Kids World Party

By Dan Storper, July 9, 2011  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Dan Storper
Read on for a chance to win a 14-CD set from Putumayo’s Kids Playground series along with Kids World Party. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Kids World Party, a global medley of fun tunes from Trinidad to South Africa, launches the new Kids Party music series for Putumayo. Like the acclaimed Playground and Dreamland collections, Kids Party is sure to please adults too! With the release of World Playground in 1999, Putumayo Kids established its children’s music collections as passports to learning about the world’s cultures. Kids World Party marks a return to these global roots with 12 fun, danceable songs accompanied by a multilingual (English, Spanish, French, German), child-friendly booklet that explores how children worldwide celebrate special occasions. The CD comes enclosed in a new eco-friendly package without a plastic tray. Kids World Party also marks the start of a very special relationship with Amnesty International, in commemoration of the Noble Peace Prize-winning organization’s 50th anniversary, and continues a long Putumayo tradition of tying music and humanitarian work together in a seamless fashion. Fifty cents from the sale of each Kids World Party CD will go to Amnesty in support of their work to promote and protect human rights worldwide. A sampling of the artists featured on Kids World Party include famed Indian pop and Bollywood singer Lucky Ali, who contributes “Kitni Haseen Zindagi,” a song that celebrates life. South Africa’s Sharon Katz and The Peace Train, whom Nelson Mandela appointed as a Cultural Ambassador of the nation, has thrilled international audiences with the beats and harmonies of their music, and delights listeners with “Sanalwami.” The infectious “Afro-Cuban Funk” of Cuban-American band PALO! is heard on their song “Quimbombó” — the Spanish word for okra, a type of vegetable used to make stews in Louisiana, Cuba and Africa. Watch and hear a sample in this music video. Also featured on Kids World Party is bilingual (English-French) singer Will Stroet, an award-winning Canadian musician whose song “Le boogie à vélo” tells children that you can boogie even while riding a bike safely. U.S. musicians Tom Freund and Friends performs the participatory song “Freezedance” and fellow American Eric Bibb rounds out the collection with Jackie Wilson’s classic soul tune “Higher and Higher.” We think this CD is going to be the hit of your next kids’ party. In that light, what’s the best kids’ party you ever created or attended? Leave a comment below by July 26th for a chance to win a 14-CD collection from Putumayo Kids Playground series plus the newly released Kids World Party. That’s a lot of music! One comment will be selected randomly to win. Good luck!

Putumayo's music brings out the kid in all of us, bouncing to the beats, rockin' to the rhythm. Opening up the world to our kids through music is good as it gets in creating understanding and appreciation of our global neighbors. Keep it up!

I have heard some of the Putumayo CDs and the music is just great. The music teacher in my son's school has several of their CDs and the the kids love it. I was planning to get one of the CDs for ourselves for whenever we have a children's party. Thank you for the opportunity to win this wonderful collection!

We live in Texas so it is HOT in the summer when both of our kids have their birthdays. Usually we have to do something indoors due to the heat, but last year my son had his first sleepover for his birthday party. We made a couple hundred water balloons and let the boys go crazy. It was so simple, but they had a great time and stayed cool. They even helped me pick out all the bits of balloon out of the yard the next morning.

We had a mad scientist party where we made oceans in a bottle(with vegetable oil, water, food coloring, sand, shells and glitter); then we made Ooblek (corn starch and water) which goes from a liquid to a solid to a liquid right before your eyes; then we exploded Diet Cokes with Mentos, and we created a Backdrop Theatre where 2 big people turned into one tiny person! We made a video of the whole party and sent it to each of our 6-year-old guests...

I'm very excited by this opportunity. It sounds more multi-cultural and exciting than the music my grandkids listen to.

My favorite party was a Frida Kahlo themed party. The six year old girl helped prepare and get everything ready. She was really proud and it taught the girls some culture while still being very girly and fun. Kids these days need more culture, music, outdoor and less video games!!

Our best birthday party for boys (and some girls) was a model rocket party. When everyone arrived, they selected a model rocket to build. We had selected ones that were rather easy to start with. We helped those that needed help and invited a few older boys to help the others. We used hair dryers to help speed up the drying process. We then drove everyone to a nearby middle school that had a huge open field. Each guest got to launch his/her rocket. Much excitement and pride. We returned to our home for ice cream and cake.

The best parties are simple and filled with friends and family. DS loves to have cupcakes, juice (a true treat for him), and lots of friends to play with. Would love to win this, as these are some of our favorite cds to play all day long.

When my daughter was 3, we had a mermaid party...with real mermaids, at Florida's Weeki Wachee Springs park. We had a picnic, saw the show, went on the boat ride on the river. She was amazed. At the time, the attraction was under threat of falling to developers, but fortunately now it is a State Park...and it still has mermaids!

Music taps into emotions and feelings in a way the written word could never do on it's own. Music from different countries exposes children to different shades and blends of emotions and ways of experiencing and enjoying rhythms distinct from those already known and enjoyed in their own culture. I feel it enriches and broadens their horizons, and experiences in a unique and very important way.

My husband and I have a family owned party rental business, so this summer we decided we wanted to celebrate both our kids together with a huge Carnival and have all their friends over, we didi it at our local park with tons of healthy food and we brought the rock wall, bouncer, slides, obstacle courses, a juggler and a spin art station, it was so much fun!, I'm hoping my kids will remember how much fun they had for years and years to come. Thanks for the opportunity to win the CDs, I love the series!

In 2002, I went from being a happy-go-lucky girl into instant motherhood. Once the wheels of adoption through the county system get going, they can move forward pretty quick. Our family had been through a recent tragedy so our new toddler brought joy to my entire extended family. When I looked at my daughter's birthdate I realized it was just a week from my older sister's. So for her first birthday party in her new family, I packed our pags and flew off from Denver to the California Bay Area to celebrate with my sister. My other sister happens to live there too. Life long friends came from everywhere to welcome little Calise to our family. We made lots of food, danced, sang and celebrated with the people who mean the most. It was the best party ever, and a great way to welcome my new baby... who is now 10!

My husband is Korean, so for my daughter's first birthday we had a dol. It was so much fun learning about the traditions. As part of the celebration a number of different items were placed before our daughter (thread- for long life), (money- prosperity), etc. It struck me during the party that with all the hopes and unspoken "expectations" we have for our little girl we hope she continues to grow and chooses things that give her joy. Parenthood is such a gift we can't wait to celebrate many future birthdays.

I went to a party as a young child where we had to find our favor or prize by following a string all through the house to get to the end. It may not have been the best party in the world, but to me as a 3-yr-old, it was amazing and one of my earliest memories!
