Kids World Party

Read on for a chance to win a 14-CD set from Putumayo’s Kids Playground series along with Kids World Party. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Kids World Party, a global medley of fun tunes from Trinidad to South Africa, launches the new Kids Party music series for Putumayo. Like the acclaimed Playground and Dreamland collections, Kids Party is sure to please adults too! With the release of World Playground in 1999, Putumayo Kids established its children’s music collections as passports to learning about the world’s cultures. Kids World Party marks a return to these global roots with 12 fun, danceable songs accompanied by a multilingual (English, Spanish, French, German), child-friendly booklet that explores how children worldwide celebrate special occasions. The CD comes enclosed in a new eco-friendly package without a plastic tray. Kids World Party also marks the start of a very special relationship with Amnesty International, in commemoration of the Noble Peace Prize-winning organization’s 50th anniversary, and continues a long Putumayo tradition of tying music and humanitarian work together in a seamless fashion. Fifty cents from the sale of each Kids World Party CD will go to Amnesty in support of their work to promote and protect human rights worldwide. A sampling of the artists featured on Kids World Party include famed Indian pop and Bollywood singer Lucky Ali, who contributes “Kitni Haseen Zindagi,” a song that celebrates life. South Africa’s Sharon Katz and The Peace Train, whom Nelson Mandela appointed as a Cultural Ambassador of the nation, has thrilled international audiences with the beats and harmonies of their music, and delights listeners with “Sanalwami.” The infectious “Afro-Cuban Funk” of Cuban-American band PALO! is heard on their song “Quimbombó” — the Spanish word for okra, a type of vegetable used to make stews in Louisiana, Cuba and Africa. Watch and hear a sample in this music video. Also featured on Kids World Party is bilingual (English-French) singer Will Stroet, an award-winning Canadian musician whose song “Le boogie à vélo” tells children that you can boogie even while riding a bike safely. U.S. musicians Tom Freund and Friends performs the participatory song “Freezedance” and fellow American Eric Bibb rounds out the collection with Jackie Wilson’s classic soul tune “Higher and Higher.” We think this CD is going to be the hit of your next kids’ party. In that light, what’s the best kids’ party you ever created or attended? Leave a comment below by July 26th for a chance to win a 14-CD collection from Putumayo Kids Playground series plus the newly released Kids World Party. That’s a lot of music! One comment will be selected randomly to win. Good luck!

Exciting stuff! I don't have kids yet, but if I win these CDs I'll still dance around the living room holding a watermelon.

My kiddies love any musical beats that make you stomp your feet! Each day, my boys get a music and dance lesson both at home & at their pre-school! We would love to donate this to the our Treasure Harbor School! With budget and program cuts, its more important than ever to keep exposing & fostering a love for music and culture within or children while they're young.

One of the best children's parties my eight year old daughter attended was a winter overnight. Staying up to make cheese pizza English muffins and hot decaf tea with spicy chai seasoning was a late night snack winner. Putamayo lullabye CD's were perfect!

We had a cowboy party in the middle of winter. We would have themed it The Man From Snowy River, but very few of our friends had heard of the 80's classic, even though our then-3yearold was obsessed and would reenact it every chance he got.

The best kids party we have been to/thrown was actually my son's 4th birthday party. We had Eric Energy perform, and not only did he totally engage a room full of 3 and 4 year olds, he taught them a thing or two about science and the world around them. Now that's my kind of party, and something that I can feel good about.

The best kids' party I ever threw was a Princess Party to raise money for the Ellie Fund - a breast cancer non-profit that provides childcare, transportation, housekeeping, groceries and prepared/delivered meals free of charge for three months to hundreds of breast cancer patients and families across Massachusetts. Boston Sports Club donated the space, volunteers provided nailpainting (non toxic polish from Piggy Paints), facepainting and crafts, photobooth by Opensade studios, a beautiful signing princess, performance by Friends of Broadway, and healthy snacks generously provided by Whole Foods. It was a wonderful team effort. (And we raised $5,000 to directly benefit local families!)

Love the work you're doing - keep it up!

Putumayo music collections are a fantastic way of introducing kids to a variety of music; I truly haven't come across anything else that comes close. We put together a "construction" party for my then 4-year old - black table cloths were decorated with yellow tape with street divider signs and orange cones; obstacle course included running with a wheelbarrow full of (paper) bricks; and the birthday boy had to break through a (paper) brick wall with a construction wrecking ball to "rescue" his cake. It was a blast, and we still - 3 years later - get great comments about the party.

I'm 60+ and this sounds like a CD set I would like to enjoy! I guess some of us haven't grown up yet.

