Win a Healthy Pantry Makeover

To celebrate the New Year, we’re giving away ten $99 gift cards to help stock healthier pantries in 2011. Why? Because eating healthy can be done on a budget, and we’re going to show ten winners how! Each of the ten winners will be chosen at random from the comments below. Each winner will receive a $99 gift card, a list of suggested products, and will be put in touch with one of our Healthy Eating Specialists.

Our Healthy Eating Specialists are well versed in our Health Starts Here program and can help guide a shopping trip, suggest recipes and give cooking tips, or simply answer your questions about making healthier choices when it comes to food. We’ll notify the winner by email during the first week of February to let them know how to get their gift card, and how to get in touch with a Healthy Eating Specialist at their local store. The $99 gift card will cover your shelf-stable basics for stocking a healthier pantry. You'll need to shop for some of them two or three times a month, depending on how many people you are cooking for. Then, once or twice a week, you’ll shop for perishables and specific recipe ingredients. So tell us, what healthy eating changes do you plan to make in 2011? Where do you find your motivation and inspiration?  We want to hear it all! Share a bit about your approach to healthy eating in the comments below by January 31st for a chance to win.

Lisa D, Yea, insurance won't cover it! So I'm wanting to go on the Dexcom CGMS. I'm on Symlin, but I don't see a difference :/

I am determined to find some more vegetarian entrees that my family will enjoy! I think if we just implement 2 or 3 per week, we'll be a much healthier crew here!

Gwendolyn says …

I want to continue with my gluten-free diet to control my celiac disease and I also want to eat more vegetarian meals.

Julianne says …

I have become more of a flexitarian. I am trying to increase more meat-free healthier foods in my family's diet. When we do have meals that are meat based, hormones and byproducts are not on the menu. Quality and holistic healthy living should be a lifestyle, not a luxury

I began shopping at Whole Foods upon moving to Colorado Springs. Just learing about healthier choices my cholesterol has dropped over 20 points since then~ I am also exercising almost daily. For 2011 I want to continue - having a Whole Foods stocked pantry would give me a great start for the year and keep me on the right path. My favorite Saturday past time - first the gym then across the street to Whole Foods..... :)

My goal is to get more fresh fruits and vegetables into my family. We eat a fresh salad for dinner almost every night. Eating just a salad for diner has helped me shed a few pounds. I still need to loose more.

I started eating vegan in September, so I'm trying to find things I can eat that are quick to prepare and fill me up. I'm also trying to find ways to make my favorite foods vegan.

Eating whole foods! Nothing processed or suffering from added sugar will be in my kitchen in 2011. There are so many delicious and decedent foods that come out of the ground and I plan to take advantage of them all!

I've really been inspired by Joel Fuhrman's Eat for Health books. The books even have my husband excited and trying lots of new recipes.

Hey Whole Foods! I LOVE Whole Foods, and love that you finally built one pretty close to me, in Schaumburg,IL! (:-) I hope that I will attract one of your gift cards, as I really could use it to stock up on your great fruits, veggies, juices, other delicious beverages, seafood, meats, etc.,etc.! When I shop there, I ALWAYS get a few of your delicious prepared foods, such as the Orzo/spinach/feta cheese salad, Cranberry tuna salad, Braised Kale(?),and much more. I have been cooking much more these days, to save $$ and eat healthier- I LOVE making very flavorful mixtures of food- frittatas & enchiladas with lots of spices, veggies, etc.,"mish-mosh" or "kitchen sink" soups & stews, with tons of healthy and delicious ingredients, especially garlic, onions, mushrooms, etc. Another healthy item I make are smoothies, with tons of fruits, juices, ginger, or milk, peanut or other nut butters, and protein or fiber powder! (:-D YUMMY! Thank you for many years of great shopping, and this contest!

I eat much healthier than most people I know. I've been Vegan for awhile but within the last year I've been passing on all artificial dyes and flavors. Along with not eating preservatives and eating GMO-free food. I just moved out with my boyfriend and we're finding ourselves with a lack of food, some tips would be greatly appreciated!

Drink more water!!!

2011 is year of the plant at my casa. As of yesterday I've switched to an entirely plant-based diet, as per Engine 2 and Eat to Live.

