I love Latin music...it's always so uplifting and cheerful... real foot-tapping rhythms. Mariachi bands seem always to have such a good time.

Putumayo's "Women of Latin America" and Poncho Sanchez "ULTIMATE Latin Dance Party." Music for dancing on the shore of Big Shag lake in the upper peninsula of Michigan.... oh yeah! Add to that some Lake Superior whitefish tacos, some roasted vegetable and black bean quesadilla's, fresh salsa and endamame guacamole with homemade tortilla chips..... does it get any better than this? Oh, and can't forget those margarita's!

Having many latin friends and having a minor in Spanish, I've come to love latin music. Ottmar Liebert is one of my favorite flamenco spanish guitar musicians. Definitely will be playing a bit of merengue and salsa. A friend of mine is on tour with Paulina Rubio so we'll be listening to her as well just to add a little pop in there.

I'll be drinking homemade top-shelf margaritas, listening to old mariachi classics, on cd's like Linda Rondstadt's "Canciones de mis Padres," and grooving to Jose Feliciano to celebrate Mexican culture on Cinco de Mayo. (Of course, on every other day of the year, the evenings are about the same.)

In honor of the wonderful celebration of Cinco de Mayo, I will be playing traditional Mariachi music from the Mexican region of Jalisco. My friends will be joining the fiesta at my home to enjoy platters of organic nachos, burritos brimming with grain-fed beef and magaritas made with certified organic tequila! Besides a festive occasion to celebrate the proud history of Mexico, it will allow us to gather funds to help Mexican children who require medical care. Viva Mexico! Viva Cinco de Mayo!
