Kids World Party

Read on for a chance to win a 14-CD set from Putumayo’s Kids Playground series along with Kids World Party. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Kids World Party, a global medley of fun tunes from Trinidad to South Africa, launches the new Kids Party music series for Putumayo. Like the acclaimed Playground and Dreamland collections, Kids Party is sure to please adults too! With the release of World Playground in 1999, Putumayo Kids established its children’s music collections as passports to learning about the world’s cultures. Kids World Party marks a return to these global roots with 12 fun, danceable songs accompanied by a multilingual (English, Spanish, French, German), child-friendly booklet that explores how children worldwide celebrate special occasions. The CD comes enclosed in a new eco-friendly package without a plastic tray. Kids World Party also marks the start of a very special relationship with Amnesty International, in commemoration of the Noble Peace Prize-winning organization’s 50th anniversary, and continues a long Putumayo tradition of tying music and humanitarian work together in a seamless fashion. Fifty cents from the sale of each Kids World Party CD will go to Amnesty in support of their work to promote and protect human rights worldwide. A sampling of the artists featured on Kids World Party include famed Indian pop and Bollywood singer Lucky Ali, who contributes “Kitni Haseen Zindagi,” a song that celebrates life. South Africa’s Sharon Katz and The Peace Train, whom Nelson Mandela appointed as a Cultural Ambassador of the nation, has thrilled international audiences with the beats and harmonies of their music, and delights listeners with “Sanalwami.” The infectious “Afro-Cuban Funk” of Cuban-American band PALO! is heard on their song “Quimbombó” — the Spanish word for okra, a type of vegetable used to make stews in Louisiana, Cuba and Africa. Watch and hear a sample in this music video. Also featured on Kids World Party is bilingual (English-French) singer Will Stroet, an award-winning Canadian musician whose song “Le boogie à vélo” tells children that you can boogie even while riding a bike safely. U.S. musicians Tom Freund and Friends performs the participatory song “Freezedance” and fellow American Eric Bibb rounds out the collection with Jackie Wilson’s classic soul tune “Higher and Higher.” We think this CD is going to be the hit of your next kids’ party. In that light, what’s the best kids’ party you ever created or attended? Leave a comment below by July 26th for a chance to win a 14-CD collection from Putumayo Kids Playground series plus the newly released Kids World Party. That’s a lot of music! One comment will be selected randomly to win. Good luck!

Best party was a bike parade party for 5 year old. All of his friends brought their bikes over and we decorated the bikes, had races, obstacle courses, and lots of prizes.

A simple gathering of a couple of my daughter's close friends was perfect for our two-year-old's birthday party. Nothing fancy or over-the-top, just some play-doh to smoosh and trikes to ride. They all had a great time. (And we actually had a Putumayo Kids cd playing as background music!)

What a great way to help kids be connected with other cultures! Jai Ho!

We've had many house parties for our kids birthdays. Playing old fashioned games is the best! They play drop the clothes pins in the jar, pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, and sometimes we get a pinata. Everyone goes home with a prize.

We just threw my daughter a princess party. We turned our entire garage into a castle. We used huge boxes to paint towers and put princess faces in the windows. We bought a ballroom backdrop to cover the walls, hung silver and blue tablecloth covers from the ceiling, and got huge cutouts of the princesses. The girls decorated crowns with jewels, ate royal sandwiches and my mom made an amazing castle cake, complete with a moat, flags and even a frog prince!

Have been checking out CDs for the group since a previous giveaway and we love the music. Would love to add the set to our personal collection. When my youngest turned 5 last year, I planned a party at the park - weather in Mesa was great for March - a host of 5 yr olds - good food - simply/frugal games -wear them out and let them go home to nap!! Fun for all. You can't miss with water balloons!!

We had a spy party for my son last year, complete with all types of spy music and training activities. The kids loved it!

Putumayo's music brings out the kid in all of us, bouncing to the beats, rockin' to the rhythm. Opening up the world to our kids through music is good as it gets in creating understanding and appreciation of our global neighbors. Keep it up!

I have heard some of the Putumayo CDs and the music is just great. The music teacher in my son's school has several of their CDs and the the kids love it. I was planning to get one of the CDs for ourselves for whenever we have a children's party. Thank you for the opportunity to win this wonderful collection!

We had a mad scientist party where we made oceans in a bottle(with vegetable oil, water, food coloring, sand, shells and glitter); then we made Ooblek (corn starch and water) which goes from a liquid to a solid to a liquid right before your eyes; then we exploded Diet Cokes with Mentos, and we created a Backdrop Theatre where 2 big people turned into one tiny person! We made a video of the whole party and sent it to each of our 6-year-old guests...

The best parties are simple and filled with friends and family. DS loves to have cupcakes, juice (a true treat for him), and lots of friends to play with. Would love to win this, as these are some of our favorite cds to play all day long.