Kat says …

This year I'd like to bring our diet as close to the plant (the organism, not the factory) as possible. That means more fruits and veggies, sustainable meat in moderation, more legumes, and squeezing processed foods out.

I lost over 30 pounds by eating and buying healthy foods. one of the best things that helped me was to buy a bunch of healthy food and take them to work with me in my "Tool Box". i found that i wasnt hungry throughout the day and because i was not hungry, i made better and healthy eating decisions during lunch and dinner..... and lost over 30 pounds! I accomplished all this by setting small goals (5 pounds at a time), changing bad habits to good, and following other simple tips that i share on my website www.toolboxdiet.com. I made health a priority in my life and blended it into my normal daily schedule. I say blended because most people around me do not know that I am on a diet, because I am not on a diet but have started a life change thanks to healthy food and better habits. So easy and i do not miss the junk food at all. actually now that i have been eating healthy food, junk food does not look good to me anymore. Thanks to Whole Foods Market for being one of my favorite "Tools" Carlo

Love the way you are stocking humanely raised pork. You are right that it tastes better than factory raised pork but besides the taste, it's the right thing to do. Thankyou for giving us the opportunity to do the right thing.

I'm in college and lets just say that the dining halls don't have the healthiest/freshest food. This semester, I am attempting to have more fruit and overall healthy food in my dorm room so I don't have to eat all of the unappealing food in the various dining halls.

Kathy Watson says …

We eat little processed food and rarely go out or have fast food. It really helps that my husband loves to cook and can make anything. Oh and that Whole Foods is within walking distance really helps too!

Holly says …

Eating at home and limiting dairy products in meals to 2 times a week (excluding breakfast).

Lauren Green says …

I love WHOLE FOODS and I can browse the aisles for hours! Eating healthy can change your WHOLE WORLD starting from the inside out. As I am on the journey of changing my "healthy eating" paradigm, I look forward to igniting all those around me with the excitement and joy I feel when I know I am becoming a more healthy me. Whole Foods is where I go for inspiration and encouragement in the steps I am taking for a "healthy makeover"! Cheers!

We will be eating more greens & veggies this year. Planning on starting an edible garden from seeds to afford this. My kids inspire us to eat healthier as we ultimately set an example for them to follow. Also books like Omnivore's dilemma & Food Inc educate.

Alicia Goldman says …

What a wonderful way to start out this year. Healthy eating is part of my new overall get healty plan. Going to the fitness center 5-6 times a week and working hard at getting strong and healthy definitely encourage me to eat healthy as well so as not to waste all that effort.

My husband and I hope to start our family in 2011, and we're both even more conscious of establishing a healthier lifestyle with the new year. This is exactly what we need -- to spend some time with an expert who can not only guide us to rethink our shopping staples but also help us make positive changes we can carry forward with our children throughout our lives. Yay! Thanks for the chance to win!

I would love to be able to eat more organic foods and less processed foods.

I started shopping at Whole Foods about 3 months ago and I am hooked! I have lost 27 pounds so far and am on a roll. My pantry could definitely use some sprucing up for the New Year "Whole Foods style". Thanks for such a wonderful store and the best employees around! The Wheaton store is A+++ in my book (and my son loves to visit the fish in the dining area). Keep up the GREAT work!

Mel says …

We've stopped eating out, and eating prepared foods, and we're working on a diet that consists of few to zero processed carbohydrates, meat that was raised humanely, organic fruits and vegetables, and overall more natural ingredients. We've cut out juice, and most caffeinated beverages, and we are working on cooking more unusual, and more nutritious (and delicious!) foods at home.

Sharon says …

Drink more water with a touch of lemon or other citrus. The citrus seems to help with stiff joints. I'm also going to up my Chia seed intake

Lydia says …

In addition to the many benefits to my body, healthy eating feeds my soul . With every bite of food I take, I say to myself "this is good for me". As I choose nuitritious foods at Whole Fooods and cook them for my family, I have a very deep sense of fulfillment. Food is love after all.

Ann says …

We have discovered Whole Foods Market is not only good for us it is Fun to shop at. So, starting in 2011 we are having fun, eating healthy and losing weight. Oh, we can't overlook the wonderful wine department - yum!

The healthy eating change I will be making in 2011 is switching to complete plant based diet. I also plan on do more strength training and less cardio workouts AND making sure I fuel my body properly after my workouts.

