# My name is Mandie, I’m 24 years old and a Diabetic, plus a Vegetarian trying to become Vegan. Also, I’m going Gluten-Free/Casein-Free diet and sadly through depression, and insulin that I’ve had to take/had I’ve put on 185 pounds over my weight limit If I were to win one of these gift cards it would help me better control my Diabetes to where my blood sugars are stabilized, both my Endocrinologist and I would be happy to see a good A1C and superb blood sugars. An A1C provides a picture of average blood sugar control for the past 2 to 3 months. Also known as glycated hemoglobin or HbA1c. I’ve not had a good one in quite awhile no matter what I do. I’ve been a Diabetic for 11 years since I was 13 years old and it’s hard knowing what is proper amount of food to eat. Though I’m a type 1 Diabetic I struggle with weight issues and I know that Whole Foods is a way to help me better manage my health. Along with being a Diabetic I have food allergies, and so sometimes when I eat things with Gluten I get rather sick. I’m deathly allergic to Pine Nuts, and I have a small allergy to any type of nut. Where I live in Humble, Texas we do not have a Whole Foods grocery store, so there’s really not a grocery store where I can shop properly for my needs. My goals for 2011? Drop the weight, get my Diabetes in control, live a healthy and happy Vegetarian lifestyle. With your help I can succeed at this! When I reach my weight goal, you’ll be the first to have a picture with me, if you were to help me fulfill my goal of weighing 130 pounds, and having good blood sugars/A1C’s and allowing my Vegetarianism/Vegan activism continue. It would mean a lot to me if I were able to get one of these gift cards. It’s time to learn how to eat with an illness, with allergies, and into the healthier lifestyle. Sure, I’m on weight watchers, but this would be even more of a boost in confidence that I CAN do this program, that I CAN loose weight, and I CAN learn how to cook healthy/eat healthy/ and begin even more of a healthier lifestyle. Please help this come true to help me live my life with success.

I want to start eating more grains and beans and non-meat protein sources. I'm a lazy vegetarian and am just starting to learn about nutrition. I could use the help! I draw inspiration from this blog and other healthy living blogs. It is a very overwhelming task!

My son and I need to get healthy. We're both overweight. I have RA and he's autistic. Not the best pair. But my gym loving husband and active 3 y/o dd keep me motivated. Now, if it wasn't so HOT here in FL. Thank goodness for A/C. Working on eating more veggies (#1), more fruits (2) less sugar (3), and less meat (4)

I have always wanted to be a better, healthier cook and eater. I am just starting to learn more about nutrition. My only problem is that I know what I need to fix for meals, but I just don't know how to stock my kitchen. I literally spend hours looking at ingredients, but I get so anxious that I put them back on the shelf and leave. I think part of the reason is my VERY limited budget, I am so afraid to purchase something that is healthy because of the cost. My motivation to eat better is the idea of my body feeling better. I want to only put the best stuff in my body from know on and I am excited to feel the change!!! My inspiration comes from a few of my family members who have begun to eat organic and healthier foods. They way they talk about how they feel makes me want to feel that way too! Here's to the new me~~

with two children at home and being a single mother while husband is away in the military, I set a good ground for healthy eating at home. One of the things I manged to introduce is twise a week seafood dinner to gain the benefit of good salmon and other types of seafood. I also made the switch from coffee to green tea and started excercise plan twise a week. Living close to Whole Food market in Omaha made achieving my healthy eating goals more converient and I always find great new ideas there.

I have always read about healty eating and made attempts at it also, but always revert back to my old ways. My sister has cancer and I keep thinking she needs to be eating healthier to beat the disease, but then I think I need to eat healthier too before I develop any disease and 2011 is the year I plan to accomplish this!

My plan is to cook much healthier foods for my daughter, friends, and work colleagues. I believe that the best inspiration toward a healthier lifestyle for others is not only to model the behavior, but also to provide them with the impetus to start by physically showing them that healthy eating does not need to be boring.....less sugar, less salt, and less gluten. Conversely, more healthy plant protein, less dairy, more soy, and less fat! I would love to see their lifestyle changes increase the quality and span of their lives.

Substituting maple syrup for sugar when I make lemonade- It tastes great!!! I also now use maple syrup to sweeten other things and want to try to use it instead of sugar next time I make apple butter. Substituting canola oil for butter when baking cookies is another great idea! (except at Christmas time when I make "butter cookies" I kind of have to use butter as it is expected to carry on the tradition.

I had been eating quite well for a few years, but in 2010, a little bit of sugar had crept back into my diet along with some chips. In 2011, I want to get back to a diet that contains no refined sugars or other refined carbs. I'm even eliminating dry cereals and replacing them only with unprocessed whole grain muesli. When I want a salty snack like chips, I make popcorn (popped on the stove in olive oil) or eat a handful of salted nuts. I will also try to eat more raw nuts & seeds and fewer roasted salted nuts.

As a "farmer's daughter" I know the difference between what I grew up with and what is currently available for mass consumption. After considerable research my New Years resolution in 2005 was to become a vegetarian for health and ethical reasons. Eight months later I chose to become a raw vegan as an experiment for a month. Raw vegan is still primarily what I eat which is a strain on my food budget. Often I face choices about which items must be organic and which I can compromise on without compromising my health. Often I find items I really want to try however it simply stays on my food wish list. In 2011 I intend to move items from my wish list to my staples list! Being chosen as a winner of one of your gift cards would be a blessing to help make that happen. Slowly I see my children and grandchildren taking small steps to healthier eating. I try not to tell others what to eat, I can only tell them my lifestyle changes are the only reason I will be celebrating my seventieth birthday this year!

I am trying to phase out the junky snack foods and focus more on eating quality food in right sized portions. For snacks I am trying to eat fruits or small handfuls of crackers, pretzles, etc. Doing these things are not difficult and make for a healthier lifestyle! Thanks for the giveaway and information!

As a mother of 2 small children I am starting to realize that my kids health and well being depend on my ability to provide them with healthy food choices. The the past few years I have relied solely on cheap processed foods without concern over our health. I am only now beginning to realize why eating healthy is so important. In 2011, and I am going to eliminate processed foods from our diet and focus on whole foods that provide good nutrition. Food should be grown, not created in a warehouse. Winning one of these gift cards would help stock my pantry with healthy basics to cook from scratch with.
