My grandparents had cherry trees. I grew up loving anything cherry...pie, jam, or just eating a bowl full right off the tree. Not much has changed, cherry pie is still my favorite!

My favorite way to eat cherries is straight off the tree while still warm from the sun. I like to macerate them with a little organic sugar and pour lemonade, gingerale, cola over them. Yummy!!

Cherries are a sure sign that summer has arrived! I love eating bing cherries right off the stem. I also love a good cherry pie. Since I don't eat processed sugar anymore, a honey cherry pie is a great way to still enjoy the sweetness of a good cherry pie.

When I was young we would drive four hours from Kalamazoo,MI all the way up to the top of the lower peninsula to visit relatives in Traverse City, and we would always stop by fruit stands to buy delicious yellow cherries for a snack along the way. In fact, I think that is probably why my Dad wanted to make the trip!

I pop them in my dehydrator to use in recipes like salads, quick breads, and candy barks throughout the year. Okay - so they don't all make it in the dehydrator . . . frequent sampling is "cooks' priveledge"!

When I was a child my cousin Lance and I used to eat sour cherries right off the tree in his grandparents yard until we had stomach aches. I still love cherries any way I can get them. My favorite is Black Forest Cake. When done the traditional German way it is not only topped with cherries, but is also contains Kirschwasser--a clear liquor distilled from tart cherries. So you see I never gave my sour cherries up!

I enjoy eating cherries one at a time and savoring their delectable flavor, or with some dark chocolate. Cherry frozen yogurt is so yummy too. Dried cherries on whitefish is excellent. The list can go on and on, but I have to stop now before I make myself too hungry thinking about them.
