Eros Yogurt

CONGRATULATION TO OUR WINNER PATRICIA FROM ANN ARBOR, MI. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR GREAT COMMENTS! We love our producers, suppliers and vendors and we think most of them have some pretty interesting stories behind their products too. We’ll be sharing some of our favorites here in an ongoing series. Read on for a chance to win a $50 gift card. What does it take to run a creamery? If you’re Jennifer Bice, it takes lots of care, concern and meticulous attention to detail. The organic creamery behind Eros Organic Greek Yogurt, is operated 100% on solar power from two acres of solar panels. Running on these solar panels is “equal to taking 76 cars off the road, planting 110 trees or powering over 50 homes, “ Bice says. “Creameries use tremendous amounts of energy so we’re constantly looking at new ways that we can deliver the product in a more sustainable fashion.” In addition to solar energy, the creamery uses motion-sensored lights that only come on when needed in order to minimize lighting usage, has electric car charging stations (also operated by solar power) and a computer-operated water system that measures the exact amount of water needed to clean their operational equipment. The same consciousness applies not only to the creamery, but also to their relationship with Diamond W Dairy, their award-winning dairy producer. Using one dairy to provide all of the milk for Eros yogurt means that they can save in transportation resources as well as get fresh, high-quality milk to the creamery faster. “We really wanted the best and most high quality milk, so we’ve formed a partnership with the Diamond W Dairy because they have one of the best dairies in Sonoma County,” says Bice. Brothers Ron and Ken Wilson run the dairy, which provides organic milk from 600 cows to supply all of the milk that goes into Eros Yogurt. The Wilson brothers are the third generation of their family to run their farm and they’re known for the care with which they treat their cows. “We want to make sure the animals are taken care of; I think it just tastes better in the end product.” says Bice. “Eros Organic Greek Yogurt is exclusive to Whole Foods Market, is one of the few organic Greek yogurts, and on top of that, it’s delicious!” Eros Organic Greek Yogurt is available in plain, vanilla, honey, strawberry and blueberry and is found only in our stores. What do you think about the efforts that Eros Organic Greek Yogurt makes to conserve resources in its creamery? Watch the slideshow above and leave a comment with your answer by September 27th. One comment will be chosen at random to win a $50 gift card to our stores.

It's great that Eros is committed to producing a quality organic product while reducing their energy costs, so they can pass the savings on to their customers. Additionally, although I'm not impressed by the use of "sustainable energy," I prefer to purchase products from companies that are good stewards of the environment. Keep up the good work.

Interesting and cool story re Eros Organic Greek Yogurt. I am impressed by Eros Yogurt's dedication to being organic, conserving & optimizing the resources in it's facility and working with organic, family farms. It is because of Whole Foods sourcing suppliers like Eros and the chain of commitment by WF, Eros and Diamond W Dairy to providing quality organic products, in a green and conservational manner, that makes me want to shop and support Whole Foods. Thank you, Eros Organic Greek Yogurt. Thank you, Whole Foods.

I love thick creamy yogurt, and I love the concept of a 100% solar powered dairy. Eros is an appropriate name for this product.

I love to see companies that are as concerned about the planet and their customers as they are about their bottom line. I also think it's great that they treat their employees well. I will definitely be buying more Eros yogurt.

It is fabulous to hear about a farm that treats the livestock with respect!!! We can eat animal products without feeling like we are contributing to the harm that so many farms do the animals they raise for food. i love the story about this company - all corporations should strive to be such good stewards of the planet and all it's creatures! Bravo!

Love that they have electric car charging stations. Do they also drive electric cars? Or somehow support their employees in purchasing electric cars?

Have always had Eros on hand for starting the day - discovered that a big bowl of this with fresh fruit is a perfect response to later night dessert-type cravings: delicious, much healthier, and totally sets you up for the next day

That is great. Everyting tastes so much better without all the chemicals and what a great way to reduce the footprint on the Earth by the solar part. Thanks!

Katie says …

This is not only great for consumers but the environment. I am happy to hear there are more companies taking such concern for their carbon footprint as well as their quality of food.

In harmony with family, food, and mother nature. Says it all. We should learn to do/make and eat food that is more earth friendly and body loving. I agree with the lady above, raw milk is the "healthiest" milk. We should all watch how we treat/create our environment/animals/food, and try to improve as we learn, not stick to one particular method of growing, cooking, eating or preparation of food.

Brandon Miles says …

A simple and perfect way to provide a product. I wish more companies would follow. Yummy and good for everyone too!

How awesome is that?!! Being totally 'green' is wonderful...and making sure your employees are happy is a great way to ensure the integrity of your product. Happy cows makes delicious yogurt! I love it!

Manyesha says …

I'm vegan, so I have not tried Eros' yogurt. But I purchase it for my family, and they've only ever asked for more--which means they enjoy it. I appreciate companies that function according to their values and integrity. I 100% believe that the care that companies, such as Eros, apply to their operations--whether cows or sustainable practices--directly reflects what one can expect in the quality of their product.