Melissa says …

I'm hoping to eat a LOT more plants and cut out processed foods.

Ammanda says …

I sure need a pantry makeover!! My resolution this year was to try to eat more organic and locally grown food. I know this would sure benifit my family as well as my 2 year old son.

As a triathlete my diet is very important. I usually follow a very simple rule...whole food, nothing in a box or processed. Easy to do when shopping at Whole Foods....Thanks!

hannah williams says …

I would like to start incorporating a healthier way of eating with more "whole" foods and fruits and vegetables into me and husbands diet now as we plan on trying to start a family soon. Then we can hopefully ingrain that into our children's lives from the beginning.

Jeri says …

We follow many of the Environmental Working Group recommendations on organic buying for fruits and vegetables. Whole Foods offers the best variety of those foods to access.

Danika DH says …

I plan to practice cooking more so I'm able to make healthier, good tasting meals. I want to stop relying on packaged, preserved foods for a quick fix, and not be so stressed out with meal planning and my health. I'm also learning to use more coupons and specials and use more perishables like herbs regularly which I might start growing. Looking forward to the new year!

Shannon Marie Bennett says …

I really want to put my family's health first and not the almighty dollar. My husband and I have an infant daughter and am expecting baby #2. I have slowly making the changes in my family's eating habits that will hopefully take full swing in 2011 for us to eat all naturally & organically. I had no idea until recently what negative effect chemicals & food dyes have on children. I want to offer the best for my kids and think my husband and I deserve the same. Eating naturally as humans were intended should not be hard. We are ready & excited to get back to the basics!

Jennifer says …

This year I want to eat clean as much as possible. I am going to plan meals ahead of time more and try to eat out less. I want to eat more vegetables. I am trying to make positive changes in diet not only for myself but for my family also. I know how important clean eating is and would love any more information I could get on the subject. A well-stocked pantry would be a HUGE bonus.

Candace says …

This year is to continue to increase our fruit & vegetable intake by only having meat meals 2-3 x / week, vegetarian meals most days incorporating other sources of proteins, & having one meal night be a vegan night. Also trying new grain sources as well to decrease our wheat intake for more variety. It is interesting & fun to challenge ourselves to this with new recipes & with 2.5 year old too. Inspiration comes from my family where i grew up with whole food nutrition & wanting to give that to my family.

Karen Smith says …

We are both over 50 and started eating organic five years ago in order to clean out decades of toxins. We still have a lot to change over and are buying organic on every trip to the store. We plan to get rid of murcury-filled florescents and replace them with eco-friendly LED's. We plan to put in a garden and possibly raise chickens. We made two rain water barrels and plan to drink only purified water. We talk to everyone we meet to see if they know of any new information. I travel for work and seek out healthy food stores and diners. We walk when we are able to and want to get bikes to ride too. We are looking into solar panels and small wind turbines.

Lisa says …

I would like to figure out ways to make healthier eating easier eating (and still have my kids like it)! We are on the go all the time and my go-to meals are old fashioned and not very health conscious.

LaurenS says …

We want to age in a healthy way ... and stay fit and active. Eating and lifestyle choices will help us achieve that goal.

Jasmine says …

My plan for healthier eating in 2011 involves going back to the basics. I plan on eating a lot less meat, no processed or fried foods, 50% more raw foods, and definitely taking the time to eat more times a day. I have gotten accustomed to fast food and other foods that are fatty and high in sugar. As a consequence, I feel more sluggish and my immune response is not what it used to be. I will be adding high energy foods and foods that overall boost immunity and vitality (green and colorful veggies, produce with antioxidants)!

Debbie says …

Planning, reading labels, trying vegan/vegetarian once a week to start and not just pasta with marinara sauce...

Kathleen says …

My goal is to "eat from the farm and not the factory". I know whole foods could help me and my family to do that. Thanks Whole Foods!

Amy Collier says …

For the new year I am now eating a vegan diet... fresh and frozen veggies, whole grains, beans, almond milk, soy burgers, tofu... YUM! I feel great and I've lost 8 lbs in two weeks! I don't miss meat at all. Try it, you will love it! Thanks to Whole Foods, I can find lots of great new products to try each week!
