The Internet is teeming with articles about the beauty benefits of coconut oil. Since I’m already a fan of coconut oil in the kitchen — and I just happen to have a jar in the pantry — I decided to put some of the most common tips to the test.

1. Hand moisturizer. I figured this one out by accident because I always use a spoonful of coconut oil to season my cast-iron skillet. Instead of reaching for a towel to wipe my hands when I’m done, I just rub the excess coconut oil into my hands and cuticles. It absorbs quickly and helps protect my skin as I’m washing produce or dishes.
