Win Satsumas for Sharing

By Jennifer Cheng, December 5, 2011  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Jennifer Cheng
We love sharing the flavor of satsumas! In some cultures, it’s traditional to give citrus to friends and relatives for good wishes and we couldn’t agree more — satsumas make a perfect gift for the holiday season. Bring a bright spot of citrusy sunshine to your holiday season with a box of satsumas and gift one to a friend — on us! Leave a comment below by December 13th telling us who you would share satsumas with and why. We’ll pick 10 winners at random to receive a 13-pound box of satsumas along with another box for the giftee of their choice. A variety of mandarin orange and a cousin to the clementine, satsumas are super sweet, juicy, seedless and easy to peel. They’re only available for a short time (from October to December) so you’ve got to enjoy their sweetness while you can. You can use them in recipes, keep them on hand for easy snacks and as edible table décor…what’s not to love? Find more ways to enjoy satsumas here. So go on, share some sweetness — give someone (and yourself!) the gift of satsumas this season. Leave a comment by December 13th to tell us who would you like to share satsumas with and why for a chance to win! Remember to keep your eye out for an email message on December 14th — you’ll need to respond by Dec 15th in order for us to collect addresses and ship the satsumas for the holidays. We can send the gift box of satsumas to the winner for hand delivery to their giftee or we can ship to another US address. Enjoy! The fine print: No purchase necessary. Promotion ends December 13, 2011. Must be a legal resident of the US, age 18 or older to participate. (Sorry, no shipping on these satsumas to Canada.) Taxes on prize, if applicable, are the responsibility of the winner. Employees of Whole Foods Market, Inc., are not eligible. Void where prohibited.

Well, even though it's too late to win the satsumas, I've already won in having the memory of sharing them with my big brother, Jay and his daughter/my niece, Katie. Love them both so very much and I'm grateful for every memory we have together!

I love all the wonderful fruit I find at Whole Foods. I love those boxes of Moroccan and Spanish clementines when their season greets me at the door, and I know these satsumas would be a new favorite. I'd share these with friends and family, and a box would be the perfect holiday gift for friends in the colder states (I know a particular family for whom citrus in particular is hard to get. A surprise box of satsumas would be a perfect, welcome gift).

Wow, a gift of satsumas?? I'd make satsuma marmalade, satsuma curd and mini satsuma cream pie, and gift friends and neighbors with a personalized gift from my kitchen. I'd send that second box as a housewarming gift to a dear friend who just moved into a new place in New Jersey. Satsumas would be the perfect gift all around--specially in this winter season!

@Patty Satsumas are a different citrus than a tangerine. Satsumas are considered sweeter than tangerines but are just as easy to peel if not easier. Thanks for your question.

I would like to share a few satsumas with our 2 year old neighbor and her 11 year old sister, who think these are the greatest thing to come off a tree! We introduced these to them last year, and they ask about them all year until they are available again! It is fun to hear them ask about them in front of other family who don't even know what they are!The eldest is already wondering when the "Sumo" Brand will be available again! The "Sumos" were the best citrus my wife and I have ever eaten!...
