New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day.
With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep.
In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling).

The only music I would like to fall asleep to is pleasing, nonstressful, natural music. I would enjoy any light string instruments or gentle piano.

My niece and nephew would absolutely love this! I try to play them as much acoustic stuff as possible and steer them away from the more popular mainstream stuff. I'm excited that this is available.

For myself I have always loved Enya since I was a child. However for my children I love a CD called Peace baby.

"Acoustic Dreamland" would be a delight to have! I love acoustic music and the "Acoustic Dreamland" CD might even help me take my mind off of my problems in school. It certainly helped with Putumayo's "Yoga" CD.

I love Putumayo music and the Dreamland CDs look excellent. A great compilation for people of all ages to listen to and to help us all understand other cultures more.

I use lullabies from a Music Together class that I burned on a CD for my toddler. She listens to it nightly. We have several Putamayo Children'd Cd's that she enjoys also.This would be a great addition to our collection!

My 11-month old son falls asleep to music from his crib mobile every night, but I'd love to switch him to CD's for bedtime. Putumayo CDs sound great to try!

I absolutely love the other Putumayo Kids Dreamland CD I have -- it was the "get the baby back to sleep, *&^% it" music for child #2...and it worked! Looking forward to hearing this one.

I have always loved the idea of listening to sweet music when going to bed. When my daughters were little I never let them listen to the radio at bedtime. I always felt they could hear it even after they fell asleep and I don't approve of the music content for young people. They did however listen to "old music" and ballads that I could find from second hand stores and thru the mail.
I wish I could have found something like these CDs back then, that was 20 years ago ! But now I have grandchildren who also can enjoy them ! Thank You, great idea for raising a gentler generation of young and old alike!

I love to fall asleep listening to light classical music, acoustic guitar or even nature sounds like the rainforest, ocean waves, or the rain.

My almost 3 year old son has been falling to sleep to Putumayo Dreamland since he was a baby. We also occasionally listen to acoustic spanish guitar music to fall asleep.

I could use these right now...My 3-month-old has been trying to fall asleep for two hours. I've sung all the lullabyes I know. These sound lovely!

We have a Putumayo dreamland CD, which we love. Also, "Bedtime Beats" is great. Classical music that has just altered tempo to match the gentle breathing of sleep. My kids enjoy those. But myself, audio books do the trick.

My favorite way to fall asleep is listening to the music of flowing water, crickets, and frogs. I miss these sounds from my childhood now that I live in suburbia!

Wow! What a fantastic group of artists for a CD! I have never heard of Putumayo CDs before so am looking forward to finding and listening to them - especially this one.
Sounds like a must to go along with my before-bedtime cup of tea!
