Kosher Offerings That Shine

By Elizabeth Leader Smith, November 28, 2011  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Elizabeth Leader Smith
Hanukkah begins in three weeks, but we've been working hard for quite some time to meet your holiday needs. Whether you’re looking for seasonal staples or the best organic and gourmet offerings, Whole Foods Market is a one-stop shop for kosher items this holiday season. Hanukkah observers around our offices used to complain about having to lower their standards to partake in traditional dishes. Not anymore! Our grocery buyers have worked hand in hand with our vendor partners to develop kosher products that also meet our strict quality standards, which require no artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, sweeteners or hydrogenated fats. From roasted chestnuts and latkes to matzo meal and Hanukkah gelt, we're proud to work with vendors who provide the highest quality, best-tasting kosher products on the market. Here’s just a sampling of what’s in store for you this year: Potato pancake, whole wheat matzo meal, latkes, natural cake, stuffing and soup mixes from Streit's. Since 1925, when Aron Streit opened his first matzo bakery, Streit’s has been a premiere purveyor of kosher foods. Gluten-free and vegetarian baking mixes from Simply Organic. Their assortment will help you meet the dietary needs of everyone at your holiday table. Organic soups and dishes from Fig Food. 100% plant-based, organic and yes, you guessed it, kosher too. Gefen Chestnuts. These whole chestnuts, roasted and peeled, are excellent for baked goods, stuffings, soups, sides and desserts — or eat them on their own! Elyon Kosher Marshmallows. Yes, you read that right. Kosher marshmallows! Yehuda Matzo Crackers. Pick Lightly Salted or Toasted Onion Gluten-Free Matzo Crackers. Can't decide? Choose both! Whole Trade® Hanukkah Gelt from Divine Chocolate. These responsibly-sourced premium milk chocolates are made with 100% Fair Trade cocoa from a cocoa growers’ cooperative in Ghana. As part of our Whole Trade Guarantee, the farmers receive a premium price on their cocoa beans, in addition to the profits they receive from their ownership of Divine. Organic Concord Grape Juice from Kedem. A family business for eight generations, Kedem is the leading brand of traditional kosher grape juice. 100% pure juice from Concord grapes with no sugar added. Plus, Kedem offers Gefilte Fish too. So Delicious Chocolate Mint Milk. Made from creamy coconut milk, this dairy-free alternative is exclusive to our stores. Select stores will also offer antibiotic-free kosher poultry options from Kosher Valley including fresh and frozen whole young turkeys and chickens, ground turkey and value pack options, which are all certified by the Orthodox Union and the K'hal Adath Jeshurun. And, of course, we have Hanukkah candles. (They're not food, we know, but a holiday essential that you can find at our stores too!) This is just a sampling of the tasty kosher foods we hope will light your way to a tasty holiday. Contact your local Whole Foods Market to find out about their selection, and spend more time with family and less time shopping around town for your holiday must-haves.

I love the kosher offerings that you do have but wished you sold Greenfield Noodles. They are the best kosher noodles and it stinks that I have to go to another grocery to get them. Please consider selling them!! Greenfield Noodle is out of Detroit, MI.

@Beth This is a great suggestion! The best way to get your suggestion pushed through is to recommend this to your store directly. Since each store does things a little differently, it's best to reach out to them with request/suggestions of this nature. @Patty Since each of our stores does things a little differently, the best way to get the most complete and accurate information regarding the availability of fresh kosher food at the Paramus store is to reach out to them directly. Recently purchased a bakery item (cranberry/orange loaf cake). Said Kosher on side but did not say Pareve or Dairy. This is an issue with people who keep kosher homes. It also does not list the rabbinic agency that certifies the product is kosher. Asked in store, bakery staff did not have an answer. Please advise.

I also live in Wellington and shop at your store near the mall at Wellington Green. I am always looking for 'healthy' Kosher products and appreciate your having a few of them scattered throughout the store. I wish my local store carried meat other than the occasional packages of chicken quarters. BTW Super Target which is a 5 minute drive down the road carries more Kosher meat & other items than your Wellington store. There is a market for it in this area. Whole Foods are you listening?

@Wendy Thank you for suggesting that Whole Foods Market stocks the Murray's Glatt Kosher Ready-cooked Chickens. Because much of the company’s product sourcing is done locally and regionally, I would encourage you to reach out to your local store directly with your request. This flexibility allows every one of our stores to best serve the needs and requests of local shoppers. @David We certainly understand your concern. Since these decisions are made on a Regional level, the best way to make these types of requests and changes is to contact your regional bake house or regional office. The link below will take you to the contact information for all our regions. Thank you for reaching out! http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/company/regional.php
