New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day.
With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep.
In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling).

This music isn't just for kids. I find it to be very relaxing and I am in my late thirties. Kind of brings you back to childhood memories.

I love Putumayo. My son has several of the Playground series - right now he's particularly into the Animal Playground, but also loves the French and Hawaiian ones. Must try the Dreamland series, too!

I have always loved the music Putumayo has collected. i think it's so important for everyone to learn about other countries & cultures.What better way than through music! We always have a cool Putumayo playing at parties and adults and kids always end up dancing. I would love to have the Dreamland CD for the grandkids. I think it would send them off to Dreamland like a lovely, dreamy ride down the Putumayo River.

I have a certain "sleep/nap" playlist on my ipod that I like to listen to and enjoy a cup of tea to calm me down before bed each night. :)
My baby niece was just born two days ago. I think she and her big brother would absolutely love these! I'm passionate about exposing my niece and nephew (and my future children) to other cultures and love these CDs for that!

I am from foreign country and as a new mom, it's always good to get some good references regarding my baby education. My husband and I appreciate music a lot and since early in pregnancy we started introducing different rithms and songs to our little one. I am gonna try it. For sure.

I ALWAYS listen to music while I fall asleep. My favorite favorite CD is one I bought years and years and years ago at Linens and Things called Pure Relaxation. I can't even tell you how many times I've listened to it. Both of my children also love to fall asleep to music. They used to listen to all the Rock-a-bye baby cds but right now they are enjoying the Glee Christmas Album (yes, in March!).

Everynight I play a lullaby CD put out by Pottery Barn Kids called, "In Search of Goodnight". It is a beautiful compilation of lullabies from around the word. My favorites are, "A La Puerta del Cielo" and "Thula Mtwana". When the music starts my 9 month old daughter is instantly ready for bed. My 3 year-old step-daughter loves it too!

I enjoy a cup of yogi, green tea, music and a hot bubble bath. And of course, I have a candle going. Somehow, this ritual takes away all the stresses of the day.

Billy Joel's 'Goodnight my Angel (Lullaby)' is one of my favorites to sing my son... then again, he really likes 'Rock-a-bye Baby' too. And I love 'Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep' - the Bing Crosby version...

This selection sounds like the ideal selection for introduction into my iPod spinning play list! After a rigorous workout it would be good to end the last 5 minutes with these tunes! I've already collected several Puntamayo CDs; can't miss.

I love listening to music. It's very relaxing. I'm currently pregnant and looking for a great CD to play to my child before and after birth. This CD would be perfect!
