Win a Trip to Costa Rica!

By Rebecca Joerres, September 15, 2011  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Rebecca Joerres
Do you like tropical adventures, delicious bananas, sustainable agriculture, long walks on the beach, Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain? Then this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss! We’re teaming up with EARTH University to give you a chance to win a trip to Costa Rica to visit EARTH University in Guácimo, Limón. Five winners will embark on a seven-day Costa Rican adventure where they will:
  • Experience, first-hand, how EARTH University is preparing young students to become tomorrow’s leaders in sustainable agriculture, responsible business and community development.
  • Visit with the farmers who produce the rich and creamy EARTH University bananas and learn how their innovative growing methods are helping to save our planet’s precious resources.
  • Explore vibrant Costa Rica, relax on the majestic beaches of Puerto Viejo, sample local cuisine and cruise along the island’s southern coast in search of dolphins.
EARTH University is a nonprofit, international university dedicated to the sustainable development of the tropics through education, research and outreach. Whole Foods Market started selling fresh EARTH University bananas in 2007, then added their fresh pineapples, and was excited to begin offering the new frozen EARTH University Pineapple and EARTH University Banana Chunks in early 2011. The sales of these fresh and frozen fruits help fund scholarships, and finance research and investment in organic and sustainable agriculture. All of Whole Foods Market’s EARTH University offerings are part of our Whole Trade® Guarantee, which ensures fair prices are paid for products, better wages and working conditions for growers and sound environmental practices. Visit the contest page on our website for more details and be sure to enter on that contest page (not in the blog comments) by September 30th, 2011. No purchase necessary!

It would be an exciting opportunity to work along side of those already demonstrating their growing techniques. Learning how the process began and what expectations they have for the future. Being able to practice my Spanish in that environment would be outstanding.

this is so exciting, I'm the Queen of "green earth" and have helped many neighbors do the same. We buy organic products to encourage those farmers to continue in far away lands. Thank God for this amazing opportunity to visit you all. Thanks so much.

How exciting! I'd love to have the opportunity to pull up my sleeves and help out--while learning how to grow things sustainably. Someday I plant to have a back yard and grow my own produce.

As a teacher I think this would be a wonderful and fascinating opportunity to enrich my classroom by learning about organic farm life from another country. I have always wanted to travel and visit this beautiful exotic land. Whole Foods in Austin, Texas has always been one of my favorite natural stores to shop at and visit.

I would love an opportunity to be immersed in this environment and learn more. I already believe in conscious eating, organic growing and would love to learn more about sustainable gardening... would be valuable to bring home, share and pass on to community and young minds.

Visited that area about 17 years ago. What a neat place. Friendly people, excellent shool, and great locally grown food. Would be neat to visit again to see how the area has developed. Spent three days doing studies about native plants and animals at EARTH.

Having a small pea-patch, I know the importance of nurturing your body with fruit and vegetables you've grown from the soil. It soothes the soul when you tend your garden and it would be a gift to see young students preparing the soil for their community. I wish we had a community garden at my small medical clinic but I know there are some pea-patch plots in our neighborhood that are tended.
