I love fresh cherries but the dried ones are great in a salad with a bit of goat cheese. And the preserves and juice are fabulous too. I live in WI so we occasionally get up to Door County. Mmm mmm mmm!!!!

Cherries always remind me of summers with my Grandparents--to this day enjoying a bowl of cherries right off the stem make me have fond memories of listening to stories and spending time with the two best people I know. Today my grandpa is 93! I hope I win so I can make him a sweet cherry pie :)

When I was younger, my Mother and I would pick cherries by the pound! We loved to oooo and ahhhh over their beauty and their deliciously fresh tart taste. We would pit them for hours, then make delightfully tart cherry pies with a beautiful lattus top crust that my Mom taught me to make. She wanted me to take a picture of a bowl of the cherries so we could remember how gorgeous they were. What a colorful sweet memory this is!!! Thank you, Donna Perdue, Sand Springs, Ok

I tend to enjoy cherries with my mouth. Basically, I like them best when they are in there- in my mouth- and then I appreciate them in my stomach. I guess my favorite way to enjoy them is with my taste buds and secondly with the microvilli that carpet the interior of my stomach. So nice.

Cherry pie. Takes me back to when I was young and my mom would be found in the kitchen making her wonderful foods and pies. The lattace tops were always so beautiful with sugar sprinkled on the crust. Very few things can top the taste of cherries when we had cherry jam on pancakes and fresh cream. Takes me back to when the family was all home when I have cherries.

I love fresh cherries straight out of the container, especially when they're on sale! I also love them in homemade granola with almonds and in homemade cherry cookies. WOW!

When I was a girl growing up we had a big sour cherry tree in the back yard and the first year we lived there the birds got all the cherries before they were quite ripe and my Dad was so angry. All winter he sought a solution and when I went out back one April morning right after the tree finished blossoming I found it compeletly shrouded in cheese cloth. It worked. The cherries ripened and we went under the cloth and picked the ripe cherries. My grandmother made such great cherry pies from that tree. I just wish I had a picture. It looked sort of like a giant vanilla ice cream cone. I remember seeing some birds approach the tree and fly around it a couple of times then leave in frustration. Very funny.

Cherries make a wonderful sauce for certain meats and poultry. One of the most surprisingly delicious cherry sauces I made was with venison. My husband, who was turning up his nose at eating venison, just gobbled it up. We had no leftovers from that meal. It was such a great paring.

Each year I look forward to summer and the arrival of cherries...This is one pleasure that does not always have to be guilty. For breakfast cherries in some low fat Greek yogurt... Lunch cherry fruit bowl over low fat cottage cheese..... Snacks....nothing like chilled cherries or even frozen to cool things off.... Cool Salads with fresh cherries Dinner desert....Cherries Jubilee. or homemade cherry ice cream..... After dinner...Wine, cheese and Cherries to tempt your special someone..... Cherries and summer fun just go together...anyway you look at it! Enjoy! Sheila

I have always enjoyed dried cherries in my green salad. The sweetness counteracts the bitterness of the greens.
