Our Exceptional Turkeys

Have you started thinking about your turkey for Thanksgiving? We have! Of course, it’s our job to make sure we think about turkeys all year long so when it comes down to the quintessential turkey holiday, you know you can depend on us for the best. In addition to all of the great holiday recipes and tips on our website, you can learn about the local turkey farmers and ranchers, so you'll know a little bit about the people behind your holiday dinner.  No matter where they come from, all of our turkeys are raised with these standards:
  • No antibiotics — ever
  • No supplemental growth hormones*
  • No animal byproducts in feed
How does that compare to your average supermarket turkey? Take a look: Pretty compelling, don’t you think? And if you wanto carve every tender, juicy morsel out of your turkey dollar, just take a look at our Bird for Every Budget chart to find the one that's right for you. To ensure you get just what you want, make sure to place your turkey order early because size, type and availability vary by location. You can order your ready-to-cook- turkey, as well as prepared holiday dishes, online or at the Holiday Table in our stores. Did you get your turkey from us last year? Let us know how it was!

Your site looking so nice..........

@Damon We would be able to give you a general process for how the turkeys are brined at Whole Foods but since you need to know for allergy reasons, the best way to get the most accurate information regarding how your turkey will be brined is to reach out to you community's Whole Foods Market directly. This way a Team Member at your store can tell you EXACTLY how and the ingredients used in their specific process. There's so many tiny variations that can be made to a brining recipe that I wouldn't want to steer you wrong. The link below will help you identify your store's contact information. www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores

Yes, made the menu and are just waiting to place my order. When do you start selling the turkeys?

Damon says …

i know you offer "pre-brined" turkeys...can you please provide me with details on how you brine your turkeys? i need to know specific ingredients and how much (allergy worries).

Jill says …

Last Thanksgiving, I tried your brined turkey and it was the best tasting turkey I've ever had!!

Pamela Diehl says …

Do you carry kosher turkeys?

Elizabeth says …

I don't have time to cook turkey this Thanksgiving.. Can i order pre-cooked turkey, so i can warm it up on Thanksgiving day?

Megan says …

@ELIZABETH Yes, you can order a pre-cooked turkey from our Prepared Foods department! If you would like to place your order online, here's the link: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering

I am interested in purchasing a turkey who lived a species-specific life. Not only outside but was not confined--or if confined, had grass and room (not crammed). I live near small farms and see how some raise them--they are local and outside but really confined and stuffed in a small area. I am not interested in that kind of set up. Do you have any information like that on the history of your turkeys for Thanksgiving? Thanks

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@DEBBIE - Since we wrote this blog post, a lot has changed regarding our animal welfare standards. We have started the Global Animal Partnership which gives specific level ratings to the meat we sell based on the life the animal lived. You can read more at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/about-our-products/quality-standards/animal-welfare-standards.

What s the largest size customers can order for organic turkeys?

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@KAREN - Each store's holiday menu items will differ so you can check online at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering to find out the weight of the largest organic turkey at your local store.

SUNETRA REDDY says …

What is the smallest size Turkey that is pre-cooked at Whole Foods

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@SUNETRA - The easiest way to find this info would be to look on the online ordering website for your local store (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering). You should be able to look up the weight range for the cooked turkeys. If for any reason you are unable to find this info online, call the store directly and they will be happy to help!

lina says …

Do you have turkeys that come in a pan and I can just stick in the oven to bake?

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@LINA - Our products differ between locations. I have not seen this offered at my local stores but that doesn't mean the store does not offer this combo. Your store should have an option to buy a disposable pan separately.

Kitty Watson says …

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@KITTY - Our prices will vary between stores. You can check for general pricing for your local store at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering.

We bought a pre-cooked turkey but there are no instructions for how to heat it up (it's been in the fridge over night). How long do we heat it for and at what temperature? Thanks!

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@BOB - Sorry for the delay. We have a sheet sheet from our stores in the Mid-Atlantic area. If you still need the instructions, you can find something comparable to what you purchased at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/sites/default/files/media/Stores/S-Z/SYM/Thanks%20Cooking%20Instructions%20lr.pdf

Hello! Called the La Jolla store and was told I can pre-order my thanksgiving turkey on November 1st. I want to know if the turkey can be made gluten free, I asked the person that answered but we got cut of. Can you please let me know? Thanks,

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@DIANE - Since our exact turkey options differ, it's best to check with the La Jolla store directly to find out. Their online menu should launch as well on November 1st so you can always check their menu there at https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering. The number for La Jolla is 858.642.6700 to check with them.

jyotsna says …

My husband does not like turkey - Do you sell whole chicken also for thanksgiving? How much and when can I order if you do sell them. Are the chicken also no hormone, no antibiotics etc.

Julia says …

what is the latest time frame I can order my turkey? and if I am ordering a fresh turkey how many days before thanksgiving day should i schedule the pickup?

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@JYOTSNA - The meat we sell in our stores will not have any added hormones or antibiotics, regardless of the type. Your local store should definitely have chicken options as well but check with them directly since exact options can differ.

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@JULIA - Most stores will accept orders up until around the weekend before Thanksgiving but this will differ between stores. Check with your local store to find out when their deadline is. In regards to time, I would check with the store as well. They might offer frozen options that you could pick up early and keep it frozen or there are fresh options that I would suggest picking up a couple days before Thursday.

Steve says …

What is THE SMALLEST turkey you have?

Angélica - Community Moderator says …

@STEVE Each store will have different inventory so I would suggest calling your local store and speaking with someone from the Holiday Table. They will be able to tell you what they have available.

TA says …

I'm interested in ordering the pre-brined turkey but am trying to determine the best pick-up date. Do you know if the pre-brined turkeys are provided still in the brine bag, or have they been taken out and cleaned already? That will help me determine the best date to choose.

Pat says …

How much for a cooked turkey that would feed 8 people?

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@TA - Since this will be determined on what options the store has in stock, I would suggest calling your local store directly. You can see what options they have online at https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering but for direct questions I would contact them directly.

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@PAT - You can check online for the quantity/size per person and pricing for your local store at https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering.

Austin says …

You really should open a Whole Foods in Kenner. (a suburb of New Orleans like Metairie)

Helen smith says …

I just served the whole foods prepared turkey dinner for 8 to 12. Never again! The turkey was so disgusting. It was covered on some white slimy concoction that I did not know what to do with. This was a huge mistake and I feel very bad for serving it to my family. Not that much was eaten.

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@HELEN - I'm sorry to hear that. Definitely let the store know so they can look in to this for you.

Cindi says …

Interested in getting a pre-cooked Turkey for Christmas? Can this be done at the Whole Foods in Greensboro, NC? IF so - what do I need to do???

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@CINDI - Most stores should have their online ordering menus still up for next week. You can find the menu for the Greensboro store at https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering. You can also swing by the holiday table at the store to place your order in person as well.
