New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day.
With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep.
In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling).

My baby and I love Putamayo CDs - particularly the African and Asian Dreamland cds. We also enjoy the Calm Children Collection for winding down to sleep.

We are devoted Putumayo fans - they are my kids go-to music in the car. My kids also listen to bedtime music - Enya, Raffi and various Celtic music are the favorites. The Acoustic Dreamland series would make a great addition to our collection!

I always enjoy sampling the Putumayo CDs, but have never bought one (they just aren't in the budget, I'm afraid). I would love to win these!

This is what I need for my DH. He often has trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep. He loves all types of music (plays bass) and would welcome new experiences and the calming effect music can provide.

I love the Putumayo series, I collect them, especially the playground series, dreamland,lounge series,and the women around the world & acoustic. I borrow from the library, and buy several new ones every year at the holidays, as gifts for my daughter, her friends, and nieces and nephews! I have discovered so many new artists and musical genres through Putumayo, I really appreciate the effort that goes into compiling them..Lullabys are so sweet for sending the lil ones off to dreamland, I look forward to this collection coming home to us!

Our little one is 6 months old and he loves to listen to all kinds of music, he even sings to it! We would love to add something different and new for him to listen to and nap time music would be great :)

Putumayo never fails in their quality, from the beautiful artistic backdrops of art to the soothing tunes themselves. It makes me believe that life can be this way, that there is hope in peace. Thank you for Acoustic Dreamland.

I am a big fan of Putumaya CD's. I actually enjoy listening to the Italian Cafe and Parisian Cafe CD's to relax and unwind. Alternatively, I have some Tibetan chant meditation tracks I listen to destress and sleep.

I love Putumayo CDs and so does my 11-month-old son, his favourites being Animal Playground and French Playground. Before each naptime, I like to create a nice relaxing atmosphere for him by playing either one of Putumayo Lounge CDs or some jazz music (Diana Krall, Hedvig Hanson etc), but I would definately like to check out Dreamlands as well, as I am sure my son would enjoy their music!

I've been in search of an appropriate CD to play for my kids--one that is not "too babyish" for my 10 yr DD yet understandable by my 5 yr DS; perhaps with meditation or hypnotic positive suggestions reflective of how we live. I play a bit of Stephen Halpern and found "Magic in the Mirror" and like another person stated, don't know why I haven't purchased Putumayo--perhaps I was waiting for Dreamland!

I love falling asleep to classical music. Unfortunately, the local classic radio station (which I'd fallen asleep to since I was a kid) went off the air, so I now listen to CDs from the library.
