Holiday Cheer

Gift giving, gift wrapping — even gift receiving — goes down a lot easier with homemade mulled wine. A few simple ingredients and a few short minutes is all it takes. Watch as host Amy Devers shows you how easy it is to make homemade mulled wine in the latest episode of Urban Eco. You’ll find her recipe and instructions for making her spiced wine gift set behind the Read More link. Mulled Wine Recipe Ingredients: 6 cinnamon sticks, crushed 2 TB cardamom pods, crushed 3 TB dried lemon peel 3 TB dried orange peel 3 TB whole cloves 3 TB chopped crystallized ginger 2 TB whole allspice 1 TB black peppercorns (optional) Cheesecloth or cooking sachets 1 bottle dry red wine Sugar, to taste (1/3–2/3 cup suggested) Method: 1.Combine all of the spices and divide into six sachets (or squares of cheesecloth, which you would then tie up with string) 2.Simmer the red wine with one spice sachet and sugar in a saucepan for about 20 minutes. Do not allow to boil! 3.Use remaining five spice sachets for gifts (remember to include heating instructions) or store in an airtight container for future batches of mulled wine or mulled apple cider. What’s your recipe for holiday cheer?

Interesting article about Whole Foods bringing in food from China. What gives?? How do we know its organic when the USDA does not inspect food from China. Whats with the small print on the back of your 365 packages? As much as the extra cost to shop at Whole Foods is, why not haveit come from our farmers in the USA??
