I am going to purchase eco light switches and use compact fluorescent lights in my remodeling project to cut down on energy consumption. I would also like to get a rain barrel.

I will work to educate myself and my clients about all companies that use GMO foods and avoid them in my home. I will continue to teach new families and my own kids how to make easy and affordable decisions to live chemical free and healthier for our nests and families. I will continue to teach my kids how to be stewards of the earth.

I'm determined to find a more earth-friendly method for dealing with pet waste. The city recommends bagging it and putting it in the trash; I hate putting it into a landfill.

I have opted out of birthday cards for myself. I'd told everyone I'd much rather receive an e-card since I get all of my mail and bills online as it is. I don't know know how many cards I've thrown away over the years and when you also consider the ink and the transportation to mail it, the carbon footprint must be huge. I'm also trying to convince others to do the same and let them know I'd rather spend the extra $4-5 on a meaningful gift for them! When I do give a gift I try to use recycled bags/paper as gift wrap and stamps instead of disposable 'to/from' tags!

i vow to no longer use paper towels. yes, the paper towel stand will now need a new use, but in all actuality, there's no need for them, (in my house at least). see, i recently had a baby and realized how many needless paper towels i have been using to clean up after his mess's... but no more. the solution? face towels. yes, they sure do the trick (even better to clean, in my opinion) and they just need a quick rinse to reuse. yes, they can hold bacteria and germs, but a quick jolt in the microwave can kill most of them, OR just toss into the hamper and get a new one. So that's my vow... NO MORE PAPER TOWELS!

We will continue to recycle and use paper bags over and over again. Also, we look for products which are less harmful to the environment and which do not use trees in their production (i.e. drawing pencils made without wood, recycled drawing paper, writing paper). We will buy household products which are made from natural ingredients which do not pollute our oceans, lakes, and rivers.

I am going to use a drilled bucket to create an earthworm composter - delicious food scraps will be their food and they will create wonderful compost for my small organic garden. I might name each of them after famous ecologists and conservationists!

This year I am planning on purchasing fresh foods and the least amount of packaging as a two-fold reason. Obviously for health reasons, and to reduce my imprint. I also want to support the slow food movement and local farming community. To me, this is easy and a no brainer!

We will continue to compost our kitchen waste. we are having our garbage disposal removed since we have not used in over a year. We grow what we can in our gardens organically using our compost. We recycle all our trash, and take our #5 plastics to Whole Foods. And we have purchased a floor steamer & hand held steamer to avoid using harmful chemicals around the house, keeping it more healthy for us and our cats.

Whenever I leave a room, I always turn off any lights or appliances including removing cell phone cords from outlets. On a walk, if I see litter, I pick it up & throw it out.
