before it was all fast food and a ton of soda.. barely getting one glass of water a day. now, i'm trying to eat more veggies/fruits.. and drinking lots more water (which is very very hard since it all tastes so blah to me). my motivation for changing now is because i am now nearing 30 and still look like the same chubby teenager i've always looked like. i feel ugly and since i suffer from pcos, i feel less like a real woman. i definitely don't want to follow the same footsteps as my mom and my grandmother, who both have diabetes and overweight issues. it seems every time i start to eat healthy, i start getting monthly visits again.. acne starts to fade... i feel less fatigue.. and i feel a lot better about the way i look. if i can keep it up, it'll have a huge impact on my self esteem and my future.

Mandie, have you talked to your endo about getting set up with an insulin pump and a CGM (continuous glucose monitor)? I am also T1D (since 1992: I am now 25) and have been pumping since 2004. My A1C's have seen a dramatic improvement, and my self-awareness (onset of highs and lows) has increased. Continuous testing (from the CGM), exercise and a healthy diet based in whole grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables has been key to my success, and may be the key to yours! (You may also want to discuss using Symlin as a way to help curb any post-meal bg spikes.) My goal is to try a new-to-me produce item each week. This week, it's blood oranges! Next week, perhaps some parsnips?

I'm going to try to make things from scratch. That way I'll be able to avoid a lot of the stuff that's put in processed food to keep it from spoiling.

My name is Mandie, I’m 24 years old and a Diabetic, plus a Vegetarian trying to become Vegan. Also, I’m going Gluten-Free/Casein-Free diet and sadly through depression, and insulin that I’ve had to take/had I’ve put on 185 pounds over my weight limit If I were to win one of these gift cards it would help me better control my Diabetes to where my blood sugars are stabilized, both my Endocrinologist and I would be happy to see a good A1C and superb blood sugars. An A1C provides a picture of average blood sugar control for the past 2 to 3 months. Also known as glycated hemoglobin or HbA1c. I’ve not had a good one in quite awhile no matter what I do. I’ve been a Diabetic for 11 years since I was 13 years old and it’s hard knowing what is proper amount of food to eat. Though I’m a type 1 Diabetic I struggle with weight issues and I know that Whole Foods is a way to help me better manage my health. Along with being a Diabetic I have food allergies, and so sometimes when I eat things with Gluten I get rather sick. I’m deathly allergic to Pine Nuts, and I have a small allergy to any type of nut. Where I live in Humble, Texas we do not have a Whole Foods grocery store, so there’s really not a grocery store where I can shop properly for my needs. My goals for 2011? Live a healthy and happy Vegetarian lifestyle. With your help I can succeed at this! When I reach my weight goal, you’ll be the first to have a picture with me, if you were to help me fulfill my goal of weighing 130 pounds, and having good blood sugars/A1C’s and allowing my Vegetarianism/Vegan activism continue. It would mean a lot to me if I were able to get one of these gift cards. It’s time to learn how to eat with an illness, with allergies, and into the healthier lifestyle.

I'm a vegetarian and need to find new ideas as I'm getting a bit bored with my usual dishes. I've cooked a little with quinoa but need some good recipes for this amazing grain. I love trying new natural food products and I want to remain healthy and energetic for 2011.

this "contest" was supposed to end on January 31 and the winner notified in the first week of February. I have been looking to see a note that you have awarded it (or, if really lucky, an email to me based on my comment posted during the contest time). But, I still see people commenting here, and no notice of a winner. What is going on?

I have cystic acne and it has taken over my life. Ive tried everything from pills, topicals and diets. The best result ive had probably has to be when I went on an extremely healthy diet for 2 weeks. It got a little better says some family members but I didnt see any major changes. I wish I wouldve stuck with it longer. That was about 8 months ago. Just last week, I completely CLEARED my pantry of anything that consisted of sugar, starch, fat, oil, etc. I went to Whole Foods and bought items that are gluten free, soy products, no sugar, organic produce, flax products, and spelt. It wasnt cheap =/ But worth the possibly of calming down my acne and overall feeling good about whats going in my body =)

I go for a jog/walk every day for about 3 miles and usually do an on demand workout once a day. But i dont really watch what i eat. what diet should i follow to help me lose weight and get a flat tummy? Any workouts i would do to get a tighter stomach and thighs? I want to lose at least 5 pounds pretty quick. Thanks!

I have never shopped here so indeed a gift card will help me start to. I came across this website during a google search. My son is 1 years old and is being put on a gfcf diet and I have no idea where to start. My family and I want to make some changes in our diets so that we can live healthier happier lives. I want to grow old with my husban (just marries july 24th 2011) and watch my son grow. I need all the energy I can get especially BC I'm a new stay at home mom and looking to make some real changes...
