Tell Us Your Recipe for Romance

They say the way to a lover’s heart is through the stomach, and while that looks unappetizing in print, we know it’s true. Would your sweetheart be by your side if you’d plunked down a frozen burrito on your first let’s-do-dinner-at-my-place? Didn't think so.

Looking to sway cupid in the kitchen? We recommend this gorgeous Peppered Steak with Mushrooms, Seafood Risotto, Chicken Marengo or Romantic Rice Bowl, finished off with our ever-popular Flourless Chocolate Cake or Red Wine Strawberries and Cream. I am vegan, but my husbands favorite meal is a NY strip with corn on the cob, spinach salad and spiced basmati rice. It is important to me that I am able to purchase humanely treated meats, even though I don't eat it myself. When we started shopping at Whole Foods, my husband could not believe the difference in the taste as compared to conventional grocery stores. This has been his absolute favorite meal ever since!

I kind of suck at cooking, so I've never really done anything spectacular in the food department for a man. However, if any man cooks for me, that will pretty much make me love them. I have a plagued digestive system and a million food restrictions, so cooking for myself is a really big chore...someone willing to help me with that deserves my love.

my husband and i are both chefs so it was a mutual wooing with food. i won him over with pistachio creme brulee. to this day creme brulee is still one of his very favorites. he won me over with linguine with fresh tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese. last week i made him homemade lasagne that made him swoon.

My recipe involves champagne and hot fudge but that's as much as I can say in a family format. ;)

My hubby cooks for me every night...and no ladies, you can't have him..he's taken! He made the most amazing apple pie the other day. He gets his ideas for meals watching food channels. He loves to cook and I clean up after his "creative efforts."

My husband and I have come a LONG way both in our taste (literally) and cooking ability and the things I use to cook for him... well, I wouldn't make them today. I baited the hook with a chicken dish that was marinated in soy sauce and sautéed with zucchini and canned tomatoes served over boil in the bag white rice. As my recipe repertoire improved, this one got shelved. My husband is not a very romantic person, but I can read between the lines when we sit down to dinner and he takes that first bite and says "you can stay".

When I met my current boyfriend, I told him how great my peanut butter pancakes were--and normally they are. When he came over for breakfast, I burned the first batch and the second half came out raw! I guess I was nervous, but we ended up together anyway.

Yes I have cooked for love. When you love and cherish the person you are with, you are willing to do anything for him or her. The last time the love of my life and I cooked it was shanghai asian beef with vegetables that was steamed and wonderful with every bite. We are dessert fanatics so we afterwards we enjoyed birthday cake pieces that was around the house inside vanilla ice cream with whipped cream on top. It was heaven on earth! Special moments like those are what Cupid's arrow could never miss!

I love cooking and my husband certainly loved that aspect when we were dating and to this day. His favorite is a dish I first made for him in the dating days which is ground beef or sirloin with grilled & peeled poblano peppers and onions served with all homemade: rice, beans, salsa, tortillas. It's how my Grandma makes it. It's soo good and even writing about it makes me want a taco of it now! As for tonight, I am making for us stuffed shells w/ italian sausage and garlic bread... it's going to be a great night!

When my husband and I were newly married, he wanted me to bake him something special. I had no idea how to bake (at the time) but I was very creative in my ambitions. I thought up a Red Velvet Volcano Cake, with cream cheese frosting as the lava. It was huge, messy and full of love!

The first time that partner at the time was going to cook for me, he told me he was going to make me an onion and cheese sandwich. I couldn't hide the face that I made, but it turned out to be delicious!

I won my husband through a meal. After eating sea salt & peppered salmon, brown rice & steamed green beans, my boyfriend at the time told me he loved me for the first time. Four months later we were married & I totally attribute that meal to our falling in love. Years later, he still requests that meal & every time tells me, that's the night I knew I wanted to make you my wife.

Cathy says …

My now husband won my heart when every couple of days he would bring over some delicious seafood meal for me to take to work the next day. After a month of deliciousness, my coworkers said "You've got to marry this guy! He loves you so much that he cooks his heart out for you!" Twenty-three years later, he is still cooking for me, though he cooks more than seafood, and in gratitude for his delish food, I bake him wonderful gf desserts. We both are thrilled!

The guy I was dating, who is now my husband, knew I was working a long shift and probably wouldn't have anything to eat. He surprised me with a plate covered in foil that had a flank steak, ranch beans, garlic bread, and a candy bar for dessert. Needless to say, he completely won my heart and we've been together ever since!

Maria Pino says …

My sweet husband is the cook at most meals since he is truly the better cook between us, enjoys cooking and is home earlier most evenings. However, it was early on that I learned that he was creative as well. He has presented me with many birds made from apples and pears in our 18 + years together. Beautifully staged salads and many picture worthy and flavorful meals. I have taken pictures to prove it.

I made a birthday cake for my husband for the first time last year, and he raved about how good it was for a week! I can't wait to outdo myself this year!

My husband is a simple man, whereas I like my food complicated. To see him eat with joy, I have made him his favorite-which is Hawaiian sweet bread with melted fresh mozzarella! I know, sounds not very good, but he loves it.

There is NO BETTER WAY to impress the love of your life than Fettucine Alfredo and Chocolate Pots de Creme! Add smooth jazz, a red dress, a great champagne and he's yours for life .... it worked for me ~ and I've been married to the greatest man in the world for 21 years!

Sara McFerrin says …

After 54 years of marriage, I still love to cook for my sweetie. For the 54th Valentine's dinner, I will prepare his favorite; rib-eye steak, EVOO roasted red potatoes , and a chef's salad. The table centerpiece will be the dozen yellow roses that he brings me. (this will make 648 roses that he has given me) He surprises me with dessert. He shops for something with chocolate, knowing that anything that he chooses will be fine. We are both chocoholics.

All things RED (wine, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, filet mignon, strawberries, raspberries) + DARK CHOCOLATE (mousse, molten lava cake, NY Super Fudge Chunk ice cream, candy) = SO MUCH ROMANCE!

I made my boyfriend a rack of lamb seasoned with rosemary, lemon, garlic, pepper & salt in olive oil. I cooked a side of roasted asparagus with a hollandaise sauce and thickly sliced garlic bread. He had never had a rack of lamb before and was OOZING romantically while he devoured it! His other favorite is my tilapia fish tacos with broccoli slaw (made with mayo, sour cream, chili powder & apple cider vinegar) accompanied with a southwest style salad topped with my homemade cilantro-lime vinaigrette! He's also a big fan of my Vitamix made smoothies, I might add! All of the afore-mentioned are a guarantee for a night and morning of heavy petting and are a cure-all for any relationship problems or arguments. I'm pretty sure my Valentine's Day will be amazing this year!

Marika Nakamura says …

Yes, I have definitely cooked for my love. I do it everyday! I love to see him enjoy the healthy meals I make for him. I love it when he tries things that he never had tried before and ends up loving it! I'm from Japan so I try to cook him traditional Japanese dishes here in Boston. I've even started a blog logging that journey (it's www.jpinsider.com in case you are curious!). The most romantic meal which I will ever cook for him is actually coming up on Valentines day! I'm planning to cook up healthy but delicious desserts for him to taste, accompanied with some delicious wine. Can't wait, I'm so excited :) I'm trying to be creative too.
