through years ago when her kids were old enough to start snacking. That’s when she knew she had to take matters into her own hands and recreate classic crackers and cookies with organic ingredients and without hydrogenated oils or artificial additives.

With “family” at the forefront, Late July Organic Snacks was started to create a better, more responsible food system for her children and future generations. With help from her father, the founder of Cape Cod Potato Chips, Nicole worked to create delicious snacks without compromising on the quality of ingredients — snacks that lived up to her family’s standards and likely yours too!

Learn more about Late July Organic Snacks, Nicole and her family and their passion for great snack foods in this slideshow.

If you have problems viewing the slideshow, you can watch it on YouTube.

Family remains the primary focus at Late July Organic Snacks, and on any given day you can find three generations at work including Nicole’s eight-year-old and four-year-old sons. (They’re the perfect R&D team!) Impressively that strong sense of family also extends into the community. Late July Organic Snacks supports several nonprofit organizations through the sale of their products, including the Jane Goodall Institute, American Camp Association and Whole Planet Foundation.

Nicole views making food for other people’s families (like yours) an enormous responsibility. Perhaps that’s why we think your whole family will love their Mini Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches. You can sit back and enjoy organic peanut butter sandwiched between buttery-tasting organic mini crackers, without worrying about trans fats, artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors or preservatives – because there aren’t any! With values like those, their products can’t help but leave a great taste in your mouth.

What’s built up your appetite this summer? Tell us in the comments below by August 26 and we’ll pick a winner at random to receive a case of Late July Organic Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers.

The fine print: No purchase necessary. Promotion ends August 26, 2012, 11:59 PM CDT. Must be a legal resident of the US or Canada (except in Quebec, where it is void) age 18 or older to participate. Taxes on prize, if applicable, are the responsibility of the winner. Employees of Whole Foods Market, Inc., are not eligible. Void where prohibited.

Yard work, lots and lots of yard work has built up my appetite. Weeding, mowing, trimming and turning compost (gently so as not to disturb the frogs living in the bin!).

My husband and I joined a Wellness program at a gym and rehab center in June. We've been going 3-4 X/ week or more for an hour to hour and a half doing weight training and cardio. I had knee and foot surgery in Feb. and hurt my "good knee" doing physio at another place, so it hasn't been easy. We are trying to eat healthier products and would love to give Late July Organic Snacks a try.

My husband was told he had to stop running due to a knee injury. Instead of moping around we started a new family activity of biking almost on a daily basis. We have always biked, but now we even bike to the store when we only need a few items. This clearly works up an appetite. So now, weather permitting, we started "bike to dinner Fridays"! The kids love it and it's fun finding a restaurant we have never been to that offers healthy choices. Living in Minneapolis gives us plenty to choose from and wonderful bike trails. We'll be sad when the snow flies...can you cross country ski to dinner?

Summer on the beach! Days spent playing in the water are a ture joy of the season, Nothing builds hunger in my kids like swimming, diving, and splashing in our local pond. We adore Late July snacks and keep them handy when it's time to refuel.

What builds my appetite this summer? Teaching my niece and nephew every Sunday how to tend to a garden and why organic food is so much better for you. They are seven and ten, and every Sunday they don't drink any soda! Not voluntarily, but one day without soda is better than zero. When we're not watching the kids, were cutting, spouting, and stacking wood for ourselves, my mom and dad, and my grandma. When I say we, that's my best friend Cory, and we get hungry!

We work in a resort town so basically you work a round the clock 4 months a year! If that doesn't build up your appetite nothing will! I look forward to slowing down and eating better!!

It was such a hot summer that "working up" and appetite was tough to do. But as I'm always trying to fill my appetite with healthy foods I try to incorporate that into my vacations. This year was visiting the earth-beautiful farmlands and vineyards in Loudoun County Virginia, went to a delicious farm to table restaurant:Market Table Bistro, WOW, YUM. I could have packed up a ton of gorgeous fruits. Some of us are so lucky to have the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables while others have nothing. Summer is a special time of year and thus a fitting name for a company who recognizes the responsibility and caring to give back. So in their giveaway, I would give away also, and when I win I would donate my case of Late July Snacks to an organization in the Appalachian area that feeds and helps folks who are not as lucky as I to be able to eat as I need, never mind to eat healthy! I know they would be so thrilled to receive this, so please don't be insulted that I would give away your presant. Thanks so much for being a company with a heart. Gratefully yours, Cynthia