Music taps into emotions and feelings in a way the written word could never do on it's own. Music from different countries exposes children to different shades and blends of emotions and ways of experiencing and enjoying rhythms distinct from those already known and enjoyed in their own culture. I feel it enriches and broadens their horizons, and experiences in a unique and very important way.

My husband and I have a family owned party rental business, so this summer we decided we wanted to celebrate both our kids together with a huge Carnival and have all their friends over, we didi it at our local park with tons of healthy food and we brought the rock wall, bouncer, slides, obstacle courses, a juggler and a spin art station, it was so much fun!, I'm hoping my kids will remember how much fun they had for years and years to come. Thanks for the opportunity to win the CDs, I love the series!

In 2002, I went from being a happy-go-lucky girl into instant motherhood. Once the wheels of adoption through the county system get going, they can move forward pretty quick. Our family had been through a recent tragedy so our new toddler brought joy to my entire extended family. When I looked at my daughter's birthdate I realized it was just a week from my older sister's. So for her first birthday party in her new family, I packed our pags and flew off from Denver to the California Bay Area to celebrate with my sister. My other sister happens to live there too. Life long friends came from everywhere to welcome little Calise to our family. We made lots of food, danced, sang and celebrated with the people who mean the most. It was the best party ever, and a great way to welcome my new baby... who is now 10!

Love, love, love Putumayo cds. My kids know so many of the songs from around the world because we're able to share them through the collections Putumayo has created! Can't wait to see the new release.

I went to a party as a young child where we had to find our favor or prize by following a string all through the house to get to the end. It may not have been the best party in the world, but to me as a 3-yr-old, it was amazing and one of my earliest memories!

we never had a lot of money to spend on parties, but our kids always had fun! some our faves were when the kids made puppets or masks to take home as their party favors! music was always playing!

Our son, age 7 has high-functioning autism. Music both lifts his spirits and soothes him. He appreciates rythym, enjoys reading lyrics, and doing silly dances of course! He just memorized the world map (every country on every continent!), so it follows that we could host an "AROUND the WORLD" race party. play Putomayo's new World Party CD, use little mini flags and theme decorations from various countries (it'd be like a kids UN), and offer snacks from each country on the CD at each station. Throw in a folk dance and save the Freezedance and Higher and Higher as the grand prize winnign finale! Prizes could include the CD, a world map puzzle or kids atlas, and treats from Whole Foods, of course! This would be a great gift! Music has the power to transform.

Frances Rivera says …

Best party ever, the kids took part in making everything, the pinata, cake, decorating, food choices and games. It was theirs to have and theirs to decide what they would do. Of course there were there were limits set. :)

My son loved the children's book Goodnight Moon. For his first birthday we had a simple party at home on that theme, complete with story reading, red balloons, a "cow jumping over the moon" cake, and stuffed mice hidden throughout the house for the children to find. It was such a sweet little party.

These are great CDs!!! As a music therapist, my kids have loved playing along with drums or dancing to a few of the ones I have.

The best party I have hosted was for my daughter's 4th birthday when I hired a local actor to come in costume (without anyone knowing it was going to happen). It was a Winnie the Pooh party and I had arranged for the special guest to hand out the party favors; little pouches filled with a toy and a book. We did theme related activities and the dessert was not a birthday cake but honey cakes with strawberries on top - just what every good bear would love! We played "Pin the tail on Eeyore" and then went outside to blow bubbles. Suddenly the children heard from around the corner..."teedely pum, teedely pum!". They were all really enthralled with Pooh and each of them got to sit on Pooh's lap for a photo - yet another treat for them. I was so glad I had asked the theater about hiring out the Wiinnie the Pooh from the production we saw - which was a special "pre birthday" treat for my daughter.

My kids love the Putumayo kids cds! They just dance, dance, and dance to the songs. Lots of laughter and joy has been shared with this music!!

The best kids parties were when my mom took us to a local park with a bag of sand toys, balls, and a frisbee and a big jug of pink lemonaid and a birthday cake or cupcakes. Virtually no set up or clean up. No fancy clothes and it was ok to get dirty.

tamara says …

This past winter, I created an elaborate indoor carnival for my son's 4th birthday. I recruited volunteers to help man games, popcorn cart, and a prize booth where the kids could exchange their tickets for goodies. It went off without a hitch thanks to so many who were willing to help!

Peggy says …

We love the Putumayo cds! The best kids party we have created is one birthday bash for all 3 of our kids with July bdays outside at our local swimming spot (Wright's Pond). Sandy beach, 2 playgrounds, bathrooms, changing rooms, outside shower, picnic tables etc. No cleaning of my house required! Add some salads, veg and dip, plus some sandwiches and the requisite bday cake and call it done!

Melissa says …

Love the New Orleans music. Sweet memories of home!
