And the Green Prom Winner is...

You may recall that we announced the Project Green Prom contest put together by Teens Turning Green. Teens had the chance to make a video and send it in to win a green makeover of their school's prom. Congrats to Claudia O. from Dallas for winning with this video.

Even though the contest part of Project Green Prom is over, there is a ton more information on the Teens Turning Green website about ways that teens can make thoughtful decisions and informed purchases for prom season. Project Green PromBeginning with greener alternatives in hair, make up, skin and body care products and extending to include prom attire and accessories, décor, transportation and flowers, their goal is to inspire teens across the country to action that will sustain our health and that of our planet.

Congratulations to Claudia O for a fantastic video! And congrats to all the girls who submitted entries - its great to see so much green planning for proms! For additional green prom alternatives, you might also want to consider eco-friendly, fashion-forward dresses made with organic cotton, bamboo, and soy such as by Kelly Lane. These garments are much better on the environment (and your skin) than conventional cotton and also look beautiful. Eco-friendly, fair trade purses such as recycled soda pull tab purses are also a great option, because they aer very cute, they help fuel the recycling market, and they empower the women artisans who make them (who come from underpriviledged backgrounds). Good luck to everyone in making their proms green!

my favorite meal is soup. today I made soup from leftover ham bone and the neck and giblets of the turkey I made for easter. In it I added chopped carrots, half an onion, sliced cucumber, yellow pepper cut up, and added my own seasonings like cayenne pepper, black pepper, and then some greek seasoning as well as vegeta. Variations on this is the spices and the veggies, I normally use what I have in the fridge or freezer (sometimes I cut fresh veggies and freeze them right away for quick soups like this one. Leftover 'cheap soup' is cool and easy. You can do it with almost anything and I say let your creative juices flow when you make it:)
