Winnie -- OK, if you say so. But the live/dead? fish that the guy (Joe?) is holding surely looks more like a trout! Where are the (CATfish) WHISKERS?

Hi Joan - the whiskers are there. It's a little bit easier to see them in this picture: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/products/njafs/story-catfish.php

I've read that because of what they are fed, farm raised fish (particularly salmon) are higher in PCBs than wild-caught fish. How do you reconcile eating fish that are sustainable with eating fish that are potentially more contaminated?

Where can we buy Carolina classic cat fish? I live in Pullman Michigan. I do not eat cat fish becas of the myth, but my mother and husband live it.

What do you feed your fish? I noticed you didn't say.

@NELL - We did not mention that in our post because our vendors differ between our store locations. Check with your local store to see what the vendor feeds the catfish they sell.

I have been diagnosed celiac and must eat a gluten free (and soy free) diet. I have read that eating meat from animals that are fed grains containing wheat (gluten) will pass directly into my system . I was wondering what "farm-raised" catfish are fed. I tried it and like it a lot (baked) and hate to give it up but don't want to continue eating something that may be harmful later on. What is usually fed to "farm-raised" catfish ??? Thanks for any information !

@GORETTIA - Since our catfish vendors will vary between regions, I would suggest reaching out to the seafood department at your local store so they can find out from the vendor. You can read more in general about our aquaculture standards at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/mission-values/seafood-sustainability/aquaculture.

@LUANNA - If you're wanting to find out the feed for this specific vendor, I would suggest reaching out to them directly. You can find their contact info at http://cccatfish.com/contact-us/.
