i think i'll treat my mum to one of her favorite things: a weekend lunch at our local Whole Foods Market in Napa, CA. we'll each select something from the deli, or a made-to-order burrito, pizza, or the soup/salad bar and then sit outside in the heated sitting area and enjoy a long lunch. the food's always great, the people-watching is fun, and her grandkids (who always have the fresh mac & cheese) love the whole experience with those "little shopping carts!" then, it's back in to the store for a gelato of our choice - the perfect end to a perfect lunch :)

A great way to celebrate Mom , or for Mom to celebrate herself, starts with a beeswax candle globe. These pressed flowwer beeswax globes are in the cosmetics area at WF, and they smell amazing and are SO beautiful. I like to buy local products for myself and for gifts, so I would then buy a local body care kit that my WF offers--a little bag with lotion, shampoo, soap. . .all natural AND local! And then, of course, a bouquet of organic flowers from the amazing floral department. And who can forget food? It should be easy, since ALL Mother's are celebrating. Easy enough for Dad and the kids to prepare! A few pieces of feta and spinach stuffed salmon pinwheels from the fish department can go in the oven for a few minutes, and they are ready! Roasted potatoes from the deli case, tomato and mozzarella salad from the buffet, and maybe some inestrone soup from the soup bar to round it out. Finally, a celebration must always include dessert. . .depending on Mom's preferences, a coconut layer cake, banana cream pie, or chocolate caramel cupcakes would be amazing choices! And THAT, friends, is an amazing Mother's Day--all from Whole Foods!

Any of the Applegate products are my favorite pick! Their philosophy on treating animals humanely and not adding whack ingredients to color their products are tops in my book. And everything is deelish! :)

My mom recently got diagnosed with cancer and is seeing a nutritionalist who recommends organic foods, very little preservatives, cut the dairy, no nuts or seeds....so her diet has become quite limited. I have shopped at Whole Foods for a while since I have two kids to try and keep healthy, so my mom enjoys my frequent new finds from Whole Foods! For Mother's Day...the 365 truffles are delish! Or I was thinking of getting some fresh organic strawberries and dipping them in some melted dark chocolate. Another idea I had was to get her some relaxing aromotherapuetic oils and maybe a book on how to use them. I enjoy everyones idea on here! Thanks guys!!!

Mary says …

My favorite thing to get at whole foods are the dark chocolate covered cherries found in the bulk food section. A great dairy free snack.

While there are many things I LOVE about Whole Foods, I particularly enjoy the quality and affordable pricing of the bulk foods. Other companies' steel cut oats (sold in all the packaging) cost more than twice as much as WF bulk! Thanks!

One of my favorite product lines at whole foods is the 365 shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion in herbal mint. I love this product because is is sooo inexpensive but it gives me a nice, rich invigorating expericene as if i just left the expensive spa.The lotion works great on sore tired feet too, just ask the hubby to give you a nice 10 minute foot massage! Being a new mom it also helps keep me energized I think any mom no matter what their budget could get this product or one of the other scents to help them relax!! Plus the products are paraben free!!!!!!

Whole Foods ~ What to recommend???? There are so very many things I love at Whole Foods - and I always feel like I am doing something great for my family when I leave. My entire family LOVES to order a pizza from the Pizza shop! The best tasting pizza in town! I personally love the Pacifica Candles in Whole Body - my favorite scent is Madagascar Spice! I also absolutely love the spinach, feta and pine nuts stuffed chicken breast in the preparation complete meat department! Thank you for bringing us such wonderful foods!

While I am a relatively new shopper at Whole Foods, there are definitely some things I keep on hand that make me happy! I most recently purchased a Neti Pot, and that is for preservation of my health in a most natural way. I am a lifelong allergy sufferer, but NOT ANY MORE! Gelato is a fabulous indulgence. I agree; sharing with the kids is OPTIONAL ;-) There is an alternative to the sugar-bomby "other brand" peanut butter puffs that I discovered -- I think they're called Peanut Butter Pows, and I want to say it's by 365? My daughter loves them. Last but not least, Jason Dandruff Relief Shampoo. OMG Have you tried this stuff??? Sulfate-free, and it keeps the flakes AWAY. Thank you, Whole Foods! My only criticism is that I would like a Whole Foods store closer to home -- I have to drive about 25 minutes to get to you guys. But, I will gladly do it, because the selection is awesome and the staff is always friendly!

I wirk for wholefods and they are the most amazing company to work for. I absolutely love the strawberry and goat cheese salad that we carry and if i work in one of the stores and not a facility i swear i would eat it every day!Keep being fabulous:)

I love earth balance, and I am so happy that people are finally getting turned onto it!

