New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

By Dan Storper, February 26, 2011  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Dan Storper
THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS! CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHAEL DIPIETRO FROM NEW YORK CITY FOR WINNING THE 5-CD SET FROM PUTUMAYO'S "DREAMLAND" SERIES. Read on to enter to win a 5-CD set from Putumayo’s Dreamland series. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day. With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep. In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling). You’ll find Acoustic Dreamland in most Whole Foods Market stores now. Do you like to fall asleep listening to music? What are your favorite relaxing tunes? Leave a comment below by March 8th for a chance to win a 5 CD collection from our Dreamland series.

I keep making playlists with relaxing music I have in my iPod but about music, what I love the most is to discover new tunes. And I've always dreamt about having a Putumayo CD (God only knows why I never bought one...)

I would actually use this CD set for my preschool classroom. My kids are learning both english and spanish as well as a little french. We work hard at introducing different cultures into our classroom and helping our kids learn about diversity. Putamayo is a must on our playlist during naptime and I am SO EXCITED to finally have an actual "dreamland" cd released. Please enter our classroom into your drawing!

I've purchased Putamayo CDs in the past and they've helped me to discover different artists and styles of music. I often fall asleep to music. There's a few music podcast that I like. For relaxation, I love Jann Arden, Sarah McLachlan as well as Mary Chapin Carpenter and James Taylor, so I'm sure this is a great CD. Plus, I hope it will help my daughter to sleep :)

At least twice a week I have the pleasure of tucking in my two adorable grandchildren 3 and 5. They take turns in not quite being ready to close their eyes. I try singing and sometimes counting... but a CD of dream inducing tunes... what a great idea! I would love to follow story time with something from this beautiful collection. Please choose us!

I love Putamayo music! I am a yoga instructor and often have music from my putamayo CDs playing softly in the background of my class. Many of the students have asked where I get my music and frequently I say, "Putamayo CDs". Keep 'em coming!!

Sometimes we all need a little relaxing music to send us off to dreamland. My grandchildren would love this, I know. They have enjoyed dancing to a number of the Putamayo CDs and we all enjoy the songs of Italy.

I've heard part of these CDs before and loved them. We're trying to use music to help our 1 year old fall asleep and these would be perfect.

I have used a Putomayo Kids CD in my own classroom, and my students love the songs! Since teachers aren't known for our earning capacity, I have not had the money to buy these new CDs in years. =( Would love for my students to listen to new ones soon.

The Putumayo series is one of my all time favorite music collections. I originally discovered the EuroLounge CD in a shop that was playing the music when I was in Naples Florida! I loved the sound and purchased my first cd of the series about 10 years ago and have since added several of the series to my collection. Each of the cd's is wonderful, but EuroLounge is still my favorite!

This is a great way to introduce children to the different kinds of music/languages/cultures etc. My children all appreciate music very much and I would love to add to my collection! I think I will also gift one to their school as it would be something very nice to have in their Montessori world!
