Gluten Free Bakehouse

Take a look behind the scenes at Whole Foods Market’s Gluten Free Bakehouse.  In 1996, Lee Tobin was diagnosed with celiac disease, and, as a baker in our Chapel Hill, North Carolina, store, this presented a real challenge.  But Lee took it on! He began experimenting with gluten free baking on his own time, developing recipes that rivaled conventional goods in flavor and texture.  Over the years, Lee’s gluten free breads and baked goods flew off the shelves faster and faster.  By October 2004, he was proud to fire up the gluten free ovens in the new, completely separate, dedicated facility: the Whole Foods Market Gluten Free Bakehouse.

Do you have gluten free deserts for the holidays?

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@MOMMA G - Most of our stores should offer gluten free options but the exact variety can differ. Check with your local store directly to see what types of GF pies they have in stock!

I agree with Lisa below. I, however, am not vegan, but itch horribly if I eat anything with egg yolk in it. I can tolerate the whites or no eggs at all, but not the yolk. I am lactose intolerant, not good with soy and gluten intolerant. It would be so nice once in awhile to be able to pick up a treat at your store to eat, but it is very difficult to find cookies, cakes, pies or anything else that meets my needs. Since eggs are a high allergy food, I can live with a vegan product, at that should help a great number of people who also have lactose and gluten issues, too. Thanks for listening!

I have to be cf/gf/df And cannot have oats, yeast, xanthan gum or quinoia. It is very hard to find any variety of foods. I wish you could make a roll without any of that, but it is impossible! Trying to find foods without and derivatives is nearly impossible!

The video is about Whole Foods and is produced by Whole Foods and is blocked by Whole Foods. How ridiculous.
