Tell Us Your Recipe for Romance

They say the way to a lover’s heart is through the stomach, and while that looks unappetizing in print, we know it’s true. Would your sweetheart be by your side if you’d plunked down a frozen burrito on your first let’s-do-dinner-at-my-place? Didn't think so.

Looking to sway cupid in the kitchen? We recommend this gorgeous Peppered Steak with Mushrooms, Seafood Risotto, Chicken Marengo or Romantic Rice Bowl, finished off with our ever-popular Flourless Chocolate Cake or Red Wine Strawberries and Cream. Warning: the aforementioned recipes could all lead to swooning — or spooning.

One of my boyfriend's favorite desserts is a good old fashion American apple crisp, even being a native Canadian. That said, he LOVES bananas and anything with banana in it. So, I decided to put a slight twist on the classic apple crisp and make him a caramelized banana crisp with fresh organic whipped cream. Not only that but I decided to make it gluten free. Equipment: Mini spring-form pan or ceramic dish for baking Vanilla Whipped Cream: 1 large vanilla bean soaked, split and gutted 1 pint organic heavy whipping cream 2 TB powdered maple crystals Crisp Topping: Gluten free flour 1/2 egg, beaten Filling: 3-4 ripe, organic bananas 2 TB organic honey 1 tsp vanilla bean 1 pinch seal salt

I cooked for my boyfriend for the first time four years ago. Fried pork chops, fresh string beans and my famous Mac and cheese. Four years later he is still eating at my table. Can you say love at first bite!

My husband and I met while serving in the US Navy in Spain. His pick up line was asking me to help him make some lasagna. So, one evening we did! It tasted delish! After a few years of dating, we got married on Valentine's Day. This year will be our 9th wedding anniversary. So, each V-day, we make lasagna. It's awesome b/c each year we make it different....vegitarian, ground beef, turkey, change up the sauces, cheeses. Each year our marriage is different, just like our lasagna. Oh la la :)

My husband knows the way to my heart is with his califlower mash. It's too labor-intensive for me to want to make for myself but he does it from prep to clean up. What a sweetheart!

I used to make a decadent recipe from an old Metropolitan Museum of Art employee cookbook for my husband, for special occasions, because he really loved it. It had sliced potatoes, butter, Italian sausage, and sour cream in it, and was baked in the oven. He loved it, and I felt bad when I had to stop making it for Valentines Day and his birthday. Too much cholesterol! But thinking of that dish brings back fond memories of the early years of our marriage. :-)

My husband has a sweet tooth. I cook for him almost every night, but the way to his heart is through sweets. His favorite is a coffee cake recipe I make from the Flour Bakery in Boston.

A weird combination, but tuna noodle casserole and chocolate chip cookies made the day!

There is nothing more romantic than to sit down together after a long day at work with a glass of lovely (preferably Virginia) wine and some cheese, crackers, olives and other appetizer type delights. I love going to Whole Foods on the way home, picking up cheese, salami, some dips and even some prepared foods, and greeting my husband of 38 year when he gets home, knowing that we will have wonderful food and the leisure to catch up with each other.

Rosemary and garlic crusted racks of lamb with herb-roasted potatoes and steamed asparagus, with a favorite vintage cab or pinot noir, and ending with cheesecake with raspberry coulis.

I made salmon with roasted potatoes and sautéed green beans. It was delicious!

As two vegetarians and local-vores, in February, a great disk is sweet potato, kale and feta cheese patties held together with seasoned bread crumbs and some eggs. So delicious, healthy, and simple!

I have only learned to cook in the last four years. My husband cooked for the first 10 years we were together. He even made birthday cakes from scratch for the kids and for me. We love to cook together now and last year for his birthday I made a four layer German chocolate cake from scratch for him. I have a scar from where I burned myself taking it out of the oven. It was worth the look on his face when I surprised him with it and he still talks about how much he loved it.

Valentines Day I cook for my husband of 32 yrs. We have filet mignon, shoestring potatoes, aspargus with hollindaise sauce. For dessert: strawberries romanoff . Champagne and chocolate are also included. We set up a small table in front of our fireplace, our favorite music and enjoy the day of love and eachother.

For my birthday last year my husband (then fiancé) made a vegan triple chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache frosting--three layers all from scratch! He isn't a baker, generally doesn't cook, and is definitely not vegan! It was the most delicious cake I've ever eaten and among some of the most romantic gestures he's ever made. I'm smiling as I type this remembering how absolutely romantic that was.

I once made a pot roast with potatoes, carrots, and onions for a girl I really wanted to impress. Then I made us strawberry shortcake for dessert. She dated me for quite a while after that but she always wanted me to cook.

I made homemade tomato sauce, pasta and garlic bread...he loved it and we have been married 13 years!

