Stock Up on These Hanukkah Essentials

By Allison Burch, November 19, 2010  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Allison Burch
Hanukkah is right on the heels of Thanksgiving this year and we recommend stocking up early on the essentials, so you can focus on your celebration rather than shopping. Here are a few products you just might want to keep on hand. Like all of the products we carry in our stores, they meet our strict quality standards, which require no artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, sweeteners and hydrogenated fats. Streit’s Potato Pancake Mix, Matzo Ball and Soup Mixes These kosher mixes make it easy to achieve traditional latkes and perfect matzo balls with just the right taste and texture. Choose from Potato Pancake Mix, Matzo Ball Mix, Whole Wheat Matzo Ball Mix, and Matzo Ball and Soup Mix. Since 1925, when Aron Streit opened his first matzo bakery, Streit’s has been a premiere purveyor of kosher foods. Read more about our partnership with Streit’s in a blog post from last year. Pacific Natural Foods Organic Kosher Chicken Broth Pacific Natural Foods' new Organic Kosher Chicken Broth is sold only in Whole Foods Market stores. Pacific can trace all the ingredients in their products back to their origins through their “Certified to the Source” program. They have relationships with local farms, ensuring that the quality ingredients are harvested in their prime. In fact, some of their ingredients come from the founder’s very own farms. Imagine Organic Kosher Chicken Broth Imagine chooses the finest Free Range chicken and vegetables and lightly simmers them with herbs and seasoning to make a flavorful organic chicken broth with the same care you would use in your own kitchen. Kedem Concord Grape Juice Kedem is the leading brand of traditional kosher grape juice. Just 100% pure juice from Concord grapes, no sugar added. Divine Hanukkah Gelt Premium milk chocolate made with 100% Fair Trade cocoa from Kuapa Kokoo, a cocoa growers’ cooperative in Ghana. As part of our Whole Trade™ program, the farmers receive a premium price on their cocoa beans, as well as the profits they receive from their ownership of Divine. Learn more about their system and how it helps women and their community in this blog post from February. SunSpire Organic Baking Bars and Chocolate Chips These organic, Fair Trade Certified chocolate products are perfect for Hanukkah baking and sweet treats. SunSpire was founded in 1979 by Janet Jennings, a fourth generation chocolatier who used her family's old-fashioned chocolate making know-how to create all-natural chocolate products for baking, snacking and candy-making including these 65% Cacao Semisweet and 100% Cacao Unsweetened Baking Bars and 65% Cacao Bittersweet Baking Chips. What Hanukkah essentials are filling your pantry with this season?

Oh, I would be forever grateful if you guys could carry a matzah ball meal that is Gluten Free!!!!! I've found one on-line once, but never get around to ordering it and I don't know if it is any good, but I'll bet it is. Of course, if you wanted to publish a RECIPE for how to make your own matzoh meal, that would be welcome too!!!

I was going to say the same thing about the gluten free matzo. I found this online which says it is available at Whole Foods. http://www.glutenfreematzo.com/Gluten_Free_Matzo_Gluten_Free_Matzoh_Gluten_Free_Matzah/Gluten_Free_Matzo.html

Made a "brined" turkey for Thanksgiving and it was the best I have ever made! Moist and delicious. Your sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes were also great along with the green beans and cranberries. Thanks to a much easier Thanksgiving.

Thank you. I was at your Forest Lane store Yom Kipper and one of your employees made a horrible and rude statement about my religion. He did not mean it. In every other way a plus to your company, but it hurt because previously I always looked forward to seeing him. He simply was a product of his environment. I wish he could come to services with me and my husband. Another customer heard the remark and quickly marched. I wish this to go no further and appreciate the lovely Hanukkah attention. No response Please.

Does either Pacific or Imagine make a low sodium version of the kosher chicken broth? Thanks for your help and for carrying so many kosher products!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the two new Kosher boxed chicken broths. How easy you have made my life!! And thank you for the pareve (no dairy) chocolate so I can make my chocolate covered pretzel Jewish stars and serve it with my brisket for Haunkkah. And my niece is thankful for the gluten free pretzels you sell so I could make her her own batch of stars that are compatable with her allergies. Dip 6 prezel sticks in melted chocolate and arrange on waxed paper--3 in a triangle and three more on top of those in an upside down triangle to form a Jewish star. Sprinkle with colored sprinkles and put in the fridge to set up. Very festive and easy activity to do with little kids!!
