I was in college and my first love was an excellent cook. We bought a cheese and fruit platter with wine for our first Valentine's Day and watched our favorite comedy movies. Afterwards, I went upstairs to take a shower and to my absolute surprise, came back in the living room to find a dozen roses on the coffee table with candles lit on either side and displayed in the center....a homemade key lime pie! My absolute favorite! He had intricately peeled the key lime into little twirls and placed it on top of the pie as a finishing piece. W ended up devouring half the pie till 1 a.m!

I love cooking for my boyfriend, a budding foodie who's open to trying new things. One of my most memorable desserts that I cooked for him was a dark chocolate brioche bread pudding with homemade bourbon-spiked caramel sauce. He had never had bread pudding before and thought it was the most luscious creation he had ever had. More often now, we cook together when trying new dishes, which makes the experience that much more romantic.

When I met my husband 10 years ago, his half birthday was coming up, so I made from scratch a strawberry cake and presented him with only half. He reciprocated with a red velvet cake. He had to call his mom for the recipe, and buy a hand mixer, as this was his first time really baking. I made him a pumpkin pie a week later. After this, I mostly made him treats on his birthday each year.

I made broiled filet drizzled with a cracked black pepper & blue cheese reduction and topped with crispy shallot rings. Also asparagus grilled with 360 EVOO. And a bottle of Agriculturist organic wine to top it off. :)

I made a hazelnut praline gateau for the person dearest to me. It was layers of thin hazelnut genoise, soaking syrup, hazelnut praline butter-cream, dark chocolate ganache, and hazelnut fleur-de-sel brittle crunch topping. Thank you for the giveaway!

It's the mood that sets the recipe for romance. So it's the lighting, atmosphere, music, the clothes my husband likes me in and a culinary surprise that puts a smile on his face (which can be anything), but it shows you took the time to care and of course no kids around.

I love to make a dish that takes time and love, like Risotto. I think it shows how much you care having to slowly add the broth and stir, we'll for at least thirty minutes. Wild Mushroom Risotto is great with Seared Scallops or Shrimp. I recently made Farro Risotto which was a nice change. Happy Valentines Day! Laura xx

I'm usually a good cook but my first time cooking for my fiance, I was so nervous that I totally botched beef stir fry with rice, which is a regular meal for me! He ate it anyway and was polite enough not to say anything even when I apologized profusely for how bad it was. That's when I knew I loved him!

The first special treat I created for my sweetheart (now my wife) were dark chocolate truffles coated in cocoa. That turned her into a dark chocolate fanatic just like me!

for our anniversary, my husband cooked a fantastic meal, all ingredients were bought with love and care at whole foods, then he made home made croutons, Cesar salad, and the most delicious lasagna made with home made bechamel sauce, o my! i still think about that meal 5 years later, lots of love, lots of work. (he looks very handsome with a apron too)

I had to bake cookies for a function at work right as my husband and I started dating. So instead of canceling our date I invited him over to help after work. I guess he liked my cookies as he proposed 4 months later :-).

When my husband & I were dating he made me the one & only dish he knows how to cook---chili. But he served it with toast on fancy dishes and set the table with candles and escorted me to the dining table and pulled out my chair and made it the most romantic chili ever.

Kimchi! And red wine. A rice bowl with stir-fried veggies, a fried egg, and a healthy dose of spicy kimchi with soy sauce and a nice glass of red = total aphrodisiac! Of course I'm lucky that my boyfriend loves it too. Pretty sure that could be a relationship-killer :)

When my husband and I plan a romantic evening, we snack along with some champagne. The snacks might include d'Affinois cheese on bagette slices or country crackers, a selection of olives, fruit (strawberries, apple, pear), havarti, and something dark chocolate for dessert. Nobody cooks and not many dishes to wash, which is a romantic notion too.
