Winner Winner Chicken Dinners

By Megan Myers, February 18, 2014  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Megan Myers

I still remember the day when, as a kindergartener, I walked home from school by myself for the first time. It was a big deal, and to mark the occasion, I got to choose what we had for dinner that night. My choice? Roast chicken. Maybe not typical for a five-year-old, but I knew I loved chicken then and that love remains.

We buy a whole chicken at least twice a month in our house. The aroma of a roasted chicken warming the house on a Sunday afternoon makes everything more comforting. Plus there’s so many different ways to prepare a chicken that it’s hard to get bored with it.

Are you stuck on ideas for what to do with a whole chicken? I’ve collected some of my favorite recipes for you!

It always makes me sad when there are these ONE DAY sales (and on a week day yet). I drive faithfully to Whole Foods to shop which is a 45 mile trip ONE way because it's the only place I will 'nutrition' shop any more. I work full time during the week and by the time I get home (around 5:30 pm) which is a 20 miles drive from work, I surely don't feel like driving another 90 mile round trip to take advantage of these one day sales. Couldn't you at least do them on a weekend? Or better yet - open a store in the Kenosha/Racine area of Wisconsin. You would have people hopping the Illinois border to Wisconsin like crazy! No sales tax on food in Wisconsin! Check out that nasty Woodman's parking lot in Kenosha- it's PACKED with Illinois people. Imagine what would happen with a Whole Foods in that same area!!!

Certainly an awesome special, as my family was initially unsure whether WFM even sold whole chickens up until about a week ago. So hearing of this deal was an added sweetener! Definitely have to try one of those recipes :D

Organic by itself does not mean it was raised in a healthy environment. I want a chicken pasture raised that roams the fields eating bugs and grass and not in a hen house. Yet I can find no information that these chickens are pasture raised and the fact that it is not written on the package makes me believe it is not. You really need to provide more information about the farm and exactly how these chickens are being raised.
