New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS! CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHAEL DIPIETRO FROM NEW YORK CITY FOR WINNING THE 5-CD SET FROM PUTUMAYO'S "DREAMLAND" SERIES. Read on to enter to win a 5-CD set from Putumayo’s Dreamland series. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day. With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep. In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling). You’ll find Acoustic Dreamland in most Whole Foods Market stores now. Do you like to fall asleep listening to music? What are your favorite relaxing tunes? Leave a comment below by March 8th for a chance to win a 5 CD collection from our Dreamland series.

At least twice a week I have the pleasure of tucking in my two adorable grandchildren 3 and 5. They take turns in not quite being ready to close their eyes. I try singing and sometimes counting... but a CD of dream inducing tunes... what a great idea! I would love to follow story time with something from this beautiful collection. Please choose us!

I love Putamayo music! I am a yoga instructor and often have music from my putamayo CDs playing softly in the background of my class. Many of the students have asked where I get my music and frequently I say, "Putamayo CDs". Keep 'em coming!!

I have 3 little kids age between 2,5 and 7. Bed time is one of the most hectic time for me, as I get so anxious to finish my day with the kids. I really need a relaxing music for myself and of course, this will be perfect for my kids to fall asleep.

I love drifting off to the sound of the ocean with either of the three: celtic music, Inspirational Piano, or classical.

Astrid Gilberto and Cesaria Evora are great relaxing sounds.

It's great to expose young children to a variety of music. Using music at sleeptimes helps children relax, provides a bit of white noise and sets a lifetime association. James Taylor mellows me right out.

Putumayo is doing a great job producing these dreamland CDs for children and adults. "Yoga" is also a good one, if you're into the "Dreamland" series that is...

Nick says …

The "Dreamland" CDs really help me feel relaxed and I'm 18 years old.

"Acoustic Dreamland" sounds epic! I have various Putumayo CDs, but the yoga one is very peaceful to listen to. I do not have any of the dreamland CDs but they must sound beautiful. PUTUMAYO FOR EVER!!!!

Music is the best method for relaxing and unwinding. I listen to harp music when I am stressed and unable to sleep. My oldest Grandson (3 years) if not fond of naps or bedtime and this Dreamland Collection would allow him to relax and sleep without waking his younger brother (7 months old).

I've purchased several Putumayo CDs over the years and love them, especially the Dreamland series! My daughter likes them, too, and they're a great way to introduce children (and adults!) to the wonderful diversity of world music. Although I personally don't fall asleep to music, I like to relax and destress at the end of a long day by listening to music while I soak in the tub or sip a hot cup of tea. I'm also a licensed massage therapist and recommend Putumayo CDs to my clients and play some of them during sessions.

I've heard about these CD's that I'd like to have one now than I am going to have my first grandchild and play it when I have the chance to babysit.

I've been in search of an appropriate CD to play for my kids--one that is not "too babyish" for my 10 yr DD yet understandable by my 5 yr DS; perhaps with meditation or hypnotic positive suggestions reflective of how we live. I play a bit of Stephen Halpern and found "Magic in the Mirror" and like another person stated, don't know why I haven't purchased Putumayo--perhaps I was waiting for Dreamland!

Ashley says …

I don't, but I love putting it on for the little ones I care for when it's getting close to rest time. It helps them to slow down.

The only music I would like to fall asleep to is pleasing, nonstressful, natural music. I would enjoy any light string instruments or gentle piano.

My niece and nephew would absolutely love this! I try to play them as much acoustic stuff as possible and steer them away from the more popular mainstream stuff. I'm excited that this is available.

I absolutely love the other Putumayo Kids Dreamland CD I have -- it was the "get the baby back to sleep, *&^% it" music for child #2...and it worked! Looking forward to hearing this one.

Brenda Higgins says …

I would love to try this for myself, beautiful! :)

Karon Overholt says …

I have always loved the idea of listening to sweet music when going to bed. When my daughters were little I never let them listen to the radio at bedtime. I always felt they could hear it even after they fell asleep and I don't approve of the music content for young people. They did however listen to "old music" and ballads that I could find from second hand stores and thru the mail. I wish I could have found something like these CDs back then, that was 20 years ago ! But now I have grandchildren who also can enjoy them ! Thank You, great idea for raising a gentler generation of young and old alike!

Cheryl Carrier says …

I love to fall asleep listening to light classical music, acoustic guitar or even nature sounds like the rainforest, ocean waves, or the rain.

Kim Sandoval says …

My almost 3 year old son has been falling to sleep to Putumayo Dreamland since he was a baby. We also occasionally listen to acoustic spanish guitar music to fall asleep.

liatt says …

i dream of owning these beautiful cds.... thanks for the giveaway.....my son loves music and this could really help with naps and evening routines....

Amy says …

I could use these right now...My 3-month-old has been trying to fall asleep for two hours. I've sung all the lullabyes I know. These sound lovely!

Leo Lee says …

We have a Putumayo dreamland CD, which we love. Also, "Bedtime Beats" is great. Classical music that has just altered tempo to match the gentle breathing of sleep. My kids enjoy those. But myself, audio books do the trick.

Beth Burright says …

My favorite way to fall asleep is listening to the music of flowing water, crickets, and frogs. I miss these sounds from my childhood now that I live in suburbia!

Sally Heath says …

Wow! What a fantastic group of artists for a CD! I have never heard of Putumayo CDs before so am looking forward to finding and listening to them - especially this one. Sounds like a must to go along with my before-bedtime cup of tea!
