We love our producers, suppliers and vendors and we think most of them have some pretty interesting stories behind their products too. We’re sharing some of our favorites here in an ongoing series.

When nutritional consultant Chakra Levy began fermenting non-dairy KeVita in her home kitchen, she created a completely new kind of drink and joined forces with winemaker and entrepreneur Bill Moses to bring KeVita to market. The result of KeVita Co-Founders’ Chakra and Bill's effort is a sparkling drink with a pleasing, mellow fermented flavor that is not tart or vinegary.

Unlike other kefir drinks, it is not dairy based, nor is it kombucha or juice or soda — KeVita has its own unique, refreshing sparkle and taste. “We first created KeVita for its probiotics and have found that KeVita works well with so many diets and lifestyles,” Chakra says. “It’s a delicious, uplifting drink enjoyed as a boost, a post-workout drink or a coffee, soda or juice alternative.”

The making of organic KeVita starts with a living probiotic culture fermented on site at the company’s facility. It is then blended with a base of coconut water, tea or fruit. Lightly carbonated, most flavors are sweetened with no-calorie stevia and there are choices with or without caffeine.

“We choose locally sourced ingredients when possible,” Chakra adds. “We source our lemon and ginger locally and source the strawberry purée from as many local fields as possible here in our Southern California region.”

Have you tried KeVita? If so, when do you like to drink it and what is your favorite flavor?

Their site claims KeVita is soy-free, but every single flavor states that they contain trace amounts of soy. What gives?

Sorry to say, but they definitely didn't "create a new kind of drink." Water kefir has been around for ages. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibicos

Why use stevia? Why not just leave the flavors and sweetness as they are. People can add stevia or more sweetners on their own if they want it. Please don't assume people want more sweetness. Vitamin water is doing well, is it not?

KeVita is indeed soy free! We did put the trace amount of soy warning on the KeVita label briefly, during a period where we were submitting all of the flavors for lab testing. When lab results proved KeVita to be soy free we then removed the statement from the label.

How can you claim the Living Green to be soy free when on the ingredients label it says (in fine print) contains trace amounts of soy!? Trace amounts do not equal soy free. That is misleading!!

We have since removed the trace amount of soy statement on the KeVita label when 3rd party lab test results showed that KeVita is indeed soy free. We only printed labels once with this warning. We were happy we could remove and did so on our next label print run. We didn't want to take a chance - if you'd like more information, please feel free to contact me directly at customerservice@KeVita.com All of the KeVita flavors are indeed soy free!

I love Kevita, especially the coconut flavor. I usually never drink anything besides water, but this is the exception. I had just started drinking kombucha, but I like Kevita better.

Been fermenting berries and all kinds of fruit overnight with your Mango flavor...adds great flavor, better than using kombucha or two kinds of whey I have.

I absolutely LOOOOVE Kevita's Living Greens flavor. Dare I say, I might be addicted to it. I was so happy to see that Whole Foods carries the brand and it was on sale recently. But, as of late, it doesn't seem to be restocked in any of the NYC and NJ stores where I've looked for it. What's up with that?

HI! Just tried the coconut drink today, AMAZING! I love that it is super low in sugar, calories, carbs and doesn't contain caffeine (I have a heart allergy to it). The taste was fantastic and I am hooked, bought 4, can't wait to drink another one. Is there any way to order online and have a case shipped to me? Whole foods is WAAYYYY out of my way:(

I like raw kombucha drink better than Kevita. I only like the coconut one from Kevita because I like the ingredient. I don't like the others ingredients.