I made my new boyfriend a homemade Valentine's Day dinner last year. It was tilapia filets marinated in a butternut squash oil and balsamic vinegar, with quinoa and roasted veggies. It wasn't the greatest, but he appreciated the thought. Since then, I've won him over with my healthy fudge. Can't go wrong with that!

Jacque Pepin has a great fast roasted chicken recipe that is gourmet but easy. It's fast because you use poultry shears or sharp kitchen scissors to remove the backbone, flatten everything, baste front and back with an easy honey mustard garlicky sauce, and start off searing in a pan on the stove for a few minutes that then goes into the oven for 30 minutes. It comes out browned and perfect. Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans and bon apetit! My husband loves it.

My husband, Melvin, is a FANTASTIC baker!!! Last year, he made three different flavored bread puddings and invited his favorite friends and family over to sample his home-made delights. He even purchased "to go" containers. Just being on the list makes guests feel loved and I feel loved just knowing that he chose ME!!!

Every day. I love to cook and I love to have someone to cook for. My fiance loves good food, but cooking isn't one of his gifts. We take care of each other, in food and otherwise.

I had someone make me homemade lavender ice cream after I mentioned that I tried it once and loved it. He ordered the lavender buds online and borrowed a friend's ice cream maker!

The way to a man's heart is a grilled prime steak and freshly cut French fries ...veggies optional, say to say... much appreciated and works every time.

Choc dipped strawberries, oysters on 1/2 shell, cinnamon baked rolls, pork medallions, spinach salad

He's a much better cook than I am, but he always loves to eat the Mexican chocolate cake I make on his birthday.

Once when I was dating my now husband, my pro chef bro in law made some spaghetti sauce for me which I said was my own, and won my husbands love. Only afterwewere seriously dating did I confess!!!! Sneaky!!!

The last time I cooked for a boyfriend, I was 18 years old and thought I would marry the guy. I spent four hours preparing, chopping, and baking away. I don't even remember everything I cooked except the dessert, which I was most proud of. I made a homemade Oreo Ice Cream cake. He went on and on about how good it was and then left me two months later. Needless to say, I haven't done that since!!! However, I have been told I'm a good cook, so I won't give up looking for Mr. Right. I'm perfecting my roasted chicken for when I finally do find him: )

I love to try new recipes that I have never made before. This summer I made Paella on the grill. It was a hit! Valentine's day is always dinner by candle light: salad, steak, potato, veggie & chocolate covered strawberries :)

On Valentine's I cook for my boys for love . . . their absolute favorite dessert (which is reserved just for that day) is Nutella Filled Wontons dusted w/ Confectioner's Sugar & served with Strawberries. So easy, so decadent, and so much a part of our Valentine's Day!

I make homemade chocolate covered cherries for my love. Maraschino cherries with a buttercream cover, dipped in milk chocolate, drizzled with white chocolate. Sweeeeeet love!

My teen daughters are both watching their diets but love desserts like everyone else, so I must be creative with a good balance between taste and health. I make them raw strawberry "cheesecake" with blended soaked cashews, strawberries, coconut paste, lemon, vanilla, and soaked golden Hunza raisins for the sweetener. They are satisfied with just a small piece served with raw strawberry sauce on top.

The love of my life is my husband of three months, we met last February on a blind date. On our third date he made Lasagna, but it had a twist to it. It had pieces of grilled chicken for the meat and was covered in enchilada sauce on every layer. I like to call it Enchilada Lasagna.

Homemade lasagna with homemade pasta, homemade Italian sausage, and homemade ricotta. Amazing!

Mexican food is always the way to my husband's heart. I have made vegetarian tortilla soup, enchiladas with homemade tomatillo sauce, and our newest "invention:" homemade corn tortillas on my husband's Christmas tortilla press. We make tacos for dinner, breakfast, lunch, snacks... and we've even started baking the tortillas to make homemade tostadas. Delicious topped with refried black beans, diced tomatoes, jalapenos, crumbled feta cheese, chopped cilantro and salsa! Then every Valentine's day I make Warm Chocolate Souffle Cakes with fresh whipped cream. Both swooning and spooning inducing!

Chicken stew w/homemade biscuits. The first time I made this & he told me it was better than his mom's, I knew I had a keeper (thanks Ina Garten). I like to use organic chicken & veg from WF's + King Arthur flour for the biscuits. For dessert I think his fav is fresh berries layered with sweetened creme fraiche & crumbled graham crackers. I add a dash of vanilla extract & grated lemon zest to the creme fraiche to make it extra yummy!!

My Love tells me that she's romantically touched by many of my dishes. But the first was poached eggs w/alaskan salmon and a homemade mush n spinach n shallot cream sauce, poured over a scallion pancake. Note: she HATED eggs b4 this day. I was blessed to cook for her the "next morning", but didn't know I was expanding her pallete as well! Happy coming V Day!
