New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day.
With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep.
In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling).

My kids enjoy music and the Putamayo collections are a great way to introduce them to many different forms/styles of music. I enjoy listening to music before I go to sleep, usually something quiet and low-key. My girls especially love when I sing to them before bed.

This sounds abolutely charming. I would love to give them to my Grand Nieces to listen to. Their parents have surrounded them with all types of music since the day they were born. This would be a wonderful addition to their collection.

My kids like falling asleep to picnic playground and latin playground. I think Acoustic Dreamland would be a hit around here.

I do fall asleep a lot while listening to music. Just for that purpose: personally, I've only tried classical music and nature sounds while trying to fall asleep. But would be very interested in listening to this acoustic series!

I love world music. Putumayo puts out some really nice stuff. My sister is a kindergarten teacher and her birthday is March 15th...If I win it, I'll give it to her for a BD gift. Think of how many years of "littles" will hear the music at nap-time at school. Ahhh....Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I love these CDs so much...I have used some of them in my group exercise classes and my yoga students especially enjoy them..would love to add more to my collection,I am sure my students would hear them and want their own to purchase !!!namaste..

I LOVE falling asleep listening to music - Jazz, classical, world... I'm trying to encourage my children to appreciate world music, and they seem to really like most of it. I'm on a zydeco/ cajun kick right now.

I do like to listen to music to fall asleep. My children love classical and recently have started listening to Inkas Wasi to fall asleep. They are a great Peruvian group.
My youngest fights sleep with all of her might - I would love to win these CDs in hopes to give sleep a fighting chance!

I'm still trying to find the right combination to help my little guy wind down before bed. He's a wiggler, can't sit (or lie) still even when it's time for bed. Definitely willing to give this a try!

I love Putamayo CD's..I am a pianist and also composer of peaceful music. Music has an abstract quality which speaks to a worldwide audience in a wonderful way that nourishes the soul and brings peace to the mind.

I haven't listened to this one yet- but I love the other Putamayo cds that I have! Will definitely add this one to the collection; and probably buy some for gifts for my little nieces too!
