Orgain

We love our producers, suppliers and vendors and we think most of them have some pretty interesting stories behind their products too. We’re sharing some of our favorites here in an ongoing series.

In 1999, a devastating diagnosis led Andrew Abraham to become a physician and create the world’s first organic ready-to-drink nutrition shake.

During his senior year of high school, Andrew was faced with a rare cancer that required aggressive chemotherapy. During treatment, he relied on liquid nutrition and was appalled to find the only ready-to-drink options were made with specific ingredients that many physicians consider a “no-no” for cancer patients, including high-fructose corn syrup and artificial preservatives, sweeteners, flavors and colors.

“After an exhaustive search, I couldn’t find anything better, so I started blending my own organic shakes at home,” Andrew explains.

During the next decade, Andrew survived cancer, finished medical school, earned an MBA and became a family physician, yet little changed in the world of ready-to-drink shakes.

So Andrew decided it was time to develop Orgain.

After tireless hours of experimentation, 55 formulations and five blenders, he perfected a smooth, great-tasting blend of organic whey, organic brown rice and organic fruits and veggies and bottled it for grab-and-go convenience.

“We hear one resounding word all the time: Finally!” Andrew says. “People are so happy to find our product.”

Orgain was developed with a complete nutrition profile suitable for almost anyone, and it’s become the go-to drink for many athletes and physicians. It also continues to play a vital role in the lives of people with illnesses that affect appetite. Through organizations like Feeding America, the company donates thousands of cases of Orgain every year to cancer patients with financial hardships.

Hi, I was just given 12 free coupons and $50 in discount coupons as well. Should be receiving soon, I noticed on the website they sell the Nutritional Shakes at CVS and Walgreens but where can I actually get the Protein Shakes at? Whole Foods is about 1.5 hrs from me but because of my Parkinson's I cannot drive, can I use these coupons online? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you

I like the product, wish it was in the 8 oz size. It's expensive when someone is on a limited income. Use it for my sister who has down syndrome and had a stroke. Was using glucerna but it has all the bad sugars in it. It is cheaper. After reading about it today more I just can't use it any more for her. She also is diabetic and the 8 oz size is better. I have to devide the bottle for her to take to work. She is an adult but I have botten the kids size does that have the necessary nutrition for an adult?

I can't tell you how happy I am that Orgain exists! I've had absorption issues with my intestines for as long as I can remember and just last year I was also diagnosed with Gastroparesis. This combination of a paralyzed stomach and intestines that won't do their job leaves me with unending and crippling nausea that makes eating enough food and getting enough calories a daily struggle for me. My friends always hated my complaining about how easily I lose weight and even my Cardiologist said, "I have the disease every girl wants." But it's frustrating and lonely, especially when I don't get enough calories, I start losing my hair and my nails crack down the middle. It seems hardly the disease every girl wants because I've never felt so ugly and horrified to look in the mirror than when I'm so painfully emaciated. A few months back, I was at a support group meeting I help lead for Chronic, Progressive, and Terminal Diseases and getting enough nutrition is a topic that comes up frequently with the group. From people receiving cancer treatments to people dealing with Parkinson's calories become a commodity that is worth it's weight in gold. But when most nutrition drinks have corn syrup and artificial sweeteners? It becomes a false hope for gaining more weight, because you're left more nauseous and with the side effects of the artificial sweeteners (laxatives!). For a while my group did extensive trial and error with brands like Boost, Ensure (all varieties and flavors), and Ensure Clear. All our trial and error always ended in 'error.' It wasn't until a week ago, that Orgain came into my life. My Mom and I were wandering around a recently renovated Rite Aid, waiting for a prescription to be filled, when we came upon the nutrition drink aisle. We looked through it with morbid curiosity when my Mom spotted Orgain. It was a brand we had never seen before and we meticulously scoured the back ingredients. I'd been burned too many times before and my Mom was going to have none of that again. But Orgain was spotless. Not only did it taste good (really low on my list at this point, honestly it could taste like... a.. frog.. probably.. and I'd still drink it), but I didn't feel nauseous after drinking it. In fact, I felt really good after drinking it. It's amazing what actually getting nutrients feels like. I now feel like I can finally get a hold of my weight and I can't tell you how thankful I am for that. I'm currently writing up an e-mail to my support group about Orgain, and I'll be giving them all a container for them to try as well. I hope my experience extends to them, because a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and instead is being distributed about my body in the form of easy to digest calories! Thanks again, you guys are literally life savers, Kari Eidnes

I found Orgain Protein powder at Costco and love it. The only flavor offered there is Chocolate, which is delicious. I hope they get the liquid and other flavors so I can buy/try all of them. I do have a question: It seems I have tremendous gas as a result of drinking just two scoops in the morning. Anyone else have this issue?

Orgain Vegan Smooth Chocolate has been out of stock for quite awhile at the Marlton, 940 Rte. 73 S, NJ location. I ordered 2 cases (12 per case) ... when can my local Wholefoods Market expect these in stock. Getting frustrated.

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@TOM - Have you followed up with the store directly to see when they will receive this. It's more than likely coming from their distribution center so they would be the best point of contact to follow up on the eta.

My son has been debilitateingly ill since June 2014 with severe IBS, pain, constipation, cleft in larynx,.... He also has Autism, He has been loosing way too much weight , but is unable to eat any substantial food now with any caloric benefits. It is crucial now fr him to be on a nutritional protein shake that is not only dairy free, but gluten free, stevia free, no artificial sweeteners, corn syrup free, soy free. And needs to not be chalky or too thick b/c of his swallowing problems from his cleft in his Larynx,.... After crying myself to sleep from not being able to find anything for him to help him survive, I came across Orgain Vegan, Dairy Free Vanilla Protein and Nutritional Shake at Wegmans !! And, he loves it !! Thank you so much for making this product !! Deanna

FYI I add my thanks for this product, my health issues and nutritional values limit my choices of food intake at times. There are periods of time liquids are all my body can process. No need to share my health history. 2 years ago I was lunching at The Heritage in VA Bch, VA and found your product in their refrigerated case, knowing they are select about what is offered for sale I read the ingredients, tasted the product and now is my go to protein drink while away from home: or at events near by where I need a boost of energy, or even a grab and to bring to a meeting. May the Creative Forces of Goodness continue to help you bring products to market that are reasonable priced and keep us alive and well. by the by my husband loves this product so purchase enough for both of us where ever we can find it on sale. Blessings
