As a young kid growing up in the 1950s, I remember watching my parents and their friends dancing the mambo and cha cha cha. While these weren’t styles they’d grown up with, it was easy to see the joy the music brought them. By the time Desi Arnaz aka “Rickie Ricardo” of I Love Lucy fame arrived on TV, these styles had become global phenomena and were being danced in every corner of the world. Fast forward to today and they’ve made a powerful comeback on TV dance shows and in dance studios and night clubs from Austin to Aberdeen.
Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, Putumayo’s new release, Rumba, Mambo and Cha Cha Cha, demonstrates the universal and lasting appeal of this retro-flavored music. And, since it provided the mellower underpinnings of the salsa boom that occurred a couple of decades later, it has similar appeal that brought global acclaim to the Buena Vista Social Club artists. As an indication of the music’s global popularity, this collection not only features several groups from Cuba, but also Latin bands from Scotland, Belgium, France and Russia.
Rumba, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha is now available in many Whole Foods Market stores along with other Putumayo Latin and international CD collections.

I love love love latin music and international rhythms period. I teach Zumba! and I love bringing the hip swaying music to my classes. Cha Cha Cha, Salsa, Mambo...you name it we do it in Zumba and honestly I could not live without it in my life....I am also a music teacher and incorporate all types of music into my classes. This would be a great collection to have!

I would really like to win this cd set because of my interest to listen to the wonderful sounds of the mambo and cha cha cha. When listening to this type of music it really get my feet to move to dance the night away.

Okay, I admit it, even though I--eh-hem--doubt it's contained in the Putumayo collection...I'm a sucker for reggaeton! Can that even be considered a style of Latin music? Anyway, it's fun to listen to, great driving music, and terrific to salsa to when you need a solid, simple beat.

Without a doubt my favorite Latin music style is all of it. I have purchased Putumayo’s Women of Africa as well as many of the others. Latin music awakens the passion within. I will often use the earthier, slower selections of Latin Jazz for my yoga classes.

I love latin music! It reminds me of my travels in Central and South America and brings a smile to my face. I think I will have to say salsa is my favorite as I enjoy the dance and can get lost in the music and movement.

I love to dance cha-cha, but I'm learning Salsa and that's fast becoming a favorite. Even if you don't dance, the music just makes you feel GOOD!

Salsa and Bachata are my favorites, but any latin music puts me in a great mood. I've loved Putamayo's music, esp. Indian and Middle Eastern, and would love to sample their Latin music!

Years ago i learned how to cha cha but never learned the others. I love listening to Latin music and watching people dance to it. There is such life and passion to the beat that you cant help becoming happy and moving with it.

I just did the Rumba tonight at dance class and love Latin music and Cuban motion. There is a more relaxed connection and closeness in Latin dancing that I like that the music obviously fosters. This sort of music and dance is helping me with trust issues. I'm so thankful and thrilled to find joy this way! Oh and Yay Putumayo... I already own about 6 of their CD's...they are awesome!

In my house it starts with Santana and encompasses many of the Latin styles. My husband grew up in El Paso in the 70s and loves Latin music.

I love Mambo! It's so much fun to kick it up & dance away, regardless of whether you know the correct steps or not :) Enjoy tea with lemon or a few margaritas & it's a great night... regardless of whatever else is going on!!
