Once upon a time, my BFF's family had cherry trees in their yard. We'd sit up in a tree, chatter and eat cherries for hours. Eating them fresh is still my favorite way.

My favorite memories are just sitting outside on the ground with a bowl full of fresh cherries and eating them all by themselves. Then we had contest of who could actually tie the stems in a knot. Simple fun. And clean in some regards unless of course you got them on your clothes!

I love cherries in every way. When I was a kid, I liked cherry flavored candies and cherries in canned fruit cocktail. As an adult and as a baking enthusiast, I've evolved to eating fresh and dried cherries, baking them in cookies, drinking cherry flavored juices and sodas. I also love simply topping my favorite vanilla ice cream with maraschino cherries. It's yummy in my tummy!

As an avid camper and floater on our local rivers, I enjoy my cherries fresh off the stem as a mid-day snack to give that bit of energy to canoe to the end of our float. Cold and refreshing, just the way nature made them!

Craving Cherries like a mad woman!! The best part of being pregnant in the summer is the abundance of fresh fruit but my biggest craving is Cherries.. ALL varieties ;) fresh & ice cold, jellied, sliced and on top of a simple warm pound cake, in a pie, cooked in a wine sauce topping a piece of grilled chicken! Can you tell I'm pregnant?!? ;) Life is Awesome!

I am all about homemade cherry ice cream. And just eating fresh cherries right out of fridge!

Donna says …

I still remember the White House Cherry ice cream from our local ice cream parlor and recreate my own version with vanilla ice cream, fresh cut cherries and chunks of dark chocolate. If I find some fresh cherries that did not quite ripen or are too ripe to eat fresh, then they are perfect to cook into a fruit sauce with water and sugar and other fruit (peaches and blackberries work great with cherries) and make a simple fruit crumble topped with a mixture of oats, brown sugar and butter.

Ashley says …

Honestly, my favorite way to eat them is straight from the fridge. And I also like them in pie.

In our family, we make yummy delicious cherry pie with a special 100 yr old crust recipe my husbands Mother gave me when we were first married. It is so flaky and light that it just melts in your mouth. We pit the cherries one by one, then add the sauce mix and gently lay in the pie plate with cherries on it. Got to have supplies that go together so when you get to the bottom of the pie plate, you can see what you just ate isn't really all gone at all. Only thing, you can't eat the picture. Then you plop it in the oven, let it bake, spreading the lovely smell all over your kitchen and out the door. When the crust is a beautiful golden brown, we take it out of the oven and let it cool for just a bit, because we can't stand to wait any longer. We gently lift out a generous slice of pie onto our plate, then add some Breyers homemake vanilla ice cream, or some of our own homemade, go out on the deck and sit in our rocker and enjoy the bestest dessert in town!!!