What amazes me is how quickly kids relate the other cultural sounds and groove to it without pause.

The best kid's party I attended was one where there where lots of adults and kids, with great food, good music, lots of outdoor activities, games and great conversation for the adults. No theme - just great people and well behaved children who still had fun.

Hello - thank you for this giveaway! I have five children, and I know we would enjoy this set! The best kids' party I have been to was an 'old fashioned fun' party that we held here at our house for a kids' birthday party - sack races, pinthetailonthedonkey, make homemade ice cream, three-legged race, limbo, hide and seek... it was great fun!

My 7-year-old daughter invited 10 of her friends to a Rock Gym for some adventurous fun climbing in an indoor climbing gym.

My grandchildren LOVE to sing and dance and are eager to learn new words in foreign languages. This CD set would be such a treasure for them to experience and enjoy for many years!!! I'd love to surprise them with music they will "learn" so much from! What a great project!

My friend threw a party for her son at a farm and a corn maze!

Christine Brownell says …

We've had many "theme" parties, from Star Wars to Harry Potter, but still one of my favorites was my son's first birthday. We had a few friends joining us with their young ones, all too little to do much of anything. So, we found a good stretch of wall, taped a big white paper to it, threw down some old sheets, stripped the kids down to their diapers and put out a bunch of finger paints and oh boy, it was lovely. They had a great time, and the parents enjoyed it just as much. At the end, they all had a finger paint hand print momento to take home.

Running, jumping, tumbling three year olds at a gym....super for that boundless toddler energy!

Growing up, every year I planned my own birthday parties, each with a theme. My favorite part was putting a tweak on "pin the tail on the donkey" to go along with the theme. So for smiley face theme, it was "pin the smiley on the smiley face" and for treasure troll theme it was "pin the treasure on the troll." And I still love planning parties!

It will sson be my grandson's fifth birthday. Although, I am ancient we love to dance and sing to jazz, Irish, flamenco and hip hop. This means maybe, just one track off many CDs. This leaves behind a carpet of CDs It would be great to have CDs with great music which we could play from beginning to end - and all 14 of them!

I work at an art school that creates fabulous kids camps relating to cultures around the world. This would make a great addition to our camps!

Jessica Lemann says …

We live in the south and both of my children have summer birthdays, so our parties always involve large inflatable water slides to keep the kids cool outside. Good background is a must for any party though, and we would love this CD set!

A local indoor soccer arena has kids parties. The kids run around having fun, burning off energy, and then get pizza, cake and ice cream in a function room. All the kids seem to have a great time!

Katie H. says …

Passing out crepe paper streamers and fabric remnants to the kids. Turning on the Brazilian Putumayo CD and letting the kids dance until they were tired! It was beautiful to watch.

Amy Fuller says …

I've thrown several parties for my daugther: 4th bday - "Horse theme" held at a park, every child adopted a racehorse name as they entered the picnic shelter (we got a Horse Xing sign) and made themselves "racing silks out of felt with stickers and fabric markers. We set up an obstacle course which was the steeplechase and then had a horse pinata and pasture cupcakes with green sprinkles and horses on top. 5th bday - archaeology party - the kids arrived and were greeted as visiting experts. Each was given goggles and paint brushes and instructed to join the "dig" in the sandbox. Dino eggs and My Little Pony paint-your-own figurines were buried in the sand. The kids got to keep what they found, plus the goggles and paint brushes for their own archaeology kit. Kids got to decorate their own cupcakes. We always get fruit platters and or fruit from Whole Foods to serve at the parties. For all her parties we ask folks to not bring gifts, but rather bring food that we donate to the local food bank. This year we collected 166 pounds!

This is happy, bright and uplifting music .... Never mind the little kids - this is great music for us big kids as well! Putumayo does it AGAIN! We don't have children ourselves, but recognize what a huge responsibility is it to raise children in this modern age so we host an annual Mother's Day event for all of our friends with small children on the Saturday before Mother's Day. Let's face it; Mother's Day is not long enough for all the work and sacrifice that Moms do. The kids spend the afternoon playing in a swimming pool full of toys and games, eat healthy snacks and the dads have the responsibility to watch over them. There is a blanket spread under the oak tree with piles of storybooks, coloring books and crafts for quiet time. Meanwhile, the mothers are pampered to bits and not allowed to lift a finger. Kids are fed their own menu late in the afternoon and then head to our family room to watch movies, play board games and wind down after a busy afternoon. Meanwhile, the parents are presented with a gourmet dinner feast. We cannot show such appreciation to our own mother's any longer, so bestow this gift on our mom-friends instead. Everyone goes home and has their own family Mother's Day celebration the following morning. Cheers to mothers everywhere.