I like everything in WF but I have to say that my favorites are the 365 Ice Cream - it's creamy, made without rBST, lower in fat than other good ice creams, and the price is right. My other favorite is the smoked mozzarella and penne pasta in the prepared foods section. I can't shop without leaving with a container in my bag. And the only place I can find organic, 100% grass-fed, and humanely slaughtered beef is WF, unless I purchase online directly from a farm. My mother adores the 365 frozen fruit Popsicles...she can't get enough of them.

Alex McCoy says …

I am the mother of two in their 20's. They are the most precious and creative women I know. My desire was for them to grow up to be responsible, caring adults who contribute to society and care about the world in which they live. Part of this growth was to be aware of the food they take into their bodies. With Whole Foods I was able able to expose them to the best quality food available in the Tulsa area. Over the years we have really enjoyed the fresh meats, veggies, bulk items (such as granola and nuts)and fruit leather. But their all-time favorite was grinding their own peanut butter with carob chips! Not only is this good to eat out of the container with a spoon, it makes great cookies and pb&js. My excitement, when Mother's Day is near, is the anticipating of the beautiful flowers available at Whole Foods. A backyard barbeque of the sirloin hot dogs with fresh salads from the deli, with my two girls and my husband, would make my day complete.

I love the olive bar.

Linda Johnson says …

Even with the nearest Whole Foods 318 miles away, I always manage to stock up on bulk items if I am traveling by car or lightweight goodies if I have flown. I love not having to read for a minute to get to the end of the ingredients lists. I also appreciate the low carbon footprint of the stores themselves, the Fair Trade items and the other ways Whole Foods is proactive in making a better world for me, my children, my grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

KM says …

I would pick up one of those beautiful handmade baskets and fill it with lots of organic and delicious pantry items... That way my mom could always have them on hand!

Linda HB says …

Since we're close enough to summer, my pick for a fantastic Mother's day lunch would be: - an heirloom tomato salad with some fresh herbs - a grilled cheese sandwich with Olga's (local bakery) stout bread, Cahill's Irish Porter cheese and Kate's butter - a STACK of Vosges chocolate bars and fresh berries - Teas Tea white/green tea, ice cold

Katrina Rau says …

Some nice fresh flowers...moms love them. A lot of times I will get a potted living plant full of flowers so that she can enjoy them longer and its much more green.

David Pardo says …

I have visited Whole Foods Markets all accross the country, and one of my favorite things to do is find food that is exclusively local. I also love the santa cruz passion fruit juice. Makes a great mixer.

I think Whole Foods was one of the best things to come to CT and Glastonbury in particular. With a large amount of non-healthy or expensive restaurants this is great for variety and healthiness. My favorite thing about Whole Foods is the Girls Night Out they have once a year with the clothing swap and free samples. The free samples give people a chance to try before you buy and that's important for several reasons and one in particular that you will use it and not throw it away and waste it. I also love the little lunch size/small bags that they sell. I gave one as part of a "Reduce/Reuse/Recycle" Christmas present at our holiday swap. The pizza if phenomenal as is the coffee and everyone is so nice. My one comment is that they should have flowers specials more often...like they did at Valentine's with all the roses (which were GORGEOUS). I'd love to be able to have that special more often that just special occasions.

I love the 365 truffles and the Pacifica candles!

I love just about anything from World Foods!! And.......to have it cooked by my Dad, Husband and Brother, so we 'Moms' can just relax and hang out!! We usually grill out as this is what the guys excel in best!! My parents are in their 80s, have everything they could ever want or need, thus hard to buy for. So....I give them perennial plants for their house & their yards to enjoy all year, plant them for them outside (as well as the rest of their yardwork my husband & I do for them!),and something I give them every special day & holiday.....they have become so accustomed to now....certificates for manicures & pedicures (my Dad had really gotten hooked on this, so another thing they do together).....they have a designated day each week - right after my Mom gets her hair done - to get their man-peds!!! On another note, I would LOVE to shop World Foods more often, IF you would please, please, please build one in Newnan, Georgia!!! We are right off Interstate 85 South & counties around us come here to shop, so it would be a GRAND success!!

Where to start? The fantastic cheese selection (we have discovered so many new favorites)? The bakery (with the best fruit tarts)? The coffee/tea bar (mmm honey vanilla chai tea latte)? The produce, with always fresh pineapples available? I have been introduced to Meange a Trois wines, Barramundi fish, Smoked Salmon, Cotswold cheese, Edamame, and Green & Black chocolates at Whole Foods. We use the recipes online to try new things; my son and daughter get a cookie from the bakery every time they go; my husband will actually shop without me having to bribe him to do so (although he comes home with a bag of things that he has "no idea what to do with these, but I'll think of something!"). The people who work at our local store are incredible, so friendly and helpful. The meat cutter on Wednesday mornings usually has a new idea for me to try out; the produce guy lets me know what "just came in and is really good today"; and the cashiers always know to not bag my meats and poultry in with the produce and breads! I think I'll spend Mother's Day shopping. I won't have to cook, clean or referee any fights--plus I'll get chocolate!

