New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS! CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHAEL DIPIETRO FROM NEW YORK CITY FOR WINNING THE 5-CD SET FROM PUTUMAYO'S "DREAMLAND" SERIES. Read on to enter to win a 5-CD set from Putumayo’s Dreamland series. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day. With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep. In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling). You’ll find Acoustic Dreamland in most Whole Foods Market stores now. Do you like to fall asleep listening to music? What are your favorite relaxing tunes? Leave a comment below by March 8th for a chance to win a 5 CD collection from our Dreamland series.

Both my children and I all love to fall asleep to music. We have many of the Putumayo dreamland CDs and try to change what we are listening to every few nights. They enjoy it immensely. Before we started listening to these cd's, bedtime was a task that they dreaded, now the actually look forward to it. Thank you. :)

Growing up, my bedroom window faced the pond in my family's "yard." Spring through fall, I fell asleep to the surprisingly loud music of spring peepers and bull frogs. Ever since, a cd of frog sounds has been my evening lullaby and the surest way to relax at tne end of the day.

Everynight I fall asleep to music. Sometime it is to the sounds of the ocean, music from Bali, romantic classical music, easy jazz, music from films. Listening to music has a definite effect on my mood and falling asleep to music often insures sweet dreams! I recommend it. Nighty, night!

I love to listen to chanting and native american music to put me into a relaxed/meditative state of mind. I would guess that this kind of music could have that same effect on the mind. Makes for very good dreams!

Putamayo CD's have been my 9-year-old son's favorite music since he was born! He has Autism Spectrum Disorder (similar to Asperger's Syndrome, but slightly different) and I'm so grateful to Putamayo for helping him figure out how to soothe himself with music. Sometimes he gets really overwhelmed by life and he has many CD's to choose from when he needs to escape into music, whether it's Asian, African, Latin, or any of the others. I don't think he has a favorite, he just knows which one goes with the mood that he's in.

We love so many of the Putumayo Kids CDs! This one sounds great, too. Right now my son falls asleep to a white noise machine but I feel good knowing he's got a variety of world music with interesting lyrics and beats for the nanny to play on our iPod when he's awake...

Music is my own personal favorite "therapy". I use it each night to relax and unwind right before I fall asleep. I'm hooked on buying and listening to all kinds of relaxing music. I have a collection of spa music, healing music, relaxing jazz, sounds of the rain forest, you name it. My other favorite? All kinds of music from France! C'est fantastique! Melanie

We have tried many things and because I have a child with a sleep disorder, I can honestly say that I can count the times I have slept through most of the night for the last 17 years on one hand! We love the joyful CD Sing Through the Day featuring songs from around the world about childhood, growing up on a farm and the joys of childhood. We love James Taylor, Brian Crain on piano, Bill Leslie, and the hauntingly beautiful Jia Pen Fang on Chinese strings along with a cup of Sleepytime Tea. Your Acoustic Dreamland might just be the final piece of the puzzle that helps us with the much-needed ZZZZzzzzzz's!!
