The Reel Deal on Seafood

Whole DealLove seafood but fear going overboard on spending? It’s time to turn the tide! For smooth sailing in the kitchen, the current issue of The Whole Deal value guide has budget-friendly recipes, Sure Deals, more than $56 in coupons, a daily meal planner and money-saving tips – including a boatload of simple seafood ideas!

3 Money-Saving Tips for Seafood

Here are three of our top tips for hooking a deal.

  1. Put overspending on ice. Choose our vacuum-packed frozen white fish, swordfish, salmon and more – pre-marinated, seasoned, unseasoned or stuffed. Look for Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)–certified choices too!
  2. Ask your fishmonger. Buy just half a fish or only the portion you need and we will fillet or debone, if you want to save time, too.
  3. Party of one? For simple savings and multi-meal solutions, reach for value packs of skinless farmed salmon fillets, frozen in individual portions.

How can I find out if white fish (or others) have been kept separate from shellfish during the packaging process? My boyfriend is allergic to shellfish and his doctor told him to stay away from all fish, just in case! This doesn't seem acceptable to me.

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@MISSY - Since our products differ between stores, I would encourage you to reach out to your local store to see if there is a vendor that keeps their fish separate from shellfish.

What happened to Whole Catch popcorn shrimp? I've been told, at several NYC locations they're no longer being made. Is that true?

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@JAY - I checked with our private label team and this has not been discontinued nationally. It's possible that the Northeast region has stopped carry this for some reason. The store should be able to tell you the difference.