I love the Feed 100 bag. Great cause and a bonus for the Moms that need to carry everything from sunscreen to beach towels. Oh BTW hubby dear, I would love to go to the beach for Mother's Day! Yup, I saw the whole video. Great job Whole Foods!

What better gift can moms give themselves and their families, than a love of fruits and vegetables, the gift of health, vitality, and whole foods? My favorite thing right now, is the sparkling lemon Italian soda. It's also especially good when mixed with ice tea. Yummm.

My pick for mother's day is the chicken apple sausage, found in the meat market section of Whole Foods Market. This sausage is made fresh daily in the meat market section of the store. It goes great with waffles or pancakes, fresh fruit, and fresh brewed coffee for a fabulous mother's day breakfast!

Raylee Baker says …

What Mom doesn't love a little pampering? The Whole Body section is where it's at!!! The Dessert Essence Organics products are so wonderful! They smell fabulous (Green Apple and Ginger shampoo and conditioner is my fave!) And the body care products are amazing. I love that the lotions (well, everything) are SLS free and paraben/phalate free! (Vanilla Chai body lotion smells soooo great!) I plan on putting together a little gift bag full of goodies from Whole Body for my Mom to take to her next week!!! I know she'll love them!! And I'll be adding in a bottle of Red Truck Pinot Nior too! (Just learned that it's made with organic grapes!!!)

Amy roche says …

My mom doesn't have a whole foods in her area yet (get on it, Nashua, NH!). When she comes to visit me in Providence, whole foods is a must stop. We get goodies to share and have a fun time just bopping through the store.

I love having Whole Foods within walking distance. My twin boys and 2 daughters love the specialty summer items. You carry all of the major brands preferred by our family in general; Newman's Own, Aubrey Organics, Annie's, Nature's Path, and Bone Sucking Sauce to name a few. Your produce is divine and cost effective, because it is so fresh that all of it gets eaten. Overall, you carry everything for a healthy family of six. The occasional samples are a nice touch because you expand our palette! In fact, many of our regular purchases are a result of a sample! As a mother of young children I truly appreciate your store.

My favorite "mom feature" of my Whole Foods in Austin, TX, is the free snacks for kids. When my 15-month-old son gets fussy in the shopping cart, I can grab a healthy snack--usually a banana, clementine or a pack of the the Snickerdoodle Snackimals--and my son immediately settles down. It's such a considerate feature for both moms and kids and makes shopping much easier. As for products, my son and I can't get enough of the tamari tofu in the salad bar section. It's a delicious way for us to add protein to salads and stir fries. We also love the delicious cheese selection, especially the Pure Luck pepper-crusted goat cheese (which is locally produced) and the Valbreso French feta. Thanks Whole Foods!

Stacey Heller says …

I am so pleased with the selection of healthy food choices for my 14 month old son. I was so happy to find the Happy Bites at Whole Foods after seeing how much it was going to cost to order from the Happy Family website. Happy Bites are great for toddlers, healthy finger food! As for me, I love the cheese section!! We love picking out a new cheese and sharing with our friends and family.

Elizabeth Moore says …

I would have to say that my favorite products are the fabulous produce and the exceptional yellow cupcakes with buttercream icing that look like huge flowers. Some grilled veggies, some curried chicken salad, and one of those cupcakes for dessert would be a fab Mother's Day lunch.

Joan says …

Everything is GREAT!!! Ilove the 365 Brands...quality foods at a quality price. BUT, my favorite place in the entire store is the cheese shop!!! The only problem is there is only 1 location in Western Pennsylvania :(

I am a grad student and live away from home. When my mom comes to visit me, her favorite spot to go is Whole Foods. We are from a small town, so she had never seen a store that sold such fresh, diverse and organic products. Some of her favorite things are the great selection of fresh veggies and rice. I, on the other hand, prefer the whoopie pies and chocolate chip cookies. While our tastes are different, we love spending time together in Whole Foods and mixing our favorites together to make a perfect meal.

Kristen says …

For mother's day, I always get my mom some flowers and make her a special breakfast. Whole Foods provides everything I need to make her day special - fresh cut flowers from local growers (lilies are her favorite), as well as organic strawberries, orange juice, and easy-to-make organic pancake mixes. I think I'll also pick up some eco-friendly Seventh Generation cleaning supplies (so I can clean up after the breakfast mess instead of mom). I love shopping at Whole Foods because the atmosphere is so clean and relaxing, and I know what I buy is not only going to be healthy for me and my family, but my purchase will also help support the community.

There are far too many favorites to choose from. The 365 whole wheat pasta is delicious and pretty much anything in beer alley in the Lamar St store :-) Put them together for a tasty carb fest!

Meaghan says …

Most definitely the Blue Diamond Natural 'Almond Breeze'. Thank you so much for the opportunity!

Christine says …

I think that since you have a great wine selection, belinis are the first order of the day made with prosecco or champagine and peach nectar. Then make mom some crepes filled with chocolate and strawberries, topped with a dollop of creme fraiche. A summery and sweet treat.

Hi - mother of almost 8 year old twins (boy/girl). They are a big fan of Annie's Cheddar bunnies. For a trip out to the park we make sure to pack some Luna bars and my favorite Newman's Chocolate Chip Cookies. Our favorite items come from the bakery. It is very hard to leave the store without at least one sticky bun and the zucchini muffins are "to die for". For quick and easy the kids love the pizza bar. Pick your own is always a winner with the kids. And you absolutely can't beat the cut fruit mixes. (Love the berries and kiwi) My daughter has also grown quite fond of the salmon sushi and it is much cheaper to take her to Whole Foods then the local sushi restaurant. Thanks WF!!

Rose says …

Anything with 365 label is great! But I am liking the great meat specials, too. Thanks WF for making shopping for groceries fun!

Michelle says …

Pretty much all of the Annie's Homegrown products and, of course, the Sonoma Chicken Salad. The produce tastes like candy, the cheeses meats and fish are all #1. There really are too many fav products to post here. I have to say that a recent non-food purchase of The Laptop Lunch Bento System for my 2.5 yr old to take her lunch to school in is the best yet!! BPA free and holds all of her goodies for the day- fresh and yummy. Whole Foods makes feeding your family Organically possible. We heart WF!!

Diane says …

My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last year and it has been a difficult time for our whole family. She has always been the glue that has held us all together and you could not find a woman who is more loved and adored than mine! This year for Mother's Day my husband, sister and myself are making her a big brunch. I watched the podcast and got a great idea of using the challah bread for french toast! Holla for challa!! I think that will be really great and french toast is one of her favorites. We will also of course be picking up some flowers for her as well. In the past year I have truly learned the importance of not taking my beautiful mother for granted. I don't know how much longer I have with the mom I have always known and loved--the woman who has been there for me through so many tough times. I want this Mother's Day to be perfect for her so she will know how perfect she is. I love you mom!

Jennifer says …

Breakfast in bed made by my husband and 17-mo-old daughter would be divine. Fair trade espresso w/ organic 1/2-1/2, fresh-squeezed OJ, organic mangos, Arrowhead Mills multi-grain blueberry pancakes, Applegate Farms bacon, Oikos Greek yogurt, and lots of cuddling.

Giselle C. Barrera says …

My favorite Whole Foods to go to is the one on Lincoln and Rose in the Venice/Santa Monica area. There's coffee, gelato, mexican, italian, sandwiches, pastries, the bakery and all the different hot and cold food bars! They even have the shopping carts with the little cars the kids can sit in. I can't tell you the difference that makes when I am shopping with my almost 3 year old daughter. She loves to put items in the car with her while we go around the store and then put those items on the counter when it's time to pay. It reduces the stress we moms (and dads) sometimes experience shopping with little ones.

Sally Kompare says …

I am Super Mommy to Ben(5)& Rosie(2 1/2). I could not get through my day w/out WF! WF has THE best price on organic milk! 365 yogurts -love the strawberry! WF vitamins keep me & the kids powered up! The kids love the orange and strawberry flavors & the happy face & kitty shapes.(No begging & pleading required!)Bulk foods make it easy & fun to pick out yummy snack foods:sunflower & pumpkin seeds, soy nuts, sesame sticks, banana chips! All are even better when you combine them for trail mix. LOVE the bulk spices! Best cinnamon for ALL my baking! -especially the cookies! When it's time to pamper me - I go for a long hot shower w/ 365 GRAPEFRUIT!So refreshing and it smells great too!A must do @ the end of my day - Yogi Lotus tea - it even tastes like peace and quiet.:)

Lisa says …

I love Whole Foods and just wish that I didn't live so far away from the nearest one! I think the wine selection is excellent! There is no store with a better wine selection within 75 miles of where I live. And the olive bar and cheese selection are equally amazing. The only constructive criticism I have is build a store closer to me!!!!
